I just want to take the opportunity to say that the Murphy/Contreras deal still makes absolutely zero sense for the A's to have done and it eats me up inside every single day
It makes sense in terms of ownership wanting to tank to get out of town. Criminal stuff
by having the fortune of the Athletics valuing Ruiz significantly more than it seems like the general public/market did, and the Braves not having a piece Oakland valued as much, forcing Atlanta to run the trade through Milwaukee
I like to think the Brewers hold all their catchers family hostage and every time they drop a passed ball they kill one of them
If only the Brewers could develop hitting this well
if they could develop hitting like pitching and catching defense they would be a powerhouse.
They went from developing hitters like Braun, Fielder, Weeks, Lucroy among others to pitchers like Hader, Woodruff, Burnes, Williams. How about do both.. Together!
@@philbilly8755 I mean they have done that with their outfield this year. Assuming they are all healthy, between Weimer, Taylor, Mitchell, and Frelick
As a brewers fan, I think they should not be stopped, and we should be given funding to expand our lab to other positions
I lived 7 miles directly East of the Pitching Lab and I swear sometimes I saw groups of unmarked cars driving down Indian School Rd. Sometimes I saw baseballs in places you would not expect them. The lab is REAL I am not crazy.
Of course! The last place anyone would think to look for the Catching Lab would be the Pitching Lab. Genius.
As a Brewers fan, watching Contreras has been an absolute treat.
Cards fan here, and I wish I could say the same about his brother. We know he can slug, but his 2023 numbers don't reflect that yet. He's very good at throwing out base stealers, but he was gifted a pitching staff and middle infielders that worked with Yadi. His framing and blocking still need improvement for him to become a decent backstop long-term.
@@JobiWan144 as a Cubs fan, give him a lil time, he’s going to blossom for y’all
@@JobiWan144Contreras has been a historically good blocking catcher and his framing is league average right now. He also has a couple of DRS. Overall, his defense has been a positive. He’s also not the catcher long term. He’ll catch this year and maybe next year, but Herrera is the long term catcher. They’ll platoon for a year and the Contreras will be the full-time DH with Herrera as the starting catcher.
wake up babe new foolish bailey vid
I watched this video and my pop time improved by 20%
I KNEW IT WAS REAL! I KNEW IT WASN'T JUST ALL IN MY HEAD. Brewers Catching Lab. Brewers Catching Lab.
i for one don't think they need to be stopped and should keep doing this
Well... Well... Well you sound like a real jerk!
*Angry Pirate Fan Noises*
As a Brewers fan we literally EXPECT beautiful defense and pitching, but man a hitting lab would be nice too right??
Gary Sanchez must be blowing up the brewers' phone to get a shot over there
Can you talk about JD Davis's insane turnaround on defense? He's been a top 3 3b in baseball defensively this year
Hes batting .307 with a 122 OPS+ so far, and we turned him into a good defensive catcher to boot hahaha.
They also turned yasmani grandal into a great defense catcher
Nah. He was already a really good defensive catcher. The framing was trending down but rebounded in Milwaukee but he went from 12 DRS to 0 in Milwaukee. We just got the last good framing year out of him but 2015-2017 he was an asbolute monster behind the plate.
Bailey I’m loving the humor you got going on lately. Real good stuff! Keep up the good work. I started with the baseball bits and I stayed for the foolish Bailey.
For some reason I was expecting Jeff Mathis to somehow be involved in this story.
I am very glad to hear a shoutout for Baseball's Not Dead. One of the few truly quality baseball youtubers out there, along with "Look it's Baseball" who is new but awesome. Stark Raving Sports is quite good too.
Now if we could also talk about how Baseball Doesnt Exist and Sportstorm are the big bang theory of baseball content- the lowest common denominator, pointless but appeals to dumb people who watch it because it doesn't make them think or challenge them to do anything except for see a thing they recognize and then start clapping- this would be truly justice done.
Honestly, this channel has the most consistent video quality on CZcams. Refreshing to see when everyone else is just mass producing low density videos. Awesome work brother, keep it up.
Dude your videos are insane idk how you get the idea for these half the time but well done
Very well put together. Listen to this while driving.
Dude you make peak quality content. Never change
Very interesting stuff to listen to. Not sure why it popped up on my recos, but now subbed (not that you need more subs), great content. Appreciate this stuff.
I went to a coaching clinic with Charlie Greene presenting back in 2011 in the Netherlands. He is incredible.
I’ve been noticing this also great to see the breakdown on it. Seeing Alvarez 10th is sick
As a Braves fan I still don't know how the Brewers came out with Contreras in that trade 😂
As a lifelong Brewers fan, I never knew about this. Excellent analysis and entertaining to boot.
One of your better videos. Thanks Bailey!
FINALLY some Brewers content. It's relegated to the second channel, but that's just the Brew Crew way. I'll take it
You mean to tell me that coaching staffs work dilligently to improve a players weaknesses? How innovative!
the ghost of jonathan lucroy lives on
My wife's a huge Brewers fan. She loved seeing something positive about her team for once.
Bailey is a man of the people, he even has a monitor at pet height on the floor so they can watch his videos
I think we need a further investigation. I say go to Milwaukee and make a detective-style series investigating this secretive organization...
Excellent work sir
Well done!
great video!
if you added any sort of animation here this is an elite FBb video
As an A’s fan it breaks my heart. All the catchers you mentioned were all once on the A’s. Minus Contreras. Good video.
You're right, that IS the face of a Braves fan. Stunning.
A 7 minute video to lead to a Dad Joke so bad/good Bailey created an immaculate conception somewhere on earth
Love it Great stuff
Could this catching lab fix Ryan Doumit's defensive shortcomings in his prime?
As a Brewers fan this is gold 😂😂 and SPOT ON. I remember Lucroy coming up and actually going to some of his high A games he was horrid behind the plate… What we do is a wonder of the world
Heim being an elite switch hitter and the most valuable defensive catcher is wild
Best podcast I ever viewed!
Need a video on the jays catchers last year
fun thing about players completely turning around their defensive profile: JD Davis currently has a 99th percentile OAA at 3rd base. I am not joking.
also Joey Bart is on the blocks above average top list from this year and the low list from last year. Giants Cheating Lab is back open
The question at the end 😂
My hometown Brewers !
this is the Jonathan Lucroy effect. a catcher the Brewers made into a god, who left and just couldnt do it ever again
Lmao I couldn’t believe it when you dropped the name Dr. Leathers
Awesome stuff. I would love to see Yasmani who gave up a ton of passed balls with LA and then had no noticible issues while he mashed with the Brewers. I saw he was on the worst defensive catchers list at the end with the White Sox haha
My favorite brewers catcher is 2018 NLCS Grandal
Bailey, come to Phoenix to investigate with me. We can catch a Diamondbacks game while we’re at it. Bring bolt cutters.
Love the video but that building across the street has nothing to do with the Brewers. I was a catcher in the Brewers organization a few years ago and we never went over there. The gate around that facility is there because the spring training field is located in Maryvale which is not the best area. And the catchers in the Brewers organization are so good because of Charlie Greene. That man is a genius.
Your ncaa stats are amazing. Hope you made equally amazing memories with the game there and after.
6:52 I immediately with no thought said “Children.”
definitely onto something with the leathers connection, get some private investigators to bust in there and take a look around, see what they dig up
Amazing how good of a catcher Murphy has become despite formerly being a snooker player
thank you for talking about the brewers
Googlemaps says that that building is home to a pediatrician's office. A little TOO convenient that it's a doctor's office, known for working with LABS 👀
You couldn't find a more suspicious name for a pediatrician/secret catching wizard than Dr. Leathers.
Wow, I had no idea! Brewer's fan, here! Yeahhhh!
Bros onto something with that so-called “pediatrician office”
So when can we finally get Manfred to investigate this? And which Brewers employee can we send to jail? Let's be honest. We already know some felonies are being commited in that lab. If it looks like a felony and catches like a felony... It's a felony. Should they just arrest the Brewers catching coach off the bat or go after Contreras and lean on him until he squeals for a plea bargain? We can't rest until at least one person pays the price for this.
No felony’s, just justice! It’s an elite facility to stop crooks from stealing bases, everyone’s got this story twisted 😂
@@timtebowsleftknee No... It's a lab. As in scientific laboratory. They are clearly cloning their own catchers and splicing their DNA with Johnny Bench. That's got to be illegal. Even if it weren't, where is the real William Contreras? They had to make him disappear so no one would ask questions. Where did he go? What have they done with him?
Thanks for this video, cuz we were such a threat that you needed to expose our 1 field of expertise lol
Excellent
if I was looking to scrap a whole team's leadership and swap, I'm starting with someone from the Guardians for pitching, Dodgers for hitting/structure, and Brewers for Catching. Figure out leadership there and you can literally build management around them, including their bosses
That giant cylindrical piece of the building is the still where the catchers are brewed.
Next: Braves Pitching Lab. I’d love to know why Domingo Robles is all of a sudden amazing now that he’s with the braves. Honestly just waiting for another stat line scouting.
"Janet is a girl's name of British origin meaning "God is gracious" or "God's gracious gift."
Therefore, 'Janet Leathers' = 'God's gracious gift? Leather'. Sounds about right for a facility where the Brewers bestow offensive catchers defensive glove abilities.
Bailey is at it again
This video is super interesting
My old highschool coach was a catcher for the brewers. He must not have went, he never left the bullpen 😶🌫️
Fun fact the Molina bothers use to play on the brewers and the cardinals now it’s the Contreras
Love seeing my boy Kirk as number 3 in blocking ❤
LET'S GO
The Angels also have a catching lab. Unfortunately they can't stop them from getting injured. However Stassi and O'Hoppe's replacements in Wallach and Thaiss are still very good. Too bad we still poverty
As an Astros fan watching JT Realmuto catch fucking everything that got within 10 feet of him during the 22 WS was a treat, reminded me of the Brad Ausmus days. Everyone says Maldanado is "a wall", and maybe he was at one point in his career but he sucks now, it's no surprise he's not top 10 in blocks above average.
Loved seeing the cards 3rd 4:48 right there yadi deserves the hall
6:52 i am convinced
Good to see my Brewers finally be scary against other teams.
LOL at the thumbnail
I love this
This can't go on. They can't keep getting away with this.
Shoutout Johnathan Lucroy not only is he a product of the lab but he’s working for the lab now too.
As a Brewers Fan, The development of our catchers is just so good bro. They just have great development and are intelligent
Mj melendez has improved on defense this year but very small sanple size if the brewers offered robert gasser i would take it picked him because that name is amazing
Zunino needs to go there for few months. To up his throws and blocks
great vid kid - keep it up
As a Braves fan, hated to see William to go but we’re happy with Sean Murphy
I'm less interested in the how and the where and more interested in the WHO? This would have to be someone affiliated with the brewer for well over 10 years, assisting with Lucroy's development. As you may suspect, not many people predate manager Craig Counsell but I did find one man, one former *CATCHER* who has been with the org since his playing days in the minors starting way back in 2002!: Nestor Corredor.
In 2016-2018, Nestor Corredor managed the rookie-level Helena Brewers. From his time there, only 3 hitters have made the majors. Two of them being Nestor's starting catchers Cooper Hummel and Payton Henry. Of Henry, Fangraphs said this last year: "A bat-first high school catcher who was considered a long shot to stay behind the plate, Henry has made sufficient developmental progress as a defender and now projects to stay back there." HMMM. Seems like perhaps the Brewers sent guys with poor defensive catching ability.
Starting in 2021 Corredor became the bullpen catcher for the Brewers, you know, when Narvaez jumped into the elite tier. This year you can find him listed at the bottom of the Brewers official coaching staff page as 'coach'. As if they didn't want him to even bullpen catch but just focus on working with William Contreras every waking hour. I rest my case and I hope you find it compelling.
basebal
With this information I'm kinda surprised they didn't take a stab at Gary Sanchez
Janet Leathers gonna be so damn confused lol
The building theory is fun but that commercial building is guaranteed 3 stories and I don't think you'd want to put a training facility in an office height space. Pitchers scraping their knuckles on the dropdown ceilings every time they pitch from the mound lol
The Brewers have always had top tier defense catchers
you must’ve been so excited to see that pediatrician’s name
Martin Maldonado also got his start with the Brewers, and now holds a job exclusively because of his defensive prowess
Completely agree with this vid. I once went into their catching facility for a tour but when I left I was a 1.3 defensive fwar player and now have to charge the batteries on my new right arm when I sleep
Wanted to take a look around myself, so I called to ask if they're wheelchair accessible. They said, "Entrance Only," so I skipped it.
@@bryanflynn2855 lmao
My buddy went a year or two ago, he still asks about some random Brewers fan named Sarah Connor every once in a while... Really weird, she must've left a lasting impression!
😂😂😂😂😂😂
