Thank you so much!! Glad to help! ☺️
Thank you so very much for this. I am re-watching this (for the 3rd time) b/c I got a new wax melt mold.
Congratulations on the pregnancy! Gurl you are glowing in your latest videos!!!
Thank you Ladybug! I was creating some new labels in AI and I looked at the grams and thought, “that can’t be correct, even in grams?” So this video came along at the most synchronistic time! Thank you, thank you!🙏🏻. Much love to you, your family and anyone who might read this! 🙏🏻❤️🕊
You just saved me today!! Thank you! I was trying to find the wax fill line in ounces for my new jar! 🎉🎉🎉
Thank you for making this video. I’ve been putting off making a certain candle because I wasn’t sure how to figure this out 😆
Thankyou for the tip, makes it easy for random jars
I LOVE my Replica and surfaces!
Thanks very much from a very cold and wet London
This is the best way to measure your waz weight nice and easy thanks for the tutorial
Thank you Erica 🙏🏻
brilliant!
I absolutely love your videos! I’m just starting out and your tips help tremendously!! Thank you.
So glad!! ☺️
Thank you 😊😊😊😊
Thank you so much ❤ your the greatest. 😊
Glad it was helpful! ☺️
With this calculation in mind, what is the FO calculation?
where to you get the figure .86 when doing water fill method and would that apply to all candles regardless of size
hey erica so i am having trouble figuring out how much waxx to weigh hout if i am doing 5 candles all at once and i use 8oz clear straight sided jars from unline
Candlescience has these videos and explains that you will have some left over wax because density of water is different from wax. And they're right. I had lots of wax left over. But everything came out okay.
You will need more containers.
Okay you mentioned this! Awesome!
Where did the.86 come from??
This was a great tip but can you explain why we’re using 0.86 specifically? Or can you explain the relevance of 0.86 to the equation?
It’s the difference in density between wax and water :)
Hi erica thank you for this video its something I've wondered about 🙂 massive help thank you...have been watching your videos for a while now love them! Im in Australia...
Hi what is the 0.86 multiplication from ... is it always that number im confused lol. Thank you in advance
0.86 is the difference in density between wax and water :)
Won’t adding in the FO change the calculation?
I've used it for my jars, but do you think it'll work for silicone molds for pillars? Also, have you done a "How to calculate the cost per candle?" yet? Really hope you did 🙏🏾
I’m sure it would! It’s just about finding the wax weight needed to make the candle!
And I have some older videos talking about calculating cost of goods but I need to make a new updated one!
@Memory Box Candle Co OK, thank you so much, Erica. I'll check them out, but I'll look out for a newer video whenever you decide to make one.
@@MemoryBoxCandleCodoesn’t that change when you add the FO?
What about the weight of the F/O?
Thank you so much for the calculations.
I have a doubt.
If I wanted to make a candle of weight 150gms ( approx 5.4 oz) as per your calculation I will get only approx 4.6oz of melted wax. Am I correct?
I am starting a candle business out here. In the lable I have to mention the oz or gms or ml whatever I am doing.
I have a big confusion in this.
Which weight I should mention in my brand label?
The actual weight of the jar or the exact weight of my melted wax?
Kindly advice.
Thank you
Weight of the wax.
Thank you so much ❤
👍
Is this the same if you’re doing grams and not ounces?
Yes!
Came here looking for this Q&A! Thank you both!
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, your formula is perfect but my scale doubled my measurements so I ended up with excess wax/fragrance 😞
Would this differ depending on the type of wax you use?
Nope :) the only wax I’m not sure about is gel wax but I’m assuming it may still work the same?
Where you get the 0.86 ??
Hi Mike from London here.Great video but I dont understand where or how you got the 8.6 from?
It’s 0.86 and it’s the difference in density between wax and water :)
and how do you calculate it in grams?
The exact same way as you would do in ounces! Multiple the number in grams by .86 :)
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo thank you Erica 😉
What about wax melts
You can do the same thing with wax melts! Put your empty clamshell mold on the scale and pour water into it and then multiple that number by .86
I've learned using 86% can be pretty inaccurate. I have used waxes that end up being anywhere from 81% to 94% density and in a large candle, using an avg of 86 can lead to leftover or not enough wax. I always figure out and know the density of the wax I'm using, but once you know that, then you can use the formula.
I also think it depends on the density of your wax, because it didn't workout for me either
How do you figure out the density of your wax?
@@therealitea I weigh 1/4 cup or 2 oz of liquid wax. I weigh out a little more than 2 oz of non melted wax and melt it down. With a 1/4 cup measuring cup on a scale, pour the melted wax until the 1/4 cup measure is full and note the weight. Say it weighs 1.75 oz, divide that by the 2oz that water would weigh and you get 87.5, so the density of your wax is 87.5%. One thing you might want to do first is determine the accuracy of the 1/4 cup. My stainless steel 1/4 cup holds slightly more than 1/4 cup. It's probably a miniscule amount of difference but just something to note. I usually have some tea light containers ready to go to pour the liquid wax into so I don't waste it. Hope that helps!
This isn't including the fragrance oil. So if you use this method you're using too much wax because you're not accounting for the fragrance oil.
This method of finding the fill weight is to find your net weight number essentially. This number is used to find out how much wax and fragrance oil together is needed to make up the total fill weight (net weight)
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo got it. Thank you so much.
.86 where did you get that number from
It’s the difference in density between wax and water
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo thanks!!
With this calculation in mind, what is the FO calculation?
Your amount of wax needed multiply by %
Example 3 jars at 3 oz each 3X3=9 at 6% you have
9X0.06= your total FO
I hope that helped
