What a remarkable result at Leopardstown, one of Europe's premier racecouses, and in the feature 'Nasrullah' Handicap with a prize fund of €100,000.
16-year-old jockey Dylan Kidd only graduated from RACE, the apprentice riding school, last Friday and less than a week late wins on his first ride and in a hugely valuable race for Grade 1-winning and Classic-winning trainer Jessica Harrington. And aboard 20/1 shot Jungle Cove!
Kidd took the brave man's route here too, given he was not favourably drawn out wide in stall 12 but ultimately plotted a path to triumph in what must surely rank as one of the most notable starts to a rider's career under Rules in recent decades.
The jockey spoke to Gary O'Brien of Racing TV shortly after he was congratulated by family and friends not long after the race on a memorable night at the Foxrock track.

The Race itself was brilliantly filmed. The Commentary excellent as usual. The interview very well done to the point. The Interviewer and the 16 Year Old Dylan performing naturally after his sensational debut Victory just 10 days after getting his license. Then Jessica Harrington's bit was the icing on the cake.. EXCELLENT STORY... and greatness to come...
Well done Dylan, excellent ride. Didn't panic and waited for the gap, hands and heels. Good luck to you, here's to many more winners.
How lovely, well done & good luck for a great future
Corrupt future you mean
@@spicekid2582 Let's hope not shall we.
@@spicekid2582what you mean corrupt? This is my little cousin and he's work well hard to get to where he is. Even though he hated riding when he was much younger.
Kid -stay humble - stay focused.
Well done !
Great ride up the inside 👍 Great start for Dylan 👍
Got me an 18/1 winner there, cheers lad
That was a nice piece of riding. He saved ground, patiently read the field, properly positioned his mount and let him rip.
Hope this kid keeps his feet firmly on the ground ..... he looks a class act
Absolutely fantastic ride, I watched him from the gate, not once did I see him use a whip, rode hands and heels as they all should. Any good horse runs for the love of running, not because he is forced to. He will go a long way as a jockey. 🤗🐎
An Apprentice Jockey are not allowed to use his whip until he reached around 50 rides i think.
Lovely story incredible achievement!
Best of luck for the future young man!💥🙃
Started with a Bang! Keep it going! 👍🏻
Absolutely brilliant
Reminded me after watching many times Rich Strikes superb run to come through on the rails to win the Kentucky Derby .Young jockey with a 'lifetime' experience of ponies and horses made that horse extend his stride to win just using hands and heels.
He could teach Jamie Spencer a thing or two.
Jessica must have got her magic carrot delivery in
Dont think you can teach Jamie Spencer anything lol he's full on shite I wouldn't back him in an actual donkey race 🤣
I could see him just edge of the fence by the 4 and when he saw that was where the traffic jam was happening he bided his time and Jungle Cove was strong through the line. Good seat and he showed he did no panic when he was hoping for the inside run, which eventually came. Well done young man, and hopefully many winners to come. That winner looked good to, might follow it.
Congratulations Dylan, he's a good head on his shoulder , the first of many winner !
Winners, hopefully.
Rode like a pro...kept his cool throughout... awesome
The trainer probably said....you don't have a prayer but we like you and think the experience will help you get better.hes now on cloud nine it's a beautiful thing.
Much congratulations
Good on you lad , keep the head down and your feet on the ground and you will go places .
Brilliant Dylan
A ruby Walch in the making welldone Dylan all the best for the future.
It's not easy to ride a horse if you keep your feet on the ground 😆
Congratulations 👏🎉
Quality 😊
This Kidd can ride !
FairPlay to the lad
He didn't hit the horse as far as I could see which is great, hands and heals when he could have easily used the whip like the other jockeys were doing down the straight. Good on you young man.
Good luck mate keep your feet on the ground the world is your oyster
This was a good run. I bed this horse and got a very high quote.
Wow,, against much more experienced riders his whip was just for show i believe,, very nice ride
How well does Jessica look!!! The sun certainly suits this lovely woman
Well done ,Dylan
not many lads can say they won there first race ,but u made it look easy ,got a bit of luck ,but good luck for the future

South African punter and we had a champion sire called Jungle Cove so it was a fiver on Jungle Cove for me .On the same day Wagga Wagga won at an English course also named after good S.A horse so It was a good day just following names
And, as far as seen, never used the stick & he certainly won’t be a recipient of same! Bravo
Exactly. Best jockeys hardly need the whip.
Quite. Also led to wondering on diff between ‘stick’ vs ‘whip’ .. vs ‘crop’ …
Had £20 e/w on this so was chuffed , but watching it you couldnt notice this was this lads 1 st ride looked very cool .
What price?

Well done but Casanova has to win surely - just for the name alone!!!!
Well done him
I'd like to think he would still get praise if he didn't win but still had a good ride
Better than what the young riders in NZ are like, they can hardly sit on a horse here 😂
I had to turn on the subtitles.
Weird how things like this happen. Like the guy winning the Grand National on his last ever ride
👀
games made for these things to happen
Dylan is just a Kidd
Get himself some of Frankie and Oisin's special party powder with his share of that.
He looks like he has been bread to ride!
Roll , loaf , bloomer ? Sliced , unsliced ? We KNEAD more info about his breading.
He may of won a €100,000 race, but being an apprentice jockey he WON'T get any of the winnings, as apprentice jockeys don't get paid. Depending on the owners and trainers, the apprentice jockeys have to pay there own meeting entry fees usually £80-150 a meeting race day.
"She only said" , well that's the first time i ever heard a jockey not referring to a trainer by Mrs or Mr .
I know dylan
To be called a jockey you must have successfully completed a 3-year training and also be 50x winner in class A-races. With 16 years he might be still a trainee.
We call them apprentice in the USA. They get a substantial weight advantage in most races, idk about a stakes race. Riding light gives then the opportunity to win while learning the sport & get paid enough to weather the storm when their apprenticeship ends.
Rode like Dettori should have ridden Stradivarius in the gold cup hahahahaha!!!!
He used my cousins saddle
Good fr him, didn't Lester piggott ride winner on his 1st mount a bit younger,,??quote unquote, but bk to this kid ,ye,more to come I'll bet,,I rest, jcvw
.........standard Irish racing 😂😂
Well done, son.
Any idea what the S.P. was?
G8 ride by young Dylan.....
He should retire now!
Not a clue. Possibly the Racing Post could help. 🙄
18.1
Made some mistakes and was a bit out of sync a few times, but a good job anyway from the lad.
a bit out of sync made mistakes hes 16 first ever ride gave it a peach of a ride now go change your contact lenses
They allow him to win, thats racing for you
Could be another Pigott in the making
Easy now. No one can match Pigott. Well done to the lad all the same.
Wouldn’t get too carried away 😂😂
No pressure then😛
* Piggott
sounded just like lester did not understand a word he said
A dodgy Irish horse race, nothing new here
The trainer probably said....you don't have a prayer but we like you and think the experience will help you get better.hes now on cloud nine it's a beautiful thing.
