jellyfish is so silly yet has a feeling of deflation towards the end, which is the perfect transition into the introspective and beautiful drunken wallowing helplessness that is empire ants.
Honestly. Listening to it with that in mind makes it even more melancholic.

The transition into empire ants makes the whole song 💗 love the contrast in feelings between the two
The transition gives the feeling of some sort of tripping sequence high into a hangover as the hit of some drug dies down and leaves you empty.

For me, these 2 songs feel like one long song about consumerism and corporate greed. Superfast Jellyfish describe the marketing manipulation that companies use to sell their subpar products to consumers and the effect the constant consumption has on someone's lifestyle. While Empire Ants describes the feeling of being a factory worker making said products. Feeling like you are just cog part of a bigger machine that can be replaced. Especially in Asia where workers are taken advantage of since they don't have much choice. Just what I think of whenever I listen to this song.

This album has few great transitions between songs. Funny that this is only getting noticed now. Demon Days does this a few times as well. Just goes to show how much thought is not only put into the songs, but the album as a whole.
It's what separates a good album from a great album; something I think Damon and co haven't quite captured on the works since Plastic Beach imo. Song Machine Vol. 1 has some great songs on it, but as an album, it doesn't have those conceptual and aesthetic threads tying it all together. Humanz and The Now Now before that just don't have the same quality of songs
@@chosone2 The only songs I remember from Humanz having a transition and hitting are Andromeda and Busted and Blue.
@C PD I think the main problem with humanz is just that there were too many extra tracks on it. Its not that the songs were bad, but since the album had like 20+ listings on it (some of them being atmospheric filler), it just became too hard to keep track of. Sorta like having too much of a good thing.
It mightve also been a bit too collab heavy, but I also appreciate the fact that other artists get to contribute and leave their mark.

My favorite transition is between the last three songs of the album. To binge is a couple arguing and close to breaking up at the beach as the song travels through towards the ocean to the cloud of unknowing. Past this cloud is a little dinky boat with pirate jet

1:21 makes me wonder if this album is set on a post-apocalyptic Earth and/or in a future ravaged by consumerism. I've always kind of gotten that vibe from "Plastic Beach" , but this really helped solidify that hypothesis.
According to the lore it's written by Murdoc, who's a pretty twisted man. And the name plastic beach is because it mostly takes place on a trash island. But god this is a cool theory
Tbh Demon Days had more of that post-apocalyptic theme than Plastic Beach
