    “Chris struggles with consistency”
    Chris: hits 3 strikes in a row

    • @Brentster56
      @Brentster56 Před 2 měsíci +4

      Chris got lucky 3 times in a row. He didn't hit the pocket on the first shot but luckily still had enough energy to blast all the pins on the right of his ball down.
      His second and third shots were also completely different. The second shot being a much sharper curve with the third shot being a much straighter ball. We saw how when he got outside with his shot on the second ball the lane was much drier allowing it to recover and come into the pocket.
      On the third ball it's much straighter and we can see how the ball glides much longer before reacting and curving in. Missing a little right or left on both the second and third ball are the difference between hitting the strike or not.
      Consistently throwing the same shot allows a bowler to learn how the lanes are oiled and adjust properly so their ball does what they want it too and the pins react consistently.
      3 strikes are great, but you can only muscle out so many before you have to rely on technique over strength.

    Tip number 1: stoping thinking I’m a professional 😂

  • @solidtenpin
    @solidtenpin Před rokem +185

    I think a key to good balance at the line is having the right timing. I used to struggle because I had perfect timing (slide foot and ball at line at the same moment). Once I started delaying my swing, my slide foot got to the line first, allowing me to establish balance, then the swing shortly followed thereafter.

    • @HPontara1
      @HPontara1 Před rokem +6

      Yes. I struggle with this too, even knowing it, sometimes I rush my swing trying to create power. Tip 2 should help me a lot so my swing can be just after I get to the foul line so I good and balanced release could be made

    • @patersonplankrd
      @patersonplankrd Před rokem +6

      Do this. Step and push the ball away directly down the line of intended play. That starts the arc down the correct path. Pretend your arm is the pendulum on a grandfather clock. Push the ball Away until your arm is fully extended, let the ball fall which begins the arc. On the down arc, keep your body position in balance. Then project your release AND your finish directly at the target line . Upon release your shoulders should be square to the lane/foul line.

      First and foremost, the bowler needs to put on more weight
      The ratio of bowler to ball is 200 : 16
      For this bowler who is feather weight, his ball should have been 6 pounds
      Remember boys, dont let the ball control you. You have full control over your balls

    IMPECCABLY preseented. Not just the what and the how, but the WHY behind each.
    The only thing I would add is to take video of yourself whenever possible, especially in the smartphone age when we're carrying cameras anyway.
    When you're in a practice session, go back and replay each delivery and see if you're actually doing what you THINK you're doing. Like Darren said, reality doesn't always match what we envision.
    Great content, Darren.

    Tip #1: 👍. Swing behind the back big issue. Corrective action is crossover step synchronized with the take away. The ball should be dropping down in the right leg slot.
    Tip #2: Loose from the top 🔝. The downswing should be effortlessly.
    Tip #3: Balance at the foul line. Good footwork combined with right spine tilt and proper employment of the balance arm is how shot posting is achieved.
    Great video Darren!

      I throw so hard that I physically have to slow down my down swing to slow myself down to 15-16 mph. Also hold the ball on my hip so I don't have as big of a swing lol. Otherwise I'm throwing 18-19 and ball won't move at all

  • @stevenholland5024

    Ok awesome I'm 0 for 3 on all of these, but I know for a fact my worse one us tip #2 I absolutely 100% Muscle my swing really hard, Squeeze the ball at the bottom with my Thumb. Like you said when I try and relax my swing I feel like I'm going to drop it. I have averaged about 210 this way for years but how much better could I have been when I was younger or even now if I could master that release. Definitely 3 things I'm going to really work on in summer league. Awesome content. Will let you know in September if there is a difference:)

    I went through a bad stretch and wasn’t throwing it smooth. Took video of myself and saw my swing was way behind me. Started to make my backswing feel like it was way out to the left (i’m a lefty) and it got my smooth release back. Similar to your first tip, but just i focused more on the backswing instead of the pushaway. I feel like everybody learns differently so we can take different approaches to the same idea! Another great video Darren!

Good to know to straighten out your swing is to over exaggerate the push away. Very cool. In watching the Daren Tang videos I noticed that as part the push away, Daren's arm is straight in that it appears his elbow is locked allowing his arm to remain straight, from the push point where he says to let the ball fall, all the to the top of the back swing. In all the videos I've watch, there has been no mention of locking you elbow during the push away.
    Think if the arm is bent during push away, there's a natural tendency to bend the elbow which will cause a need to grab the ball on the down instead of letting it fall freely to the top of the back.
    swing. This grabbing sensation with the bent elbow could be the reason why the ball goes too far to the left during the back swing. Just a thought. Good video love the educational type videos and the league night videos as well.

    Great video Darren and although it's been about 10+ years since I have bowled, I was able to see the flaws with each bowler before the question was answered.
    It's nothing to brag about that my best game in was 187 and that was just using a Columbia 300 White Dot beginner ball and I never did get to continue bowling because travel to/from the nearest lanes is a pain in the ass.
    It would be cool to start bowling again, but I would probably have to use some lighter weight house balls, to try and at least learn some basics of learning to hook the ball, even though they are really just made for straight bowling for soares, etc.

  • @atbsigma

    One thing that's also helping me is to reset myself, mentally. No more thinking that I'm as good as I want to believe I am. Being humble enough to accept that while I was pretty good in 2019, I'm absolutely mediocre today. I ask myself questions like 'do I bowl to be better than my peers, or do I genuinely enjoy the sport like I do baseball?' I see some pretty good follow up tips here by many bowlers but I try and refrain from giving any advice because I've decided that true experts like professional bowlers or coaches that do this for a living are the best sources for this sort of information. Then, I'll take my time to rebuild my game and enjoy the journey. I'm thankful for my day job!!

    For me, I just discovered that for years I was starting the approach square and center, and just realized now that I've been walking to the right by time I'm at foul lane and I end up pulling ball to the left because I'm physically too far right. Lol. Finally working on that now. Hey, got a question for you. I noticed in one if your vids you hurt your arm in a tournament and ended up using a massager I guess for your right forearm? Getting back to bowling after years of not playing I too recently hurt my right arm bowling. I can bowl but I noticed when I squeeze my right hand thete is a small pain that shoots up to the right elbow. Do you get bowling injuries all the time or do you have any suggestions for fixing these types of issues? I'm just wondering if I strained the muscles or ligaments in the arm. I can use my arm but the minor pain has never gone away.

    I was taught to never drop your shoulder as you progress through the swing. Also my ball was drilled based on the type of straight handshake style release I had. Those and a straight path swing allowed me to remain totally relaxed and let the ball do the work. All I had to do was adjust my target mark on the lane to allow the ball to hit the pocked. I could strike on either side of the pocked consistantly.

    Darren, I hope you can lay off practicing and tournaments until your arm heals. Your one of a minority of bowlers who probably works too hard. This instructional video is outstanding. In my opinion your ability to use your bowling knowledge to instruct other bowlers is underrated.

    First gut has great form. His feet should be much further right for the lack of revs. Or he can make his target more right to hit the breakpoint sooner.

    0:32: his form is pretty good. He either needs a ball designed to hook a little more, or he needs to move one board to the right while throwing over the same mark.

    You could say there's a general standard in bowling.
    But what counts the most is hitting the pocket and striking.
    I've been able to muster 18 strikes in a row, so I must be doing something right.
    See you in Las Vegas during the next coming senior tournament.

    Watch the best approach to increase ball speed. I have tried backing up on lane to increase my approach speed . I’m still hitting my marks, I just can’t get the ball down the lane any faster . Any tips ?

    The number 1 thing professional bowlers do that I do not: Bowl 😂 But I do watch a ton of random videos on CZcams. This seems like solid instruction. You make me want to try it out. Lol

    Tip #4 do not go to the bowling alley in your pajamas especially when you are going to be in a CZcams video.

    Do you have any tips for bringing the backswing 'higher'? My arm ends up aligning with my thigh and going further back than that just feels uncomfortable
