Hi, from the 🇬🇧 2018 I had at age 58, my ascending aorta and aortic root replaced and repair to my aortic valve .
I took early retirement from my high stress job .
I've always been active in all sports and always had dogs. I currently have 4 cockers who need regular walks .
Plus, I work 2 days at my local professional football club on the groundstaff, which involves manual labour a lot of walking .
My belief is if your relatively fit before surgery, just carry on with your life. mine came as a complete shock .
But on the flip side, if you're obese or have never been very active, I guess you'd need to be careful, take care ❤ everyone.

Hi from Canada. I am living with an ascending aortic aneurysm of 4.9cm. I have been managing since getting BP under control but am considering elective surgery. I am very active like to bike, hike, run and workout and dissection is always at the forefront every time I am active. My surgeon will go ahead with elective surgery once the aorta reaches 5.0-5.5cm in the interim it is a wait and manage situation. Jack and Carmen do you know your aortic size at dissection? Any thoughts?

Hi Jerry. No one rule on intervention for surgery. 5.0 cm is a rule of thumb but depends on family history/connective tissue disorders. It’s “joint decision making” with your surgeon. Best advice I learned was “live your life” and “get a second opinion” particularly at a high volume aorta center.
