Incredible drumming on this track. Difficult time signature and immaculate shuffles. The second transition from samba beat back to the original beat is spectacular. Probably one of the greatest transitions in music. So smooth and flawless.

The drummer John Bonham is keeping 3 different beats all at the same time, one for the lead singer, one for the lead guitarist and one for the bass and he's doing it all in his head. He is off the charts in his skillset. That's why Bonzo is considered the greatest of all time.

This is one of my favorite John Bonham drum songs. Your reaction was perfect... you could feel it. The thee-over-four polyrhythmic feel complex, but also incredibly infectious. I love how you stopped it right at my favorite part... right after the faster, breakdown section when the song breaks back into the triplet-over-four groove again and Bonham does that tasty fill, it's just too cool, and you picked up on that too. This song was a pretty big radio hit off of Zeppelin's last studio album (at.least the last one recorded and released when they were still together) in 1979. Sadly, John Bonham died in September of 1980 and Led Zeppelin broke up after. A lot of people may dismiss this song as too poppy but its catchiness belies its musical complexity.

I think the drummer, Bonzo was doing 2 different time signatures to get that sort of off tempo syncopated sound. My favorite part though is when Jimmy finally kicks in with a brilliant fuzz bass lead. During this time he was struggling with a serious opiate addiction, yet somehow he could still produce a masterpiece if he set his mind to it.

That's why they didn't play it live, it was too complex. It required a 12 string guitar too, as well Jones playing piano and bass....They could have hired session guys to play on stage i suppose, but i am sure that wasn't something they wanted to do. Of course John Bonham died the year after the album was released as well.
