You might be older than me, but either way, I'm about to hit 40 at the end of the summer, and it sometimes feels like I blinked at the end of high school and ended up here. Time is so strange, in that way. It all happens so fast.
I love that videos like this exist. No one, at the time, says "this is important, we need to document this" We just get lucky that some rando at a random bar or community center took video of what would become an incredibly important band. Thanks!
Maybe it was no one's fault I know it wasn't mine But now that you've moved along I guess I'm next in line I thought we had the same ideas But you, you proved me wrong I've been played the fool before But never for quite so long Betray, betray Betray, betray Betray, betray Betray, betray So what now? By most accounts Lyle Preslar was kind of a jerk to people back in the Minor Threat days, and could be pretty scathing to his bandmates at times. VICE did a pretty interesting interview with Steve Hansgen (the bass player on Out of Step and seen here in the SSD shirt) where he talks about being scapegoated by the others for small playing mistakes and the like while on tour. Read here: www.vice.com/en_us/article/rnwzgb/an-interview-with-steve-hansgen Brilliant band, of course, but they were also all young and pretty hot-headed so it seems like interband relations could be pretty volatile. Another interesting perspective on them is this podcast interview done with Lyle where they talk about how the four of them (sans Hansgen) handle MT's business affairs in the modern day: goingofftrack.com/2012/05/04/lyle-presla/
Not sure, but it looked to me like he didnt want the bass playing at the intro, It seems like he wanted the bass to kick in when the vocals come in for more impact but that's just a guess, judging from the way he didn't seem to have a problem after that once the song kicked in with the vocals.
I believe he's busting his chops cause he missed the first hit. Kinda ridiculous in an hc band to be going after this kind of things especially during the performance.
i don't remember it being this fun. hehehehe.. i think i got punched in the face 3 times. and got kicked in the nuts twice. oh nvm that was fun. Best fucking band of all time. I'm not a minor threat. are you?
It's no surprise they broke being the kind of guys they were; meaning smart. Touring and dealing with all the bullshit at every show with the slam dancin' and mohawk anarcho punks, etc. just gets to you and it can get old Quick. DISCHORD is like such an "art project only" label. FUNNY FACT: LUNGFISH is the longest running band on the label and they were not even from D.C.
I have always loved Brian Baker’s starts and stops. It adds alot punchiness to the songs. I wish they did one more full length.
He was already a great guitar player at that age
The message this band brought would have had real traction in the 20’s of this century.
Back from early 80'a ... nearly 40 years ago ... still flooating me away ... where this creative rage disappeared
Were YOU.. 'Staight Edge' ALL those years?!
I bought this on VHS.
Shit, I'm old. 😃

I’m here to watch Baker kill it on guitar as a teen

Who da f*ck would put a thumb down on this video? Minor Threat rules!
I wonder what Lyle was yelling at Steve for during the intro?
Saying, "don't play"?? it looks like Steve was starting too early?

Ian MacKaye can be proto-Phil Anselmo
Yeah, but without the sieg heiling
Who is the second guitarist?
One Is Lyle Presslar (with the les paul) and the other is Brian Baker. They didn't have two until the last album "Out of Step"
The 2nd guitarist ended up being their bass player
If they reunited, they would make alot of money,I would pay big bucks to see them 🍻🎸
Brian Baker who went on to play bass full time. I forgot the had Hansgen on bass back then too!
