@Rich O'Brien Wilt had 2 rings, one with the Sixers and one with the Lakers. No question Russell had more rings (11)...he was consistently on better teams. But speaking of the rivalry, it was real. Wilt and Russell played in a total of 142 games against each other. In those games, Wilt averaged 28.7 points and 28.7 rebounds while Russell averaged 14.5 points and 23.7 rebounds. Russell won 85 games to Chamberlain's 57. It's safe to say it was a great rivalry!

Biggest advantage that Magic had over Bird (which I believe helped him out-win Bird head to head), was that there was already a hall-of famer / all-time leading scorer within the Lakers when he got there (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar). So essentially you had 2 of the all-time greatest against 1. The fact that Bird kept it close is amazing. Given all that, I would not guess as to who was the greater player. I would say based on the facts on the ground, that before his back got injured, I would pick Bird, and after he got injured Bird was no longer the same, and Magic was more effective. What a blessing that these two would come up in the same year!!!

While the Magic-Bird rivalry revolutionized the NBA, to me, the greatest player rivalry was Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain, especially since they played the same position. Although they were both outstanding players and hall of famers, when they played against each other, they had to be even better.

Duncan first 8 9 years as a power forward cemented his goat pf status is = as bird career, the 12 years left is a top 10 C wich is another story.

I saw him play at Indiana State and with the Celtics, and he was indeed on a different level. But when you get three former greats like Kareem, Scott and Pierce carrying on like they are, it's just amazing.... And oh yea, I saw "The Big O", McGinnis and lots of other great players from Indiana but Larry was just "different".

Only way UNC would have lost that night was if they'd had to face Magic's Spartan squad! Because once Michigan St had beaten UConn in the '09 semis, they had absolutely no chance in the final
