    Great video. Loved seeing the sheep herder. I would love to do this hike, it's practically in my backyard. These old hips that I've been dragging around for the past 70 some years just won't hear of it. I still get to do my little day hikes. Happy trails!

I would have liked a little more info on location by day (i.e. where you found to camp). • @MikeWindsor
      @MikeWindsor  Před 3 lety +1

    A question, Mike. I'm planning on hiking the CT this summer and my girlfriend would like to join me for a week or so. Are there a few sections you'd recommend, bearing in mind altitude acclimatization and accessibility to a town where we can rendezvous? (She'll be flying into Denver from the east coast and is generally very fit.) Thanks in advance!

    • @MikeWindsor
      @MikeWindsor  Před 2 lety

      Hey great question Chris. Everything in the San Juans is amazing, but it’d be harder to get there from Denver. Maybe your best bet would be having her join you for the Collegiate West segment. I think you can get a bus from Denver to Leadville. Then hike the collegiate west (a stunning section!). It is high but I wouldn’t worry too much about altitude if you’re both fit, just take it easy the first day. Then catch the Bustang from Salida back to Denver.

    • @chrishennemeyer7276
      @chrishennemeyer7276 Před 2 lety

      @@MikeWindsor Many thanks, Mike. That's exactly the idea I had, mainly because of the great scenery in the Collegiates West. The question is whether that Denver-Leadville bus is a real option. I did a bit a inconclusive research but need to look into it some more.

    • @MikeWindsor
      @MikeWindsor  Před 3 lety

      Hey, gosh I don’t really remember well enough to give you a good breakdown. But I definitely did it on the cheap. The biggest expense is food. I try and avoid spending too much time in towns because it gets real easy to drop some $ when you do. Otherwise your expenses are pretty limited. Instead i worked thru the whole thing lol also did you go solo or with a group? (I did see you with people occasionally) Im thinking solo might not be the best idea when I go but im not sure i know anyone that dedicated. First step is getting a month and a half a head on all bills lol Two weeks extra just in case lol

      @MikeWindsor  Před 3 lety

      Hope you can get out there! Went solo. Hitchhiking is almost a necessity as many of the towns are not directly on trail. I suppose you could figure out a resupply plan that didn’t involve hitching, or arrange shuttles ahead of time but hitching is much easier (and fun :)

    Mike, this is a real quality video, congratulations! I like that you were not continually sticking your face in the camera (not that you have a bad face :) - and talking too much into the camera. I would much rather see the spectacular scenery and the views along the trail with your soundtrack - and you did a great job providing this to your viewers. Well done! I biked the trail last year and had a drone to capture the amazing scenery from above.

      Thanks Dave! Nice! Yeah the drone footage adds a lot, I’ve been thinking about getting one - the Mavic Mini would be reasonably sized for a thru hike.
