I have to say: Great strategy to farm it, and really efficient / time-saving. But the other thing I have to say is, thank you for the little reminder of taking breaks, stretch and relax. You're the only one I came across that actually mentionned this. It's worth telling it.

Farmed this on SFF, took me 22(ish) hours. Great guide, this is exactly how I did it myself. One thing that's worth mentioning is that, after reaching level 7 on your characters, you can save some time by just logging once you see that Hillock doesn't have Oni. This is dangerous if you're afraid of accidentally logging and missing the Oni, but an easy way to avoid this is to just zoom in on him every time you reach the end, just to be sure.

But i have a question: i have to create 3 scions to log in Rotation because of the timelock for map reset, then bring those 3 in Rotation to lvl 7 where it could drop. Did i understood this correctly? And i have a Chance for every scion of getting one sword?? Thx for your Kind answer

You're missing one thing, kid.
This farming is NOT based on the drop rate. It's based on the luck of spawning the right Hillock which is already set.
It is visible from first sight whether he will drop the weapon or not. His chest is glowing and there is a special dialogue for this encounter. You don't need to kill him unless you see that glow. You don't level up several characters but you just keep creating a new one after you went to check on him.
And no, inviting a magic finder, then creating a portal to the strand won't increase your chance to encounter the correct Hillock.
Drop rate is 100% if you encounter him.

found mine in the first 5 hours of the character creation. thanks for the guide, made the farming more bearable, cus i was sitting like an idiot with chest piece of sword and shield with 3% mov speed, basically negating said move speed

i did this once, took me like 16 hours before i got one.
was not worth the time or effort to do that grind and im never doing it again, but im happy to have managed the boring ass grind it was a personal achivement for how long i can focus while being bored out of my mind.

its not time efficient at all, you will make more currency getting to and doing maps in that time instead of farming a 2ex item for 15hrs and then have to spend the time to do the acts aswell.

as of 9/3/2020 it took almost 14 hours and getting 3 characters to level 8 and one to level 7

i did this one time at a league start. It was painfull, uber hillock spawned after 16hrs in one sitting of grinding that shitty beach xD
i just start make this again :) my 3rd time.... 7.5hours wasted so far ^^,
I have a dumb question... can the item to be tradable when you convert the character to normal mode after you farm it in the SSF?
Should be. This game doesn't really do untradable items outside of quests.
FYI, there is no limit of Oni's per character. I made a few farming characters last league and had a full inventory of them on ONE character before going to town just to maximize the farming time per selling profit from it while still keeping 2 decently rolled ones for my own build.

Rangers have much higher attack speed, range and reliable damage. Plus some pretty good bows can drop to up your DPS.

Took me about 12 hours from 4 days. 3 scions all got to level 8, found it around the 20% level 8 mark. Standard. I knew it wasn't gonna be worth it, super boring. Going for another because I have 2 level 8s now lol. Would be worth it for half the time but whatever.
Woke up and logged in and found another within 30 minutes with my other level 8 around the 60% bar. I suppose if I find another with the 3rd char today it will be worth it.
Ok last update so I my last original batch of scion got to level 9 and found it at the 6% exp mark. Within the same 24 hours each of my 3 scions found their oni. Is it worth to farm the weapon to own, no buy it instead. Is it worth it to farm the weapon to sell, only 1 I would say no. But is it worth it to make a batch of 3-4 chars and potentially find the oni for each char somewhere between level 8-9 i would say yes if you have no other system of farming currency. It is boring and makes me very sleepy, I found a few other uniques but nothing worth anything. Running blood aqueducts is way less maddening. Getting to level 9 without finding that last one was disheartening but I assume the average is 8.

Fastest way? Thought this was the only way it's done pre-game leveling. How I did it pre-nerf and after nerf. After having done it post-nerf, never again... nearly went mental. Kudos for the nerve to stick to it lol

Thanks for the guide. It took my 10 hours to get it and my characters didn't even hit lvl 8, so I guess I'm in average spot. I think I'm going to keep the sword as a souvenir though - I'm too afraid to play with it on ssf hc :D

I did it on the Legion league but didn't record it. Even Wikipedia don't have all of her replies. Like Shakari's one. And still no video with her dialogues on CZcams...
P.S: Definitely not gonna play with Goddess in 3.9, since it's too hard to farm until level 90... And after that is probably PoE 2...

I dont have a guide on it but i have a video getting it on my channel. It was a shadow with viper strike. He doesnt spawn anything if you are right in his face. If you are far away from him with spectral throw he will continuously spawn monsters

I have done this twice because it kills me to spend currency on something anyone can farm. After the “mud walk” I didn’t even want to play the current league anymore. Again I have done this twice and each time received 2-3 oni’s and quickly sold them and quit.

Oni-goroshi This sword is useless? What's the point of it? 1) Oni-goroshi is not useless 2)I farm with it t15 and t16 maps Oni-goroshi mit Elemental fire Chieftain (all Phys to Elemental Damage) if you did that and finished Atlas with all 159 maps you will greatly appreciate the Oni ! and if you are very fast you have it in 5 hours ! and thanks for the upload Remixed ! let's see what comes next

Thanks for breakdown. It will be definitely helpful to newer players. Although I think that ranger is objectively an better choice for this farm: clear speed is much better and burning arrow just deletes mobs on the edges without running close to them. This is somewhat important till lvl 8 where Uber Hillock spawned most of the time for me (Out of ~20 drops that I had after drop nerf in various leagues, only 3-4 dropped on lvl 7). Surely Scion runs faster and all, but Spectral Throw is just annoying and not that good in actual Uber encounter either.

So I played on PS4 till level 85 or so and got to like T9 maps or so before saying screw this time to go pc.
But as someone who’s clueless on making good currency you still think the oni farm wouldn’t be worth it? Let’s say it takes 12 hours. Currently oni is going for 2 ex. I want a god roll 6l voidforge which is 2ex or more.
I know I can’t make 2 ex in 12 hours or at least I don’t on PS4. Would the oni farm not be a good way to gear up my character with an amazing weapon or spend the 2 ex on a lot of the rest of my new characters gear?
Can anyone confirm there are other ways to aquire? Sac altars etc? If not, then it becomes a balancing act. If everyone just wants to buy one, and no one farms, then the market is dried up.

Haha, I farmed it back before it was changed all the way to level 7, I was one of the first people to have more than one and made 50 exalts because I decided to cycle 11 characters and they sold for 5 ex almost instantly took me 10 hours of nonstop farming and that was after the 8 hours to get them all to level 7, my advice make a shadow for single target and just run to hillock ignoring everything, kill him pick up upgrades to gear and repeat dont worry abt level since you will inevitably level up from killing hundreds of hillocks

Also a shield with movement speed will help you on your leveling process/way to boss
Wearing a shield is not going to make you any faster. Shields have a hidden -3% move speed mod.

6h40min to get one. Dropped 3 uniques during the grind.

There is a character level requirement of at least 7 but chance goes up with more levels.
I bet all those crazy exiles from 3.9 farmed oni... I cant blame them for going crazy. I've farmed oni myself... twice.

You can but the chance of it happening scales with your character level. Killing Hillock is the only reasonable source of XP. I'd stop killing after lvl10 though.

I’m new and clueless so could never farm 2 ex in 12 hours or w/e the oni farm takes. I don’t see how his statement is always true. Oni farm seems straight forward for even a scrub and sells for 2 ex atm
The question is how do you get those bigger flasks? They don't drop 1st act.. Also, no levels shown on your character selection screen... fake af. And no you can't enter town or you need to delete your character, so you can't upgrade flasks, before noobs spam.
The art was changed for all flasks in 3.8. This is the art for the old medium flasks.
i wonder what the spawn chance per level is.
Looking on poe.trade, generally over an exalt atm, can see this being a popular method for bot farmers/ currency sellers...

Exp. As you have more chance the higher you are. Also, possible upgrades if you don't already have a beefed out lvl 7 :)
hillock gives quite good exp for the time needed to kill him. also he drops much better gear than mobs

The only reason we even have these sowrds is because of bots spamming this. This is never worth farming for, might as well zoom zoom clear all content and buy it from someone who botted it.
