    I got me some 600 spine arrows with 100 gr brass and 150 gr tips pulling 48 lbs to the fingers. My arrows are flying like bullets. Thanks a million man. I don't have anyone to learn from so you've pretty much been my mentor, I've been watching you for 2 months now and you've transformed my shot. I don't think I would have been ready for the hunt this year without you Jeff, thank you and God bless 😎

    Jeff, I changed my arrow set up this summer too. I shoot a 42@28 limbs and draw right about 30in. I used a VAP TKO Elite V1 in a 400 spine. 95gr insert. 200gr VPA 3 blade. Already killed a deer in Tennessee. Complete pass through. Best penetration Ive had since my wedding night!

    Back in the nineties I was shooting a 55 LB draw brackenbury recurve. What you were saying I find to be fact. The only difference in your set up was I used a heavier bow being I am 6' 1 1/2" tall and weigh 220LBS .As I was watching your video it dawned on me that Your system looks like a person could use ratio to proportion to set up their bow if one happens to use a different draw weight bow than you? I used a 160 grain broadhead on my arrows and canted my bow till the shelf made a perfect "V" with my bow tuned properly my arrow would jump in line with my eye after leaving the bow. This let me know I was going to hit where I was looking 95% of the time and the few times it didn't it was only a fraction off. You are the first person that I have seen that sets up a bow almost exactly as I use to. People that want to perfect their archery skill would be wise to follow your advice.

    Howdy Jeff, scenario question for ya, 51 pound longbow here, 615 grain arrow...350 upfront...use that arrow on deer and black bear, no issues. Now let's say you get drawn for an elk hunt...on the ground hunting...do you lessen your arrow weight to make 30 yard max shots a little easier, and take abit of a penetration minus....or do you keep the same arrow and now say 25 yards or bust? Thanks my friend. I can honestly say when I hear you say "absolutely perfect" I always crack a smile!

    • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  Před rokem +1

      Well, for elk at 30 yards plus you’ll definitely need plenty of FOC for penetration and your 615’s sound perfect to me but you can do the same thing with a faster and flatter shooting 550gr setup like the Airstrike or Axis with around 275 up front, I’ve got some Airstrike 400’s with 120 gr Ethics and 200gr VPA’s flying really fast and flat out of a 50# recurve, definitely a killer Elk setup 👍🏻

  • @Kurtdog63

    I have gotten frustrated bare shaft tuning with a nocking point that was set too low, so that basically nothing was gonna fly. I used to set a temporary nock set about 1/8 of an inch high. I shifted to starting at 1/4 inch high and that seemed to greatly improve the starting arrow flight testing for up and down. Even if you shoot canted, you have to tune holding the bow straight up and down or you will get all kinds of false readings on arrow flight. Isn't it awesome when an arrow will dart with no fletching in a matched set up?

    • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  Před 2 lety +3

      Absolutely! All of my bows typically require between 1/2” and 3/4” usually 5/8” above center is the magic spot and arrow diameter does affect the nock height needed for a good bareshaft tune as far as the up and down are concerned 👍🏻

    • @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998
      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  Před rokem +1

      Yes sir, I’ve actually experimented with that and what I’ve found is that once the FOC becomes too heavy for the particular shaft and they’re all different natured even in the exact same spine and length they start kicking tail high and even with feathers tend to dive quickly and usually that’s around 350-400 grains.

Im pulling 43#, and using black eagle vintage 500 shafts, simmons 190 tree sharks and factory inserts. @@chadcowman6293 all you can do to know for sure is skin one and bare shaft test it with a field point to see and it might be fine, you can always bump up the point weight a little more if it impacts tail right but that’s the only way to know for sure unless they’re flying the broadhead really good at like 30 yards, it takes that much distance to really watch what the flight looks like and you can do that if you don’t want to cut the feathers off.

    I shot split for many years and never bare shafted. I switched to 3 under and tried bare shafting this year. I have gotten prefect arrow flight out of these shafts out to 30 yards. Decided I wanted to switch back to split and am having a heck of a time finding the correct nock height. I've gone from 1/8" to 3/4" and it always flies nock high and into the dirt past 15 yards. I've tried a split finger tab and now a glove and am getting the same results. I don't think I'm pinching the nock but I could be wrong. I also feel I have a fairly consistent release. Any ideas on what could be happening?

      @instinctiveaddictionarcher8998  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes sir and this is an all too common problem with lots of people and from what I can determine it’s in the tiller of the bow itself, sometimes the bow is just not tillered for split meaning it’s closer to even than positive which is perfect for three under but not split, sometimes you can get certain arrows with higher FOC to tune and fly well, I’ve found that in that situation the best fix is to do the old toothpick under the rest trick to elevate the rest a little 👍🏻

    • @ZombieOnaStick21

      @@instinctiveaddictionarcher8998 I spent the afternoon trying to figure it out. I tried the toothpick with no luck and also a small piece of furniture pad to raise it to over a 1/4 of an inch also with no luck. The tiller measurements of this bow are 7 3/8" for the top limb and 7 1/2", so that's a negative tiller, right? Could that be the problem? Not sure if this matters because I had gotten great flight out of them with 3 under but I am shooting full length Easton Gamegetter 340s with roughly 205 grains up front (including insert) and a total of around 610 grains. 60lb black hunter longbow with a 26in draw length. Hey Jeff, how are you buddy? Hey I don't have an email address for you so I hope you find this here. I need your advice on something. Right after I got my bow from you I bought a Sellway Bow Quiver for it. It came and I tried to mount it on my bow, and I ordered the recurve model, but it would not fit. I could not mount the quiver any closer than about 6 to 8 inches from the fadeout of the riser and the limbs. The first time I drew the bow with that on there it was definately harder to draw. If I tried to force the thing down the limbs closer to the riser, the rubber parts would just come apart. So this just wasn't going to work and I returned it. Then I bought a "Big Jim's Bow Company" quiver with about the same results. So at that point I just gave up on using a bow quiver at all. Then I came across Bob Lee Bow Company's website. Bob Lee was the guy who owned Wing Archery many years ago and in fact I have two of his bows I bought in the early 70's. Anyhow, they sell a Great Northern Bow Quiver and a mounting system that uses the limb bolts to attach the quiver to the riser. I thought this would be the perfect quiver as it mounts to the riser and not the limbs. So I ordered one and asked when I ordered it if they thought it would work with my bow. Bob Lee Bows have two bolts per limb, whereas mine only has one bolt per limb. In my first communication with them they thought it should work just fine. But this morning I got an email from them saying that:
    “Unfortunately, we are flying blind on how the Quick Mount Great Northern will perform on your Instinctive Addiction Archery longbow, and as such, cannot offer much input on the subject. Have you spoken to the bowyer, and/or to Great Northern about this? They would no doubt be able to help. We are reluctant to ship but we will do so with your blessing.”
    I’m at a point right now where I feel like if this quiver mounting setup won’t work I will just hunt witht my bow in my left hand and an arrow in my right hand. I probably will only get one shot anyhow if I do run onto and elk, but these quivers that mount to the limbs just aren’t working out for me. Here is the link to Bob Lee Bows company video where they show how this quiver mounts to the bow. If you wouldn’t mind watching it and letting me know what you think, I sure would appreciate it. Here is a link to the video on their website that shows the mountin of one of these quivers to their bow.
