I'm giving this a thumbs up. Love the way you present and how this super simple example shows how stats work. I can and will use it to inform my colleagues. A better understanding will lead to better development and maintenance. thx again!
As I understand it, sql server can keep statistics on columns that aren't mentioned in any index of a given table. If that is the case and I rebuild the indexes of the table, does that necessarily update statistics built for columns that aren't mentioned in any index?
Has anybody let you know that there is an error in your script? When you add the red backed 2 you say "four" but there are actually 5. You might want to correct that in some way?
Nice explanation as usual. Which SQL Server version did you use please? I don't get 1 for the estimated number of rows after the 2 columns indexes are created on SQL 2014.
Brent...where is the legend coming from: that if indexes have fragmentation above 3% it won't be used? I remember reading this somewhere 1000 years ago. I think this was the source for "reindex" constantly. Is it just a unfortunate coincidence?
Hello, mister Brent! Would you mind if i translate your videos about statistics to russian and place it on CZcams? Of course there will be so many links to your original video, as i can place😀 Your video about statistics is amazing and so many people who don't know english can watch it if it will be in russian
Wow amazing. Brent is one of the best teachers, and he's always a pleasure to watch. Clear, concise, and on point. Great stuff as always. Many thanks.

For clarity, at 3:55 the example is that there are now five of the cards, not four.
It's amazing how Brent can visualize technical problems nicely.
Awww, thanks!
what a lovely way of explanation
Brent you are all ways great!!
Just when I was drifting off he says 'not like how you are drifting off in this webcast'. LOL! Love the presentation!

Great video.
So is there anything that can be done about the outliers?
Keep watching the rest of the videos in the series to learn. Cheers!

hey Brent , I love your card deck... where can we buy it ?
Hahaha, thanks. Microsoft gave those away a few years back - I don't think they've ever been for sale. Might check eBay.
Morning Brent
