One basic etiquette of being human is if someone is talking to you in a language you know how to speak then you aren't supposed to be having conversation in other language. Being modern doesn't mean you've to speak in English.

Desi isn't an antonym to Modern. Someone can have traditional dressing sense and still have modern views. Desi doesn't mean they won't know basic etiquettes like how to sit in a restaurant.
