Just got word that Melanie passed away. My sister Gloria used to play this song over and over back in the 70's. Gloria passed away last year from cancer at 67. Rest in peace Gloria... rest in peace Melanie.
She is a very big one. In 1969 she was on stage in Woodstock with her guitar. Clean and drug free between all other drug addicts. She sang with the great artists. The world knows her by her first name. She is still alive and is happy about her life. Her voice always sounded so smoky. Her face is original, nothing operated on by beauty, no lips splashed on. Ok a few notes here a little off. Let her celebrate New Year with a glass of sparkling wine and sing afterwards. She can do that. Treat Melanie with total respect.
People need to be kind and also LEARN. This song, in its day, was *not* about roller skates, and it was a jug-band, funky composition that brought a lot of joy to people EXHAUSTED by the upheavals of the 1960s. Yeah, she’s old here, but Melanie wrote that song herself, still plays her own instrument, and gave it a good, happy-hearted whack. Do you want me to list the names of today’s much younger, “studio-created” pop fucks who do *not* write their own material and who could *not* sit on a stage and croak while simultaneously playing an actual instrument? Respect for the old gal, people, PLEASE. Show some respect.
I always have, and always will, love you Melanie. Love you too, Beau! So wonderful to see you continue to spread love and music all over the globe. Peace! Sunshine
I saw Melanie live in 1970. She was so young, innocent and adorable. Her talent was as stupendous as her voice. Her stage presence was endearing. It was impossible not to fall in love with her. Her song, Candles in the Rain was a #1 hit around most the world and #6 on the US Billboard Charts. That song is every bit as much a Woodstock theme song as any other. See link.
I Will never forget the time I was blessed to meet you Melanie. Its been years. In Tarpon Springs. but I met Peter and all of your beautiful talented children. We broke bread and drank some wine It was and is the most fantastic thing that's ever happened to me.It's real hard to express in words because before I met you, many years before maybe 40 or more You were my mentor I didn't realize it at the time so much as I realized it when we met and shared music and laughter and now over 16 yrs later. It makes me so happy to see you perform I know you had to be a basket of nerves. Know this, If you were it didn't show what showed was the most open honest soulful talented inspirational person I've ever met. Thank You from the bottom of my heart Bless you for being you . Peace will come In our Lives I will Love you forever ❤❤❤
If you all have a problem with the performance, why not go make your own hits, and leave her alone. She is like 70. Most of you all look like hell in your 30s!
Heaven only takes its Angels where they are needed. Clearly, Melanie was needed someplace else. In the meantime, let us celebrate everything she's so selflessly gave us
Loved this song when I was a kid and I admit I was surprised when I first heard her, but I've grown to love this version. It's sung by someone who's lived a life in whatever way she's lived it I bloomin love her 💋
I love you Melanie. And I loved that you repeated my favorite part of the song with those great background harmonies over your "oh yeah, yeah, yeah....oh yeah...yeah....." xoxo !!!
I’m glad to know she’s still around and hopefully enjoying life. But I gotta respect those like Linda Ronstadt who know when it’s time to give it up. Some memories are best left as memories. Now instead of picturing the bouncing sexy girl in her 20s baby doll style, singing about roller skates, I got a 500# chain smoker bag lady missing 20% of her notes that is wheeled out on an oversized wheelchair.
I came here to reflect upon the passing of Melanie, ended up amused at the people in the background at 0:15 looking guilty like they just got busted for all calling in sick.
The most important verse, even she said so was the last verse. Because in the early 70's it was a man dominated world in rock-'n'-roll and she sang i think i did all right for a girl. She stood up to the establishment and she was a pioneer. Im not for sure if even her daughters realize that.
She wrote this song. From what I've heard, for some reason, she never got paid so she re-recorded iot and asked everyone to listen to that so she could get paid. I did. I didn't like it as much as the original. Now, I can't find it.
Love her. I wish though that when your vocal ability does not meet up with being able to hit any notes that made the song famous, you need to re-invent yourself or just retire and let people remember you when you were at your best.
It sounds ghastly, get real. You obviously love the sound of hideously drunk, bewildered, chain smoking bag ladies if you loved this absolutely risible performance. She's absolutely dreadful. She should disappear and never come back if that's her best.
@@mistermatix8241 I've already explained this and said why i like certain voices, clear and smooth doesn't always work for a song and vice versa for example Barry white, great singer etc but a lovely smooth deep voice it wouldn't work if his voice had been all gravely and harsh but seasick Steve's voice works for his style of music and helps tell the story of who the person is it shows their life, if u don't like a song just don't listen to it simple as that, no one is making you listen to a song. Are we done now?
@@mistermatix8241 its character and endearing and still doing it and if people like it awesome if they don't who cares i think Melanie is quite comfortable with everything, like yes its a little out of tune and its rough but fuck, that's the person, some people are just crap singers but some have "it" and it doesn't really matter about anything else. Also why are u still bringing this up this was months ago.
She did not age beautifully....drinking, over eating...not exercising.....she looks awful and unhealthy and her voice sounds as she now looks...awful. If she had taken care of herself, she would probably look not dissimilar to when she was 30 or 35. Unfortunately that's not the case. And please don't say she looks beautiful and you can see her wonderful soul in her expression and her face etc….etc..etc.. Not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about how she physically looks, and she looks absolutely horrendous...unhealthy in her body......no matter how beautiful her shining soul may be. Again, NOT what I'm talking about.

yup you been in my life every one and again.keep goin you beatifull girl!
For sure, one of my all time favorites. (We both share the same birthday, Feb. 3. 1947)
Thank you!!!!
All other drug addicts? I wouldnt call the people there all drug addicts. Someone that experiments with LSD especially in the 60s isnt a drug addict.
❤❤❤

She thanks you from Heaven.
Right on, preach it to me brother
Rest in peace, Melanie. I think this was my favorite song in 1971.
Mine as well! I was 11 at the time and they played it on the radio constantly ❤️❤️❤️!
It's different when u'r listening to a legend. No matter what, the song still sounds the best of all. Thanks, Melanie! U'r always the best.
❤❤❤
How sad she is gone. She will be missed. 😢
Rip beautiful Melanie!!!

Vocal cord fatigue is inevitable after 5 decades, but she's Melanie, by god, and I'm not giving up on her.
Yeah, Sir Paul is a bit croaky these days as well but he's still Paul by God McCartney!
Yeah she's still up there doing her thing!
❤❤❤
Love you forever Melanie!

R.I.P. Melanie. We love your music.
Fell hopelessly in love with the song and with Melanie when I first heard it in '71.

RIP Melanie 😢
Still Beautiful and a Great Song. She is so much older now so you don't expect her to look and sound the same
Happy 75th Birthday Melanie

For being from across the pond. That country sound just hits in the ❤️.
Machs gut, liebe Melanie. Vielen Dank für deine fantastischen Lieder - gute Reise. Ich hoffe, wir sehen uns mal da drüben! 😘
A legend is a legend she will always have my respect and admiration!
A great and under-appreciated song. Thanks Melanie.
Melanie is simply one of the original best.
Wow my friend that passed .. we would always sing this to each other … had to be there I miss him and these easy days
Absolutely loved that, that really did take me back xxx
Reminds me of my aunt that likes to get drunk af and sing karaoke
LOVE the band...a cool mariachi quality!
Thank you for this beautiful song. Thank God I'm listening of you now.
Love you Melanie always and forever you bring back the days of your songs and my childhood xoxo

Melanie.."done alright for a girl"
One Beautiful thing about the old schoolers we are all natural. The good ole days Nothing wrong with that we like what we like to quote Cass Elliot ♥️
great version still even after all the years
Well I loved this! Thank you Melanie.
Her voice is super scratchy, and it WORKS, this is GREAT
😪. ... she will always have my heart. 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚❤
Beautiful!!!
I love you Melanie. And I loved that you repeated my favorite part of the song with those great background harmonies over your "oh yeah, yeah, yeah....oh yeah...yeah....." xoxo !!!
She also wrote "I've got a brand new combine harvester" with Wurzel Gummidge

This song is a a great one. A classic really, John Prine before John prine
She still got it...rock on
She looks so badass
Its crazy how much music I listen to leads me back to Jools lmao
After seeing the "original" first....a bit late, but happy new year too. 😊
I love her.
loved you then, love you now , thank you very very much
Poor thing. Time is inescapable for us all. You are older than when you began reading this.
若いメラニーは本当にキュートでした。今でもキュート。大好きです。
I agree.
Beau, by her side, after all these years. Through thick and thin!
“I’m Dave England and this is the Bungie Boogie”
Solid gold from 55 years ago. This woman was hot. She’s old now. Her vital capacity and FRC lower now - can’t sing as well as she did.
Jackass brought me here
right behind 'ya
Good Lord
Bet she was fun to be around

I agree. The same thing happened tp whitney and peopöe still listened.
She was very kind to all of her fans. Great lady. Bought her live in New York album!
I still Love Ya! My kids said Im not a stocker I am a 61 year old Groopie!!!!!!!!!! lol
Atta girl!
❤
Look at Mel the Man soft-Ku
Time sucks.
She is now a cool older hippie chick
Wow
Awesome voice
Love her. I wish though that when your vocal ability does not meet up with being able to hit any notes that made the song famous, you need to re-invent yourself or just retire and let people remember you when you were at your best.
Jesus she looks like Jerry Garcia now
❤❤

I agree. The rawness and knowledge of the song goes a distance. To the untrained ear it may be raspy and out of tune... I pity them ones deeply.
WOW, ageing is cruel to some people.
Melanie Safka.
You grow Up like a good fine wiine!
WAS SHE MIMING lol
RIP Adge Cutler: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adge_Cutler
Its so sad shes losing it from age, now she sounds like a bad karaoke singer
She aged beautifully, her voice didn’t, she sounds like she’d been smoking
From a muscle car exhaust pipe by the sound of it

She’s in her 70s, changes happen by that age. I just enjoy the fact that she’s still with us. :)
MrIrishMC SSS 🤷♀️ better than the second reply I got 😂
@@philosopher0076 You do realise she's 77?
WTF?
That was 4 years ago. RIP at 76
ouch lol
RIP
More czcams.com/video/hNYb46_QcO0/video.html Miss her so much x
She's been next to too many speakers
I don’t mean to sound degrading, but her voice sounds like female Tom Waits.
Well............ she's still.......... alive, anyway.
👏😁
And if you could perform to this quality after decades in the biz you would have the amount of fans she does
I'm afraid that she did not sing it as good as she sang it at the end of 1971
Neither will you at that age.
Sorry i don't she should try to sing anymore her voice is gone:( it is painful to watch her struggle through the song:(
She really went downhill on those roller skates
Don't we all as the wheels of life roll on.
