They wrote some original music using amplified distorted cellos the best album to hear the progression is their compilation album "Amplified: a decade of reinventing the cello" from 2006... you can hear the cello slowly go from symphonic to metal as the album proceeds

The lyrics are based on the 1939 novel Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo, which is about World War I. A specific passage that inspired the song is:
"How could a man lose as much of himself as I have and still live? When a man buys a lottery ticket you never expect him to win because it's a million to one shot. But if he does win, you'll believe it because one in a million still leaves one. If I'd read about a guy like me in the paper I wouldn't believe it, cos it's a million to one. Eicca Toppinen tells at first they had this idea of James speaking the words so that they can be brought out better.Then Eicca met James in Gothenburg at Metallica weekend and told him we have this kind of an idea of One with spoken words.James said ''Why don't you ask me to do it?'' Eicca was like ''What!?Really!?''
