I see a lot of people confused and getting Hantenguâs forms mixed up so let me break it down. When humans are turned into demons, despite being able to merge and they take any form/appearance they want, they take and stay with the physical appearance they had at their age as a human. For example, Akaza was 18, so he looks like a young man, Daki was 13 so she looks like sheâs in her teens as a demon, also thatâs why she acts so childish and is a crybaby without Gyutaro. Hantengu got turned into a demon when he was an old man hence his appearance. However, and this is where people get it mixed up, his main appearance is considered as the first « clone » itself and the embodiment of the human emotion fear (its carved on his tongue, just like all the other forms, look it up.) and his cowardly personality when he was a human, but it isnât his only form. The 4 other clones he has are just different forms representing the other primary emotions: anger (Sekido), pleasure/peace (Karaku), sadness/grief (Aizetsu) and joy/happiness (Urogi). They all appear and activate as he gets his head decapitated (Hantengu forming Sekido and Karaku), and two of the latter clones also both get decapitated (Sekido and Karaku forming Aizetsu and Urogi, but this time Sekido and Karaku donât disappear like Hantengu and stay as 4 demons). In the anime we can also see that Urogi (joy) temporarily separates into two weak little demons (a pair of eyes, and a tongue) when decapitated by Tanjiro before regenerating himself back to life. Sekido (anger) has himself an evolved form when he absorbs all the other 3 clones and transforms into Zohakuten, the embodiment of the emotion hatred (also carved on his tongue) which is considered the strongest and most powerful evolved form of Hantengu.
