Jesse Wants to Do Steroids

- Have you asked yourself if it is time to take steroids? In this video I am going to cover the thought process that goes on when someone decides to consider the use of steroids and other PEDs and whether or not it is a viable discussion to have.
In this iteration of AX Jeff, we have a question submitted by ATHLEAN-X’s own Jesse Laico. Jesse asks the question of whether or not it is time he should consider the use of steroids to help his training. Noting that he has made significant progress in his strength and physique, he feels left behind. He notes that people he sees at the gym and on social media making “more” progress than him and that these people are showcasing a “greater” physique or strength levels. Jesse even notes that if he could achieve even a fraction of the progress they’ve made, he would be happy.
Now, this line of thinking is not isolated to Jesse. There are many people out there, especially younger than him and with less training history under the belt that consider the use of steroids and PEDs. Where do these thoughts come from? Well, it certainly has a lot to do with the use of social media. There are many out there who abuse steroids and showcase their accomplishments on social media and they are leaving an impression on thousands of people that I think is negative.
Some people might accuse me of virtue-signaling a natural status and consider that a negative. I will gladly wear that badge as I believe that the more you can achieve on your own with the assistance of performance enhancing drugs, the more self accomplishment you will have. Maybe you won’t look as big and as lean as who you see on social media, or maybe you won’t be as strong, but there is something to say about being able to achieve what you can without assistance.
I think it’s a bad idea to compare yourself to those you see on social media because often, they have a different starting point than you. If you take a look at someone like Larry Wheels, he likely didn’t start at the same place that Jesse did. His mass, strength, and even bone structure is, at a baseline, higher than Jesse’s. Even if he were a natural lifter, he likely would have a greater advantage at growing than someone who started with Jesse’s baseline.
Does that mean you are doomed? Absolutely not! When it comes to building muscle and gaining strength, I think that it is important to understand that the progress you make naturally is more impressive than what you can do with the assistance of steroids and other PEDs. If you can build muscle naturally, then you can attribute all of your success to the hard work you’ve applied to not only your training, but your recovery and your nutrition.
If someone were to start taking steroids, especially early in their training, how much of their success can they attribute to their own hard work? Was it them training hard, dialing in their nutrition, and prioritizing their recovery? Or was it the “extra help” that they received? I think that if you stave off that desire, you will be more proud of the accomplishments you have made naturally.
When you are trying to build muscle, you don’t need to look at what others have achieved in order to gauge your own success. There are plenty of people on the internet that have said Jesse’s progress is nothing to showcase, that they can achieve the same amount of progress he has in a fraction of the time. These people themselves have been influenced by what they see on social media and are likely showcasing their own insecurities.
You have to consider the health ramifications that come along with the use of sterodis and not just physically, but mentally as well. Jesse has been public about his struggles with depression and anxiety and we know that the use of steroids can affect this further negatively. There are also the physical health considerations that you have to take note of. This personal decision can have lasting interpersonal consequences. If something were to happen to you, you would not only be affecting yourself, but those that love and care about you.
So, before you consider taking steroids, there are some things you need to consider when it comes to your health as well as your own sense of accomplishments. There is nothing wrong with being a natural lifter and I would argue that it makes the progress you’ve made even more impressive.

There's some good things about social media but man, overall I think it's a net negative for society.

Strong dude! Don't do the sauce as it seems you have an underlying issue with yourself. You think ppl will stop hating if you put on 20 more pounds with the sauce? Come on you aren't that naive.
Jesse, you have the physique that 95% of guys would die for. Your gains are nothing short of jaw dropping. I have watched all of Jeff’s videos and the ones with you are the most fun and relatable!😊. I’m with the majority, remove social media from your life and discover the happiness that action enacts. You are lucky to have an opportunity to be trained by Jeff. I have been trying to sign up with Athlean-x for a long time but spots aren’t available. I’m glad you two are so successful and ignore the haters that SAY they can do things but we don’t KNOW if they can.

People saying that the gains Jesse made would've been possible for him in half a year or even a year are delusional.
Definitely possible with the right genetics.
Saying otherwise is also delusional.
Not talking about myself BTW, unfortunately. But they do exist. I know a few.

It can also be a good teacher though.
Don't do it, Jesse. Ignore the haters.

For real. Jessie needs to learn at least 2/3 of the internet is inhabited by human sewage who exist to weigh others down. Keep your heads up, stay clean.
Jesse looks so good he’s an official respected and listened to member of the most popular fitness page on CZcams. Man is literally IN the industry and looks like he belongs there. We all compare ourselves to others and I’m sure people compare themselves to Jesse.
You cant even tell he works out. He has no clue how to workout or eat.
I love how hard this channel is fighting for its viewers’ health. The courage to tackle these important issues can literally save lives.
Jessie, dude, are you serious?? You look f%$kin awesome and have the physique most men would kill for. Don't listen to those who critisize you - they have likely never even stepped into a gym. Keep up the good work and forget all the 'never big enough' mindset. As someone who has been in the gym for over 35 years allow me to assure you you WILL NEVER be big enough, steroids or no steroids. It's the bodybuilder's eternal monkey on the back. Just know that what you don't see, others are admiring.
If I looked half as good as him, I'd be ecstatic.
I'm on my way, down nearly 30 pounds since March!
People gotta stop comparing themselves to others though.
Great comment
Got jealous with that squat shoulder push he was going. Dude looked more ripped than my jeans as a young fashionable teen
This is the first time I saw Jesse in about 3 years. I didn't know the comment they read was from him, but to be honest the first thing I thought was "he looks the same as three years ago." Not a bad thing of course, he looks good and a lot of men would be contented to have his body. But if his goal was to get bigger all this time, chances are he is doing something wrong. Perhaps he got stronger, more conditioned etc, and again he looks good already. But if we are talking about hypertrophy, it was never this channel's specialty. If you watch scientists and coaches specializing on getting bigger, and if you read researches on hypertrophy, you will see they radically differ from Jeff's approach towards almost everything: Exercise selection, execution, volume, nutrition, etc. It has nothing to do with steroids. It is obviously and absolutely possible for a young man to get bigger than 165 if he consistently and specifically trains to get bigger for over 5 years, even if he has bad genetics and started at 135 bodyweight.
People that criticize him are jealous because they had to take steroids to get beyond that point but they know they couldn't acheive what he did without steroids. So they invite him to join the steroids users and try to shame him to take that pride from him.
Jessy is underrated, even in his own mind...
He has what millions of others don't... strength, physique, popularity, humor, job and a great friend by his side...
Jessy playing with that blessed hand.

Jesse can deadlift more than most juiced up monsters weighing 60lbs more. That’s something truly deserving of respect
With that beard, he doesn't even need to lift. Jokes aside though, bro looks good fr.
Jesse was a fantastic edition to Jeff’s channel. Very good move on Jeff’s part moving him from behind the camera to in front.

Social media while beneficial, is also a CURSE of our time.
At the end of the day social media is free. What isn’t is the time and energy you give it. Be mindful what you consume, is it good or evil? Your mind is your temple, how you guard it is your choice.

I think I'm gonna start. Everyone I know who did it had there life changed massively for the better. They were all nerds that never got any girls. They did one cycle or two and now they all have casual flings with girls that wouldn't even give them a chance otherwise and they were all financial stable dudes beforehand too. Women are so vain. Look at Arnold. His still kicking strong and he blasted copious amounts. I really don't think one or two cycles could really hurt. Problem is I just don't know where to get them from.
Look I'm not condoning this comment. But usanabolic can sort you out. Just stay safe please. I hope you know what you're doing.
I can’t tell if you’re joking. You think having casual flings with a few girls who are vain anyway is gonna make you happy? lol.
So you want to get the attention of women who are attracted to muscle men? What, you want a long term relationship or just dip your wick? I would rather attract a woman who finds me interesting, who enjoys my company and who wants to give me all of herself, and not just her girly bits. And you know what? I did, 37 years ago, and she has chosen to stay with me ever since.
Raise the bar, my friend.
Bro honestly even if you do safety you’re essentially gambling your own life. If you deeply research the adverse effects of steroids, you’re putting yourself at risk for so many health issues such as heart attack, heart disease, liver disease, and even infertility. You’re also putting yourself at risk for things you’re genetically at risk for too and God forbid I hope you’re not at risk for any health issues. Stay natty man, it’s not worth to your risk to life to be acknowledged for the short term.

This is such a good video. Not just because the information and thoughts are helpful, but also because it shows Jeff's genuine care for his audience.
Absolutely, Jeff is a great ambassador.
Jeff and Jessie, I'm 49 years old and have put on 16 pounds of lean mass in less than a year based on your videos. I'm 6 ft 5 and 210 pounds now vs 194 pounds. I'm very very happy with my progress and my body now after spending too many years just being skinny. Thank you both. Jesse, your transformation is amazing...plain and simple. Social media is a curse and leaves all of us feeling inferior to others. Its not worth it. Dump social media. If you're not a professional athlete and you're considering steroids, you MUST QUESTION how insecure you really are. That goes for all of us measuring ourselves to those exhibiting "perfection" on social media.
Having started watching this channel years ago, I used to look at you, Jesse, as this weak scrawny guy. It’s so freaking cool how much you’ve made your body grow. It’s so cool how muscular and strong you are. I understand exactly what you’re saying, but you only get one body, and you’ve done amazing work with it. I think you should feel proud and keep enjoying the process. One cycle could make your body look better, but it could have very negative long-term effects on you when you’ve already done so great without them. You’re awesome and inspiring, Jesse! Take care of your health bro. Thank you both for the inspiration.
I love how such a father Jeff was in this video.
It responds to the crisis of fatherlessness in our culture, where drugs and addictions all numb us of this problem.

Thank you both for addressing this in such an articulate and persuasive manner. Thanks guys.
Why does everything have to be about size; who wouldn’t rather have the perfect body of a classic boxer, or, for that matter, a classical Greco Roman statue (there are literally hundreds of thousands of examples to see all over Greece and Italy)? That kind of physique is lean, subtle and fits into a suit perfectly. “Thinish” when compared to someone absolutely fixated on bulk but who can’t throw a punch, kick a ball, do a high jump or even hold themselves up on a bar for more than three seconds. So what’s it all for? Certainly NOT aesthetics since I think Michelangelo knew a lot more about male beauty and proportionality than the modern steroid taker.
did you write this while trying on panties? I just get that impression.
I watched a video about Jesse's progress about a year ago. Saw a comment to the effect of "Ha ha, I could put on that much muscle in two weeks", followed shortly by another comment that read, "Obviously you're on steroids". Two polar opposite conclusions drawn from the same information. The first person (likely on steroids) needed to elevate himself by diminishing Jesse's gains. The second needed to justify his own failures by diminishing Jesse's effort. Jesse should be proud that his results came from consistency, hard work and effort and not from a syringe.
Really enjoyed this video, fellas. Really positive language being used. Keep up the great work.

My trainer has the right attitude: she told her best friend who told her that he considers taking steroids that for her there is no "good" level of steroids. Either you take them or not. And if you do, she is out. Because she does not want to worry about him dying of heart attack for no reason. We had such cases here in the Czech Republic. She says that noone needs that sh...t and if one is not willing to work hard and be satisfied with what you achieve, one should stop working out. Because as you say, once you go on the slippery slope of drug addiction, nothing is ever enough.
Dude you have been an inspiration to me. Your gains in strength and total commitment are nothing short of incredible
I cannot thank you enough for this. Sooooo valuable. I'll always stay natural as a body builder and I've accepted that it will take me longer but the value of that eventual win is worth the sacrifice and grit! Mad respect for you and Jesse right now.
Jesse I don’t know you personally but I have watched y’all’s videos on and off for a lot of years. Stand firm brother be you. Don’t listen to weak people comparing themselves to you. You have grown in an area that you might not be natural at but great gains and didn’t choose something else to get you there. Be proud of the work and time put in. Focus on being proud of what has been accomplished. Next step in strength training (to add to your natural strength training) strengthen your self internally. Seek God first, die to self, encourage other people who are struggling. Maybe someone starting where you did. Or wrestling with things you do. Growth in life is a lot more than the superficial and maybe this is where you have come to now. Who knows might not give up because of you. Humor is definitely a strong suit with and that could help someone. People get caught up superficial stuff and then death or something else comes and not ready. Hang in there stand firm. Don’t listen to the punks comparing. If they have easier results than you if not weak internally they don’t need to comment. Stand firm
You have to love the journey and live happily within your genetic potential.

Thank you for making this video !
Thank you for this! I appreciate that you addressed the mental health ramifications. There are people like me, who struggle with addiction, who would get consumed and ruined. A little would never be enough. I don't like the person looking back at me in the mirror and I doubt getting a boost from steroids would change that opinion. The message of learning to love yourself for who you are and pushing yourself to your natural limits hits home.
Jesse, I remember when you started this journey. You weren't even interested in working out and Jeff was giving you grief for all the gummy bears you were snacking on. I don't think you realize how inspiring your journey has been thus far. And look at you now! You've gained 30 lbs total, and clearly more in muscle, and you look great! Not to mention, you're so hooked on your workouts now that you want even more. I know it isn't easy; our own thoughts can often be our worst enemy, but you don't need to chase the looks of other gym-goers or the praise of those on social media. There will always be someone trying to tear you down. Don't let that someone be you. Instead, tell yourself what I'm sure you'd tell anyone else in an instant that has gone on your journey. And that is that you're doing great, keep it up, and hold your head high! You should be proud of how far you've come.
I love your channel! I have made so much progress doing your workouts! Do you have anything on post workout stretches?
Jessie you look great, keep pushing. Super impressed with your hard work and gains.
Jeff , Jesse i can only speak personally but thank you for this. I've struggled with this decision for a long time and this video really hit me emotionally.
My liver is far too functional and my kidneys are too healthy. Also my heart is way too small and I need these internal organs to be heavily degraded through the abuse of chemicals. Is there hope for me to be able to damage my internal physiology via chemical dependency?
Who asked 😂? Got a bit of a "main character " syndrome going? An organ can fail without warning even in the healthiest person.
Ur heart will grow from training and exercise anyway.
Liver and kidneys will be totally fine providing you don't pound oral steroids and live on mcdonalds.
You do understand that there are millions of people on steroids across the world... Most of which do them completely wrong... And we have how many deaths? How many bodybuilder deaths didn't include insulin, diuretics, recreational drugs, genetic clotting disorders etc? Bc if it includes any of those it's not from the steroids.
Pretty simple stuff.
They aren't miracle drugs... It won't make Ur bench go from 405 to 595 and it won't kill you either. The truth is between the two extremes.
Finally Jeff. I think it's time too. I didn't even started lifting but I think it's time to take some of the good stuff. I'm glad we're on the same page.
Jesse, old chap, you look great. Speaking as a long term viewer of Athlean x, I have witnessed your journey. A true inspiration.
Great video and so true. Stop comparing to others and focus on earning your true potential through hard work and consistency. Thanks for the message. Jesse you are a beast! Enjoy it because you earned it! 💪
In 20 years when you are older and still strong and healthy, have a family, and can live each day without issues you will be happy you chose to not take steroids. Plus you can deadlift/ squat 3-4 times your weight? I would love to be able to do that. Be proud of what you accomplished. Truly amazing.
Steroids are safe and he can have a family healthy 20 years later. You skinny people are crabs in a barrel.
But Jesse you are doing so darn good, performance and how you feel inside is all that matters. If you start pushing that bodybuilder build, you're going to get more attention from men unless for women what do you have going on is the athletic build that women love, just like the swimmer's build and just like the Warriors build. You need not worry about looking like an elite bodybuilder. It's pointless.
"bodybuilders" display their inner issues for everyone else to see. Nobody is impressed that you spend too much time and attention on yourself. Congrats on picking up that heavy object and then putting it down. I hope it's a bigger object than your last object you picked up. Enjoy your ammonia byproduct from your excessive protein intake.
Your a good man to bring this to light.
I really get you Jesse, but keep up the good work and you really can be proud of yourself. I always look at the videos and think this guy is a beast. Stay safe brother
When I hit 55 my strength and my libido started to decline. I had my testosterone levels tested and found they were a little low at 300, and through trt I have them stable at ~800. My strength has gone up only a little and my libido a lot. I feel better in every single metric. I don't have any desire to increase my dose, and my doctor wouldn't let me even if I did. I wish Jeff would differentiate between this type of trt use and steroid abuse.
As a 30 year old with lifts like Jesse I'd never consider trt or steroid use. Honestly, he could put on some weight and gain strength at the cost of some body fat gain, easily. For his height 165 is light. I'm only 5'3" and weight a bit more than that with lifts about 20% less than Jesse.
In any case, I honestly think trt can be beneficial to those with low testosterone, especially for guys 50+ where their natural testosterone has dropped. I'd like to hear some distinction and discussion between those cases and those who are merely using it for gains.
Most people who say TRT really mean for performance above normal levels not for medical purposes to restore normal levels like you are doing so they give it a bad name.
He has to be this way for the girls crying in the comment section. But typically steroids monitored by a doctor are low risk. The risks are overhyped because of bodybuilders dropping 5 d balls a day for 2 years straight and wondering why they have liver disease. Then they lay in the hospital "hey kids don't do steroids, you'll end up like me."
Why do you need libido at 55?!?
The time for that has passed.
waaaaaaaah! He's not talking about limp dick. He's talking about people who want to look big and lift more. Libido problems with age is a different thing. And 1d a day a day isn't going to help you. It's fine you talked to your doc and got a dose that helps, but this isn't a medical channel. You don't have to look here for approval to take controlled steroids. Your doctor already gave that to you.
The discourse online nowadays sounds like an after school special. “Pssh, it’s totally safe, everybody’s doing it” 😅
Good honest Video, well done Jeff and Jessy! This helps people a lot!
Jesse, brother, I’m gonna be honest, and I’ve thought about juicing before, when I was younger, but no bs like your transformation and grit and progressive successes have been a source of motivation and inspiration for me, even, dude. You are a person I have shown to other people to motivate and inspire them for the better , as well… many times actually. I actually look at you with some of your recent lifts and feel a little envious, like god damn man good job.And I’ve been actively strength training and doing martial arts for almost 25 years .Your progress has resonated with my own hard gains and just your consistency shines through dude like a beacon. I’m actually an MFT, and so the mental health concerns are incredibly salient to me too, and I’m so stoked that Jeff took that approach. This was just a phenomenal video. Keep strong. You’re a bad ass.
Well said, I hope he reads all these positive comments, clearly coming from experience and the heart and understands he is loved, envied and has value. He also does a very cool Wookiee impersonation.
You look amazing Jesse & you've accomplished the unthinkable with where you started. I used to work out with my cousin & brother in law before I joined the Army. We used to watch the videos all the time & follow Jeff's programs, & you were very skinny lol. When I came back home the 1st time I couldn't wait to show them the progress you had made, & it reignited our passion to make gains. Don't let the haters bring you down. Stay strong brother, the true followers of your journey are proud of you.
I’ve been watching this channel for more years than I even know. You’re jacked out your gourd Jesse. You’ve come a long fucking way
lol me too, but lets not bs - Jesse is still pretty small. Bigger sure, but not big.
@@aliengreeterLOL bullshitting 😂 He‘s not small and btw he‘s fcking strong. Bet u small af
Dont' even need to watch the video. I've been given the green light!
Lol
I respect the question. I love the openness of "Lessie" in these recent videos. I'm reminded of a video that Mike Israetel did recently where he discussed (within the video) his super increased depression levels and still (with as huge as he is) lack of satisfaction and always wanting more. He's not just a gym bro and has some goals he's reaching for personally (also discussed in that video). If you are natty, the gains can stay with you into your later years and actually keep you healthy. Start your day with gratefulness and invest your (potential PED) money into something that will grow value as you continue smiling at how healthy and active you are. Proper Perspective is a great way to boost your self esteem. Go walk around Wal-Mart or go to a local sporting event and see how many people are actually healthy looking. You are in the top percentage of people if you are not overweight.
I remember Jessie way back when he started to become a regular on the channel and even the conversation with Jeff on doing a program to now. I’ve watched it all and I’m happy to say I enjoyed seeing the progress even helped me by saying if Jessie can do it so can I. your transformation is something I wish to get however I am happy with myself being 185 I lost 80 pounds in little over a year so be happy with that my man you have inspired many people. As I watched this video I honestly became disappointed that Jessie would try this i understand the mindset but again like Jeff said the accomplishments doing it all yourself outweighs any false sense of needing it for progress. Your doing great and I appreciate you both talking about this and all the aspects because if I know someone who thinks about it imma use this video
