    @eduardokesslerborges7179 Před 3 lety +12

    Neil is considered the best drummer ever and an excellent lyricist. The thing about rush they think more is more. Always challenging themselves. In Neil's Drum Setup, he had eletronic, drum, regular drum, percussion, and even keyboard. The whole drum spins, according what he wants to play.
    Geddy can play Bass, keyboards and sings at the same time, according what he wants, one of the best bassists ever.
    Alex is so underrated, he is very skillfull and instinctive, he always shines, so full of feelings. you can´t overshadow Geddy and Neil.

  • @JeromeDukes
    @JeromeDukes Před 3 lety +7

    Neil Peart has penned some of the greatest lyrics in the history of rock. The insight and depth of his thoughts, speaks to many and is a major reason (besides their musicianship) why, Rush is a beloved band. There're many great Rush tunes with incredible lyrics on many topics that are relevant today. Two song that are just beautifully written is "The Pass and Losing it", like Bravado it's the softer side of Rush but the words just speak to you. More upbeat songs from a rhythm pov, you can look at "Subdivision and Red Sector A" and from a political pov there's "The Weapon and Witch Hunt". Then you have the Rush epics mostly pre 80's, try "Xanadu and Natural Science". You also have story telling songs like "2112 and The Necromancer". Lastly, if you want to understand why Neil has a drum kit that surrounds him, check the live video of his drum solo in Frankfurt.
    Thx enjoyed the reaction, have fun if you decide to dive into the Rush rabbit hole. Cheers.

    Oh... just wait until you start exploring the lyrics in their mid 80's - mid 90's catalog!
    "Spirits fly on dangerous missions
    Imaginations on fire
    Focused high on soaring ambitions
    Consumed in a single desire"
    Or...
    "All of us get lost in the darkness
    Dreamers learn to steer by the stars
    All of us do time in the gutter
    Dreamers turn to look at the cars"
    Or still...
    "I hear the sound of gunfire at the prison gate
    Are the liberators here, do I hope or do I fear?
    For my father and my brother, it's too late
    But I must help my mother stand up straight"
    Other than being the world's best drummer, Neil Peart was an absolute fucking genius with words.

  • @christophercheck1590
    @christophercheck1590 Před 3 lety +2

    Neil's lyrics are spectacular. "The Pass" is a real gripping tune about suicide. "Territories" is a piece about nationalism and patriotism. "Subdivisions" is a great statement about conformity and social pressure. "The Garden" is all about leaving a legacy (fitting, as it was the last song on their last album). They even did a couple of love songs ("Ghost of a Chance," "The Speed of Love"). "Ghost Rider" and "Afterimage" about dealing with losing loved ones, "Vapor Trail" is about the transience of life.
    A broad range of subjects over their career. I think it's one of the reasons they got a reputation as a "nerdy" band. They weren't just singing about partying and girls like most other rock bands. They had opinions on stuff. They wanted to tackle actual issues. It makes the music difficult for some people, because it comes across as pretentious, but for a lot of fans, that willingness to write outside the box is what made them special and unique.

    If you like thoughtful lyrics, there’s a treasure-trove with Rush. Closer to the Heart is a good example from early in their career, and The Garden from their last album. RIP Professor Neil Peart! Rush is one iconic power trio! Another comment mentioned Neil's drum solos. My suggestion is to react his solo at a concert in Frankfurt, Germany. Out of his all drums solos, this one is most iconic! I was fortunate enough to see Rush in concert when they did their Time Machine tour in West Palm Beach in 2010. Neil did a version of his drum solos. Alex, guitarist retired from touring. Geddy Lee is still involved in music. Last time, he stepped in for his late friend, Chris Squire of the band, Yes. Yes were inducted into Rock Hall of Fame in 2017. He jammed with Yes during the ceremony.

    2:45 I'll spare you the specifics of Neil's kit, but it basically works like this; in the front he has a regular acoustic kit, and in the back he has an electronic kit he uses for his drum solo every show. The drum stand can rotate 360 degrees, so they just rotate that kit in front of him when he's ready.
    You can spot it because the acoustic kit has regular brass cymbals while the electronic kit has black rubber cymbals.

    They used to rotate it 180 degrees during the drum solo (there's a video of such a solo from Frankfurt on youtube).

    The entire Roll the Bones album is some of Neil's best lyrical writing. The whole concept of the album is about taking chances and letting the chips fall as they may, and even how random chance may dictate where we start from, but doesn't mean that that is where we'll stay. It was easily one of the top three albums of the final 20 years of their run. Not a bad song on it.

    Neil's drum kit is basically two separate kits: an elaborate traditional kit in the front, and behind him is a kit consisting of mostly electronic drums (for producing a wide variety of sounds for various songs). As a bonus, he has a set of Midi pads, which give him xylophone sounds among other things. (long ago, this was an actual xylophone in his kit, but as Neil himself was fond of saying "old drums are great, but NEW drums are BETTER!"). I agree with the other commenters that watching his Frankfurt solo (readily available on CZcams) showcases all of the bells-and-whistles in his drum setup, including sounds he can "trigger" by hitting certain drums/cymbals. It also shows why he's considered one of the best ever. Enjoy.

    Beautiful song! Great reaction ladies.
    If lyrics are your thing, then look no further than Neil Peart, Rush's drummer and primary lyricist. The 70's output is more sci-fi oriented, but late 70's, into the 80's, he really began writing with a social consciousness.
    Where to go from here? I HIGHLY suggest checking out Subdivisions (you may appreciate how you felt in your teenage years with this one - especially if you were a misfit or nerd!)
    2112 (looking at a dystopian future where music and freewill are prohibited - it's a 23 minute 'epic' journey!)
    Neil wrote a trilogy that deals with the 'darker' side of the human condition. These tracks are:
    Witch Hunt, The Weapon & The Enemy Within (known as the Fear trilogy) - very poignant and applicable in our society today!
    Limelight (on the difficulty of dealing with stardom - Neil has always been shy & a somewhat reluctant 'celebrity')
    Red Sector A (dealing with the Holocaust - Geddy Lee's (bassist/vocalist) parents were holocaust survivors)
    The Spirit Of Radio, Freewill, Tom Sawyer, Manhattan Project, Mystic Rhythms, The Garden...
    That's just for starters. I shied away from their earlier stuff - lyrics were still amazing, but less relatable, perhaps.
    Enjoy!!

    It's basically two drum kits back to back, for different songs and styles. It rotates to bring one or the other to the front.

    I'll echo other comments in saying if you are curious about Neil's setup, check out Neil's solo. You can pic any of them online to watch, they are all always on point (Neil doesn't miss a beat, lol, ever!) but Frankfurt is popular. Also I'm sure it's been said already in the comments but Neil wrote probably 97% of the lyrics for Rush. He's intelligent, well read, and enjoyed writing. He has written, I believe, maybe eight books?! He was a very interesting enigma to me and probably mist. Quiet and reserved, and preferred to stay out of the Limelight (lol, Rush song), so Alex and Geddy did mostly all the public promoting Rush and meet and greets and such. Even, at the end of their shows, Neil would stand up, wave and dip out, while Alex and Geddy said goodnight and bowed. I've seen them around 10 times and only once did I see Neil come out from behind the drums and join the other two at the end of a shoe and that was their very last show on their last tour. Bittersweet.

    You really should react to this Neil Peart drum solo, using the whole setup: czcams.com/video/LWRMOJQDiLU/video.html
    It's a masterclass!! Also two of their most famous songs if you want: "Spirit of the Radio" and "Tom Sawyer"

    The last song, that they usually ended with, was "Working Man". This whole concert from start to finish is fantastic. and Neil's last name is pronounced as (Peert)

    His last name is pronounced P-Ear-t. Like saying ear. Yes Neil's drumset rotates during his drum solo. And Neil has been writing the lyrics for Rush since 1974/75.

    Neil took your favorite lyric from an author named John Barth. Thought a bookworm might like to know that. 😉

    You need to react to Xanadu from the live video Exit Stage Left and also 2112. For 2112, I recommend the studio version because it's 20+ minutes long and most if not all live versions are not complete. There is a version of 2112 with illustrations which help tell the story and that is cool too.
