    Sir, does the northing and easting you have uses WGS 84 as geographical coordinate or is it projected already?

    Correct me if I'm wrong but in a closed traverse isn't the algebraic sum of departures equal to zero? And the same with the latitudes. In this example, the sum of the departures is nowhere near zero.

      Hi I think this is just a surveying sign convention as described under "Latitudes and Departures" on page. 308 in FE Handbook 10.1

    The presenter does a good job of explaining a plane traverse but nothing about this example is representative of the State Plane Coordinate System (SPCS). Depending on which state you're working in SPCS northing and easting coordinates are often going to be expressed in hundreds of thousands to more than a million feet (assuming the presenter is working in feet - he never defines the units of length. Additionally the directions in SPCS are always shown as azimuths relative to the grid not berings and the distances must be reduced from horizontal ground measurements to the level of the grid plane by taking into account the height of the two stations above the the datum reference ellipsoid and then applying a grid scale factor. Regrettably I have found too many errors from surveying and engineering professionals who do not fully understand how to properly perfrom SPCS computations.

      Hi David, I will need to update the video description as I agree with you on how this problem does not really explain nor employ the concept of the state plane coordinate system. Your description and through description of the SPCS will definitely be taken into consideration when making future videos that actually cover the SPCS. Thank you!
