All I can say is that Eric and the rest of Team Hush hunt so hard on all of the tags that they get. They might not always tag out but the put in all of the work to get a chance to tag out. I just love their dedication to giving us great videos of their hunting trips.

    Eric,
Never met you, probably never will.I am a SE Whitetail hunter for 40 years and 319 whitetail compound bow kills, almost all public. (Not that I wouldn't buy you a beer.)
But that bull at the water hole HURT!!! I felt it. Been there, done that with big whitetails.
But then, if it was easy to bow hunt, nobody would gun hunt!
    GREAT SERIES!

Man that was an awesome series, really enjoyed the footage. You managed to capture the humbling nature of an unsuccessful hunt, just felt real genuine. I almost threw in the towel on my mule deer hunt this year after so many fruitless miles hiked, groups of deer bumped and spooked but managed to pull it together right at the end. I'm definitely novice in this lifestyle but to experience the full spectrum of emotions on a hunt has drawn me in more than ever before and I feel like you've captured alot of that in this episode. Lookin forward to future content!

Also for me, cutting my Videos is the time, going back and remember every second of the hunt..only one word "great"! Best wishes from Austria/Europe and the #woodwalkerwildlifeandhunting team

I’ve been hunting elk in Colorado, I live in Midwest, for 33 years now, public ground OTC. Unfortunately now at 66 I’m not able to run and gun as I used to. I can certainly relate to infilled tags. Eric, I am living the rush/grind/ adventure through you. Thanks for the great video and kudos to your tenacity.

@@davidsbielawski Elk are literally everywhere in CO..... My best advice is to pick a few areas & visit them in the summer and get a feel for the land. & Don't worry about seeing other people - Colorado has been flooded with hikers and backpackers for decades now... Hunters are small in numbers compare to them.

We as elk hunters know all to well how frustrating it is to be in that situation and not have a shot. I truly believe that allowing that animal to walk instead of rushing that shot or just not having a good shot is the best choice. Hate it when your friends or even family say oh yeah I would have made that shot. Sorry just can't do it. Being ethical about it and not letting that elk suffer to me is the goal. Great job Eric. Again love the series.

Man Eric, Loved that Colorado series as this is my home state man. Your trials and ups and downs you show it all, the grit and grime. My pops told me a long time ago you know there are never failures in life only lessons! If you treat a failure like a lesson and learn from it, it'll never get you again. You learned some lessons on this Colorado trip and look forward in the coming years to the Colorado Redemption series. Make it happen brother! May your arrows fly straight and your bullets hit hard! Good Luck Brother!

Of course I'm still watching. I watched every minute of this video. It reminded me of the majority of my hunts. LOL I love the videos that Hushin and Born and Raised make. Health and finances prevent me from getting out there anymore, and I miss deer/elk camp terribly. Since I came across Hushin videos and later Born and Raised, I have been able to live vicariously through your videos, so good, bad or ugly, keep making them. They mean more to m e than you will ever know.

Such a feeling of defeat! I have decided that from now on I will make the commitment to hunt all day and give it my all. Great series even if the outcome wasn't a punched tag. Reminds me of this season for me out of state... my friend and I hunted whitetails on public land in OH for the first. Lots of sightings, lots of close encounters but no meat in the freezer from OH. We still had a great season! Time together as friends, making memories, while spending time in God's beautiful creation! What could be better?!?! Keep up the good work and great content! And... there's always next time!

I absolutely felt that dejection a couple of weeks ago. Took my bow out for my first ever bow hunt (whitetail/mule deer). Had no shots within 50 yards, just didn't feel confident shooting that far. The rush was incredible though.
I did shoot a buck on the last evening with my rifle, but we were unable to locate him. It crushed me man. I'm as confident as I can be without seeing a dead buck that he is dead, but I hate the thought that maybe I did only injure him.

Hi Eric another hunt over with, mate this hunt was full of what not to do, as well as things that should be done. If that makes any sense, we all learn from every hunt we do, plus you have learned a lot from this hunt. I have watched you go and do your thing, normally successfully, so this hunt really opened your eyes, and added a few things to your hunting expertise. Eric of all the people I watch you are in the top three for awesome, so next hunt look out Elk. Be good, stay healthy, remain Covid free. Cheers from the land down under.

I enjoyed it. I ate a cow elk tag in Nevada this year after 6 days of hunting. I saw a lot of big bulls, and I got in easy muzzleloader range of some of them, but I just couldn't find a cow. The closest I got was finding one cow with a bull and pulling the hammer back on her, but she never gave me a shot. I know how you feel about learning more from defeat than victory.

I learned this year to not put off replacing equipment that needs to be replaced. Long story short, my arrows were too short for my bow, but if I indexed my broadheads correctly, I didn't have an issue. Had a very large whitetail come in broadside at 30 yards and when I drew, the broadhead wasn't turned correctly and the blade hit my riser and popped the nock out of my arrow. Haven't saw a shooter since then. New arrow/broadhead setups are already in the works for the end of season.

Colorado Archery Elk Hunter here and I'm a total water hunt junky....try some scent on the wallow (elk bomb)....I've had them show up and wait for the cow or you can throw it down after close encounter because its aromatic it will cover ground quick. Hunt first light to 1-2pm then ground hunt high saddle with south facing aspens. Valley with pine on 1 side and aspen on the other are primo. Chasing creeks up and finding source can lead to good spots even if its not but 2ft x 2ft of water. Bulls scent the top so it goes all the way down water source which increases coverage!!! 9 more months!!!

Great video series. As a whitetail hunter from the East coast it was awesome to see elk hunted from a saddle - gave me some ideas. I spend a lot of time with a saddle and you could realize a lot of efficiencies in your setup. Recommend looking at using an aider to reduce your stick count and a strap based gear/ bow hanger to reduce the metallic hangers you are carrying - save yourself a few pounds. Keep it up!

Keep it up Eric. I love how you show the highs and lows of hunting these challenging animals in such magnificent country. I have had to eat Colorado elk tag soup way too many times (especially if you ask my wife), but I have to keep going back! The hunt planned for this year fell through, but I'm hoping to get back out there next September. Good luck on the next one!!

Watching you and Matt hunt Colorado this year has made me make the final decision to hunt Colorado next year! It will be my first time not hunting washington since I was a little guy! Thanks for the inspiration from you and the rest of the HUSH crew! You said it best its the times when you don't tag out that you learn the most.

I must say, I feel this series a lot more than most. Been on 2 elk hunts and had tag soup at the end of both. It’s kinda nice to see how you adapt and try different things along the way when it’s just not coming together. Enjoyed the videos.

Thanks for bringing us along. You was so successful. You done what 90% of all hunters dream about. Punching tags is a bonus, but the hunt is where its at. Having the time to enjoy it is a blessing. Thanks for the entertainment.

Man Eric as I watched this video I couldn’t help but relive some memories of my own solo archery Henry mnt tag I had a few years ago. I agree with you 100% on the most frustrating hunts we learn the most, and I even learn from watching you grind through your hunts. Thanks for all the footage you’ve shared this season, hope you have a great Christmas as well.

I think when u used the term "Top Pin" I couldn't stop thinking about that. Today's equipment doesn't market us into "Top Pin" skills, but for me, it is what I love the most about archery, the most satisfying achievement is to be in that wheel house. Eric I think you relay your passion for the outdoors in a perfect format.

Ive told on here what i think of you as a person. Your dedication in second to none. I know the footage we watch is only a fraction of your hard work out there trying to tag out. So i feel your frustration. Keep up then good work and tx a ton for sharing that with us.

Watched the wholes series! Was a very relatable hunt! I have an area that kicked my butt this past season for elk as well and I have a vendetta to go back and be successful there. I did learn a lot about the country and how the elk use it just like you guys did in this series! Good luck and can't wait it see it happen for both of us!

Tough hunt man! Keep your chin up! I’ve been there done that. There’s nothing worse than getting down mentally on a hunt and trying to turn that around solo is really tough!
I just came back from Colorado deer hunting and brought a tag home. It was my choice as I held out for a big mature 180” type deer. Had many chances at other deer but had a goal and stuck with it. My buddies all tagged out and it was fun to watch them be successful!
    Lessons learned:
-I need to communicate better and help my younger hunters know why I’m thinking rather than assuming they know what I would do. My buddy missed a nice mature 3x3 heavy 25” wide buck possibly because I didn’t tell him more what to do in the situation.
-keep in killer shape for the hunt! The mountain seemed smaller this year because I was in great shape. The mountain wasn’t intimidating at all!
-I need to upgrade my side by side: the roads beat up me this year and I’m sure I took some years off my machine during this hunt! (It is 15 years old!)
    - I could shoot more in real hunting situations. I plan to hunt a few times before this next year so I’ve got that much more confidence in myself with my rifle.
    - have fun and don’t get frustrated!!!
    Thanks for the videos guys!!!

I had a similar experience this year in Colorado. Sat a lot of water, missed at 30 yards on a good bull and didn’t notch my tag. Learned a lot about not rushing in the moment and settling my pin before releasing my arrow. If I would have slowed down, taken a breath and settled my pin I’d have filled mar archery tag this year.

New sub here. It's nice to see a hunt that doesn't turn out like all the others. Not that I didn't want to see you stick one, but nice to see the struggles of solo hunting and solo filming your hunt. I think it brings the expectations down to reality rather than what hunting shows often depict which is massive bulls, bucks, etc taken with what seems like little effort. Thank you for showing how it often times can be when hunting. I plan on heading to CO next year for an OTC bull elk tag. Taking my bow and now my saddle will be added to the luggage. First time seeing elk being hunted from a saddle in the mountains. Maybe I'll see you there. Awesome story you put together here.

Great series, man! Enjoyed it very much. At least you were out there giving it your best. Look man, I hunt elk in regions that the elk are very scarce and I don't have big dollars to hunt outta state so I take what I can get. I havent tagged out in years but as long as I'm with my brothers were having a GREAT time! We all great the knowledge of being out there and loving what the creator has blessed us with. I didn't like the music much, got me depressed, lol! I guess all I can say is after all that you endured there was awesome! Harvesting the animal is the cherry on top. You're doing what you love. Be blessed, bro!

Man that sucks!! I had that happen several years ago on a 190 plus buck. I was in a blind, but we stared at each other at 11 yards until I couldn’t hold my draw any longer (seemed like 10 minutes) and he spooked. He kinda had his dipped like they do, but looking right at me so I couldn’t get the straight on shot unless it was between the eyes lol. You’ve put in the work and will be rewarded eventually. Keep up the good work!

Being diabetic I switch to low carb tortilla shells and eat all my brawts and moose dogs in a wrap, took some time to get used to it but don't miss bread hardly, for burgers I found a low carb wheat thins so I'm not totally bread free, also next mile meals offer great low carb meals for dehydrated foods,

Loved watching your hunt and like BRO the fact that you guys show the grind and unfilled tags.
I had a coveted limited entry tag in E WA this year and on Sept 2nd had 4 bulls move up a draw and bed below me in big sage. The two 350” bulls were behind sage at 60 yds, while a smaller 6 was at 71 yards facing away and I had his whole back visible. I thought long about cow calling and shooting as they stood up but had been warned that these elk bolt at the sound of a call. After 30 min I had a tickle in my throat and I could not stand and shoot because I would have been busted as I was just behind a small sagebrush. I quickly decided to shoot the visible bull from my knees....not as stable as standing, and I shot low and right hitting him right behind the shoulder but a hard down angle. He had blood dripping from that perfect crease....but it was just a flesh wound. Not realizing it was a flesh wound shot 2 more times at long distance. Saw him the next day and he was fine. Lesson was, cow call and get a good broadside shot, and two get a good solid shooting position. 3 weeks later, after hunting 19days, I stalked into 31 yards of two bedded 5 points and cow called, they stood and I made a perfect shot and watched him die 100 yds away. Was thrilled with the bull I shot, but will always remember the opportunity missed at a 350” bull
