about 80% of men join the army in Finland. Civil service is also possible for ethical or religious reasons. Civil service in Finland is 1 year long. It may also be possible to exempt a conscript from military service completely or during peacetime to exempt him from military service on health or mental health grounds. I have been released from military service for the duration of the peace on health grounds.

Do you know how much our defense forces benefit from training in Canada or the United States?

Conscription is involuntary servitude. Involuntary servitude is slavery.

@@KaiMarcad Kids in school are in service to no one but themselves. Homeschooling exists for those understandably don't like government schools.

@@ponraul1221 Who do you think conscription serves?

@@KaiMarcad Who conscription serves is irrelevant. If your cause isn't able to be fought for voluntarily, it isn't worth being fought for. If your nation is worth saving, it should have a population that values bearing arms and being proficient with them. If your government is pointing its guns on its own young men to save its hide, you're hardly better than the enemy who's doing the same thing.

@@ponraul1221 it isn't the government doing it, It's us who want to defend the country. The concription had about 70% support before the attack to Ukraine, and it went up after it. So it's the democratic majority who are forcing the ones who don't want to serve. The moment it doesn't have support it goes away, because we are a democracy. The reason why we want the maximum number of soldiers is that there's only 5,5 million of us, and 144 million Russians. Now the concription only applies to men but we are expanding the conscription to women too in the coming years.
