    Dan Hooker also said that a bunch of ppl turned down the fight with Islam when he stepped up - he said he was sure the same thing happened this time. Today on DC and RC Islam confirmed that UFC called a bunch of ppl who were ranked/available and no one agreed. This shouldn't be too surprising tho bc Islam has been trying to fight ranked guys for years and almost all of them turn down the fight (and this would be with a full training camp). Dana and other ppl have said Islam is the most avoided guy in the division bc he is such a tough matchup.

However, this time, I will apologise because some months ago, I “read” you in a juvenile way which prompted a response from me that was not called for, nor did it do me justice. Since then, I have regretted letting my frustrations cloud the way I expressed myself. Unfortunately, I live and work in Crete, Greece, so there’s no way to meet-up and treat you to a beer, or whatever. Therefore, I will say, as a 57 year old, I should’ve known that sometimes I make mistakes and I misjudged you. It would’ve been an honour to shake your hand and say “Thank you” for doing everything that you do to remind those that desperately need so, that we are men, and with that comes responsibly, and pride in being the best man you can be. Anybody just watch this story in the ‘beige frequency” documentary on Jon? This was when Dana called Greg Jackson a sport killer for advising Jones not to take the short notice fight against Chael. And then Jackson and Jones thought that it was a set up since Chael had been training with Dan Henderson the entire time Hendo was in camp for that jones fight. And then Henderson came out and said he knew he couldn’t fight weeks before but never said anything because he thought he could heal before the fight. So they thought Chael and Dan cooked up a plan to pressure Jones into taking the Chael fight and Chael would be ready. The only reason I couldn't take that story seriously is because Dan Henderson was sort of a prick and I couldn't see him giving any teammate that opportunity over his own priorities.

    I bet they didn’t even call hardly any of the top ten and here’s why:
    In Islam’s interview he name dropped some guys to build himself up but he’s purposely ignoring the logical business side of things for why he didn’t get a bigger name. The UFC is a business and it’s very important to look at it through this lens.
    Michael Chandler is a huge draw. Dana dropped a bag to get him over to the UFC, he’s not going to have him fight at the Apex in front of 50 people for free instead of on a major PPV. The same goes with Tony Ferguson. Tony hadn’t fought on a non PPV since 2016 - he’s a huge draw. Secondly, they are working on a fight between those two to fight in front of a large crowd. The UFC would rather have Tony go out in style instead of losing 4 straight get ragdolled by another stylistic nightmare.
    Before Beneil’s injury, it was widely published everywhere that RDA’s fight with Fiziev was being moved to the co-main of Masvidal and Colbys UFC 272 massive card, so those two are off the table. Islam knew this and but didn’t mention that probably to make RDA look weak and build himself up.
    Conor is obviously off the table and Dan Hooker moved to 145 and is fighting Arnold Allen in London.
    Gaethje and Oliveira fight in May for the title. I doubt they called DP if they’re serious in trying to book the Diaz fight.
    Arman Tsarukyan is fighting on Islam’s card. Diego Ferriera has a rib injury he’s dealing with from the Gamrot fight.
    I’m not saying any of these guys were pussy and would turn down the fight, but I don’t think any of them were actually contacted for these reasons. If Islam wanted to fight a bigger name, he should’ve really look at moving his date but I doubt the UFC didn’t want to have back to back cards of scrapping its main event and needed Islam as the headliner.
    Simple math. That leaves the names of Gregor Gillespie, Mateusz Gamrot and Brad Riddell.
    Gillespie would be such a difficult fight and he’s been whining to fight bigger names and higher ranked guys. I guarantee you they called him but he turned it down.

      The problem with this is that for most of those people fighting Islam was a huge opportunity. Beating Islam puts you right near the title shot. Tony and Chandler are both on losing streaks and can use that. Even a loss to Islam wouldn't have hurt their positions much cause this was on short notice. This goes double for RDA and Fiziev and anybody else.

    • @fordbranan9948
      @fordbranan9948 Před 2 lety +1

      @@geniusphoenix1 I get the benefits of fighting Islam sure, but let’s be real. Tony’s title chasing days are over, and the UFC would prefer he doesn’t go out by getting ragdolled by a horrible stylistic match up he’s seen the last two fights. They’d rather have him go out in style and have a chance of not losing 4 straight. RDA and Fiziev already have contracts signed to fight as a co main on a huge PPV card which is a great deal. In chaels words, fight the easiest guy for the most amount of money on the best placement of the card, ya know? Islam in a main event is a great spotlight, but a co main on a massive PPV card in front of thousands plus million TV viewers is different than in front of 50 people. If Dana called RDA for the Islam fight and abandon his contract with Fiziev, now the UFC would be stuck without a great co main for 272 and hardly any time to fill it. It sucks but it is what it is. I totally get your point though.
