Every time Hugh is on screen as Wolverine, he does not disappoint. Hard to find another actor who could play Wolverine like him.
Very true.
Tom Hardy could be able to. And he would be the right size.
He is the franchise, he probably could have asked for double whatever he was paid and got it. He probably is getting a back-end of the gross also.
When the ninjas shoot him with the arrows attached to ropes is almost an exact replica of a Wolverine comic book cover art. So good
Love that cover!

Wolverine's Japan arc is much beloved by comicbook readers.
And yes the mid-credit scene was huge. Just think of the level a threat would have to be to unite eric and charles
I don't know why, but the Jean scenes just cut so deep emotionally. Yukio teary eyes when Logan reaches in for the thing attached his heart. And something she says, that becomes relevant much later hits so hard.
There’s an alternative ending, where Logan’s bodyguard gives him a suitcase on the plane. In the case is a yellow and blue spandex suit, like the original X-men suits from the comics. The Wolverine in the trailer for Deadpool 3 wears a similar outfit.
It's the famous end scene.
It's not the blue and yellow suit in the case.
It's the other iconic suit which is tan and brown.
First introduced in the 1982 limited solo series of Wolverine.

@@thefly4176 I watch a few channels.
PiB, Blind Wave, The Normies, Just Trust Ash, MagiePink etc.
But the difference between this channel and those, is that they are all content creators. Cassie and Carly and just two mums, experiencing movies for the first time.
It’s just humble, and doesn’t feel like a massive grift? I don’t feel like i’m being used for money with this channel, just feels like one of Cassies hobbies.
Logan lost his memories when stryker put two adamantium bullets through his brain. What this did was emulsify (mess-up) a significant portion of his brain into little pieces and stir it all up. Each little piece contains some part of his memory. SO Logan still has all his memories -- just doesn't have access to them. BUT Logan's brain is slowly healing. All the little pieces are (slowly) finding their way back to their proper places so every so often Logan get a few old memories back.
I believe his sessions with Xavier are also helping to restore some memories
Good to know.
I always preferred the explanation of his brain "intentionally" locking away memories as a meanings to protect him. His trauma would have destroyed him, just as any other person, but his body keeps him going. It's basically what happens to all of us in real life just that his life is much more extreme. A person gets traumatized in war, it gets locked away if they can't handle it so the person can live in. Even when, tragically, children experience extreme trauma they lock the worst of it away to continue on, albeit it tends to alter their lives more since it is during developmental periods of life.
Charles still looks the same because the brain dead man he transferred himself to was his twin brother. Confirmed in the commentary of Last Stand.
Technically you learned Logan was older than he appeared in the first movie, just not how old.
Logan’s healing is suppressed, but he does still have bones laced with near indestructable metal, so they wouldn’t brake from falls. Dislocated maybe, but not broken. Not without something else adamantium, or something stronger.
This movie really digs deeper about Logan’s purpose after he left the team. With so many years of life being filled with nothing but pain and torment, one can only go so far before they snap. With this adventure with the Yashida family, he realizes that although he truly has suffered enough by remaining unchanged while he saw many around him age and die, Logan understands that he can still have reasons to live and to keep fighting for those who can’t do the things like he can. What amazes is how Japan was annihilated twice with those atomic bombings and yet, after more than 70 years, the land had replenish itself like the coming and going of a season. Like the Phoenix, it rose from the ashes to become something better, something stronger; thus showing that nature can bring back what man destroys. If we somehow straight up disappear altogether, the Earth can truly revert to its former glory, with some changes left behind by us. See you two next time.
The atomic bombs actually didn’t do all that much destruction to Japan in the grand scheme of things. What was scary was the power they represented. But what Japan actually had to build itself up from was the carpet bombings of most of the biggest cities, especially with fire bombs.
The Wolverine characters first Appearances:
The Wolverine - *The Incredible Hulk **#180** (1974)*
Yukio - *Wolverine #2 (1982)*
Mariko Yashida - *The Uncanny X-Men **#118** (1979)*
Kenuichio Harada | Silver Samurai - *Daredevil **#111** (1974)*
Viper - *Captain America **#110** (1969)*
Most of the character featured in this film were created for the film but these five including Wolverine of course are from the comics. Yukio being from the comic this film is based on along with Mariko as well. Harada who uses a bow throughout the film is the Silver Samurai in the comics who has past history with Wolverine.
Not in this movie but *the first appearance of Sabertooth was Marvels Iron Fist #14 published August 1977.*
Edit: Fixed a typo.
FYI: Wolverines are know as "the jacked-up honey badger on steroids". They are about the size of a medium dog, and can weigh up to 66 lbs. They possess ferocity and strength far out of proportion to their size. They even prey on bison, moose, & elk. The largest documented wolverine kill was a 1,800 lbs adult male moose. Wolverines usually avoid bears, wolves, and cougars (who can kill them) but they have also driven those predators away from food or territory.
They've also got absolutely insane jaws, able to crunch through bones and tear apart carrion that been frozen solid
The family of mustelids (weasels, honey badgers, badgers, wolverines, etc) are all imbued with an anger more akin to T-rex with inflamed teeth. Thick but floppy skin to boot which makes them super tough to bite through, and they can squirm around in their skin to almost turn 180° if bitten with the typical neck hold used by other predators. This allows them to retaliate with claws and teeth while being held in a supposedly firm hold.
If you want to see a funny story about a honey badger taking on LIONS (plural), check out the story of the honey badger Stoffel in Africa.
@@RustyDust101 Yeah, all mustelids are impressive. Evolutionarily speaking, the really big predators all filled up the "large predator niche" first.
So in order to compete as predators with "The Big Guys", the mustelids countered by evolving:
- increased intelligence for adaptability,
- increased potential ferocity and aggression,
- a wide variety of sizes within the same family,
- off-the-charts increased stamina,
- increased durability and defense with thicker, more loose skin
- increased pound for pound strength.
- a "Never give up. Never surrender" attitude with a tenaciously aggressive defense
“Are they… ill-tempered?”
- Dr. Evil
A Wolverine isn't a bear either. It's the largest member of the Mustelidae family, Weasels, Stoats, Pine Martens, Otters, Honey Badgers etc.
One thing they got so wrong in this film is Wolverine using his claws while his healing factor was suppressed. Ordinarily his flesh regenerates every time he extends them, but without it functioning properly his knuckles should have been turned into a raw bloody mess.
His healing appeared to still be partially working. His claw extending wounds would be fairly minor compared to what else he suffered while suppressed.
He still regenerated, just more slowly
28:05 Pretty sure that's deliberate homage to the James Bond film "Diamonds Are Forever". Nicely done.
In the books mariko was Logan's great love before jean.
Logan's burns in Nagasaki were not from radiation but from thermal heat. The gamma burst from a nuclear explosion travels at light speed and was done in a couple seconds. The blast of heat traveled at nearly mach one. Relatively few people died from radiation exposure from the two atomic bombs, most deaths were blunt trauma from the percussive explosion, from the heat blast, or from fallen structures.
Source: trust me bro
If the bombs detonated on the ground instead of at 1900 feet, would there have been worse radiation on the ground? I know the main reason for air bursts is that they cause more destruction, but I remember hearing that they also leave less radiation in the ground, but I can't find any info on that so I think it might have been a myth. I know the bombs used on Japan were low yield compared to bombs built just a few years later, but they don't cause the same kind of persistent radiation hazard as a power plant meltdown, right?
@AliceBowie
You're correct with your bomb information 👌. Power plants ... are relatively benign. The fuel can not explode because fuel is not enriched to 90% pure U²³⁵ or Pu²³⁹, it can only fizzle with heat. Plus containment domes will contain most if not all releases. 3 Mile Island did have an intentional release the next day through a chimney: the equivalent of one chest x-ray was released and quickly dissipated many yards above ground. Benign.
Many people misunderstand basic radiation. Large amounts released suddenly are certainly dangerous. Those are short half-life and decay into other, less radioactive atoms in minutes or hours. Atoms with longer halflives (more than a century) are benign - they hold any prospective energy release inside their structures.
@AliceBowie
Your bomb information is correct 👌.
Power plants are relatively benign. A persistent radiation with halflives over a century would merely lead to a long, healthful life - little or no effect. Short halflife atoms (hours or days) are dangerous.
Look into present day life in Nagasaki or Tchornobyl - thriving & healthy!
@@AliceBowie via wikipedia Ground Burst -
"In the context of a nuclear weapon, a ground burst is a detonation on the ground, in shallow water, or below the fallout-free altitude. This condition produces substantial amounts of nuclear fallout. An air burst or a deep subterranean detonation, by contrast, makes little fallout."
The above also highlights why meltdowns can be so bad; any explosion that might happen is obviously ground based and it could also get into the water table causing further contamination. So no myth you were correct.
I really enjoyed this one. The director's cut is an even better version... They cut the big ninja brawl when he gets to the city in the third act (before all the arrows) ... among other things.
This japan story line was right from the first wolverine comics but heavily changed for the movie
I really enjoy this movie but the 3rd act feels so disconnected from the first 2. It feels like a completely different movie. Hugh is an absolute beast in this movie
I believe this movie is a loose adaptation of Frank Miller's The Wolverine mini series.
@@danielgalway8395 Agreed, it's 2/3 of a good movie. If the Silver Samurai had been left closer to the comics (as shown with Shingen) it would have made for a better climax.
@@imahoare4742 Don't forget Claremont was on that book.
@@AmbaryernoAgreed. I hated what they did with Silver Samurai. Made him look like a CGI Shredder from TMNT versus the character in the comics. That whole sequence was just weak AF compared to the rest of the film.
41:07 His metal claws were sliced off, but the rest of his skeleton is still coated with adamantium, so Magneto can still control his body.
At the end, Yashida was harvesting Logans bone morrow from the exposed claws to transfer the mutant gene to his own body like a regular transfusion used in cancer treatment.
41:15 I think this reaction from Cassie is compounded by her greater appreciation for Patrick Stewart over the last few months.
Waking up from a nightmare into another nightmare is legit one of the scariest things your brain can do to you.
X-Men Origins - Wolverine was set before the first X Men movie.

3:47: it is a form of honorable suicide called "seppuku."
The reason this story works so well (like the comic it is inspired by) is because Wolverine is a Ronin himself. He has outlived the war that created him and now wanders alone, using his skills for justice and atoning for past sins.
The crazy thing about Viper? In the comics, ‘Viper’ was an alternative codename used by the woman who also went by the codename Madame Hydra…lover of, of all people, RED SKULL.

This is my favorite of the films. The storyline is perfect.
Wolverines are not bears, Wolverines are part of the Weasel family Weasels, Otters and Wolverines and Badgers are the slightly bigger meaner cousin's.
Also in the comics, his first wife was this Japanese woman who was killed by the winter soldier & also had a son. He was taught by a master who crafted the Muramasa blade which is the only thing that can kill him.

some people did in my screening, oh well, guess they were in for a shock with DOFP lol.
50 years ago, Wolverine debuted in Marvel Comics from an appearance with The Incredible Hulk to a newly recruited member with the X--Men.
But in 1982, his first-ever solo series by Frank Miller (300, Sin City) and Chris Claremont (1970s X-Men) defined the character of Logan.
His story was set in Japan and Logan's life was likened to that of an Ronin (samurai with no master).
He has the heart to stand against opposition, but is still learning/finding a direction in life.
The film uses elements from the solo series and set long after the events of X3:The Last Stand.
This is Hugh Jackman's 2nd film with director James Mangold following the romantic comedy, Kate & Leopold (2001).
Struggling with Jean's death, finding his place in the world and losing his healing temporarily is the most drama.
The action, romance, suspense, intrigue of being a Gajin (outsider) caught in someone else's battle really feels like the comics.
2 of the antagoniss;Viper is originally human and known as Madame Hydra in the Captain America comics.
Yashida in the Silver Samurai suit is based on the Silver Samurai and Ogun characters/known Wolverine villains.
A really good sequel, rightfully steps ahead of and more loved than X-Men Origins:Wolverine.
But both Logan & Professor X (solo/together) would soon face even greater obstacles.
The evolution was not over and I personally couldn't wait to see so much more in this universe.
Great synopsis I remember reading the Frank Miller solo book as a trade paperback when it was published. A couple of days ago I bought and now reading *Wolverine Origin by Paul Jenkins and Andy Kubert.* Interesting book describing young James Howlett's life then becoming Logan.
In the comics, Logan's bone claws are actually sharper than the ones covered in adamantium. It just hurts whenever they break and have to grow back.
I love ‘The Wolverine’. It’s an underrated masterpiece.
Please, for the next movie, Days of future past, react to the Rogue Cut
Strongly Agree. It shows everything.

He got his memories back at the end of X2
Guys a wolverine is a badger not a bear. Like a honey badger it is ferocious a fearless creature. The wolverine is the biggest badger on the planet.
Wolverines are sometimes called "the jacked up honey badger on steroids". Honey badgers are their "little cousins".
Technically that's not correct. Both badgers and wolverines are mustelids, but wolverines are not just another species of badger.
@@MontgomeryWenis Another interesting fact is that honey badgers are technically misnamed.
Their Mustelid Subfamily Mellivorinae is closer related to Subfamily Guloninae (martens, tayra, fisher, wolverine) than it is to any of the other 3 badger Subfamilies.
In the comics, Mariko Yashida is most famous as Wolverine's wife.
The woman he found peace and happiness with for a time while he was living in Japan.
Logan and Mariko also become the adoptive parents to a girl named Amiko.
And Yukio eventually becomes Amiko's guardian/2nd adoptive mother.
Given the way this movie ends with Wolverine and Mariko CLEARLY having a strong romantic connection, and Wolverine and Yukio traveling around together, COMBINED WITH the fact that this is more or less the last time we ever see THIS version of Wolverine on this timeline, we are pretty much free to assume whatever we want, and can assume that Mariko and Wolverine continue to see each other and get married, and that they eventually adopt Amiko.
It can all fit safely within the framework provided by these movies, if you so wish.
I agree. She also fixes his claws for him. The time skip in Days of Future Past is so far that anything is possible in that time.
@@LuminairPrime Well, the movies imply that Magneto fixes his claws, given that we don't seem to see them take the time for Mariko to do it, and we jump to Magneto at the airport, and then to DOFP where Wolverine has his adamantium claws again alongside Magneto.
But it IS technically possible that she could do it too.
@@ieyke I don't think the movies intentional imply Magneto fixed the claws. Mariko does have his claws and the technology to manufacture adamantium parts, and she loves Logan and his claws, so that's the no-brainer to me. The claws are her kink lol, after they fucked she was rubbing them. I think she fixed them ASAP. In any case, while the fixed claws are not explained, it's easy to imagine ways for them to be fixed.
I didn't think Logan and Mariko ever actually married. They were engaged at one point, but things happened, and then Mariko died a couple times.

The storyline with Logan going to Japan in the comics is excellent. The bonding that goes on between Kitty and Logan is really good. Cheers.

Just so you know, there was a famous album by the band, the Moody Blues, called "Days of Future Passed." That's where the next X-Men story gets its name, though there's zero relation, just grabbing the title of a well-known music album and changing it a little ("past" instead of "passed").
Just so you know what I’m saying has no relevance. But I like talking so. 🤷🏽♀️
@@tahirahshabazz50 Not sure what or why you are condemning. But others who had not made the connection before have told me they appreciated the reference.
Logan is going to blow your mind. The Wolcerine is great & under rated but feels like a passion project butting into studio interference (I think Wolverine was rhe only mutant in the comic) and the source material was way more introspective & character based (Logan finding his peace) then action/power heavy.
I like it when you take active part in the movie like "is that guy on our side?"
I had hoped that Yukio would've appeared in other movies. I like this dynamic duo.
This is more a stand alone movie. Normally we see the Wolverine with the other X-Men. But casting Hugh as Wolverine was so successfull standalone movies with just one of them became a normal thing overtime. It first happened in the comics. Later it naturally progressed into movies. That said there have been superheroes that always were solitary like for example Spider-Man or Superman. In my mind there is no one even close who could match Hugh as the Wolverine. This kind of perfection only comes once a lifetime if not several but at the same time so easy to imagine. It just took someone to put that 1 plus 1 together. And he owes half his carreer to if not more.
Days of Future Past …. My favorite ❤.
This one might be my favorite of the Wolverine movies.
This was my favorite one too, until Days of Future Past. That remains my favorite.
You might enjoy watching "Logan the Wolf", a fan-made short film which is absolutely fantastic. It's set in the Viking era and Logan has done a magical ritual with Fenris, the Wolf destined to kill Odin during Ragrarok, who grants him regeneration and bone claws. The claws look like the adamantium claws because they didn't like the look of the original bone claws. It's quite gory though, so be warned. 🙂
12:53 - Xavier had been helping Logan regain his memory.
There's one reason I love your reaction channel over others. I love the honest unscripted reactions that make me believe the "first time watching" tag. A lot of reactors I've seen seem like they're reading from a script.
Remember the line "I saw you die... you were holding your own heart in your hand."
Viper AKA "Dr. Green" is given a poorly explained role in this movie.
Normally, her real name should be Ophelia Sarkeesian AKA Madame Hydra.
As her alternate codename implies, she's one of the leaders of HYDRA.
Since Fox didn't have the rights to actually USE HYDRA in the X-Men movies, her role as Madame Hydra can only be assumed.
In the comics, HYDRA is an offshoot of the ninja clan known as The Hand.
Of course HYDRA then becomes super Nazis and battles Captain America.
But HYDRA and The Hand still retain some connections.
So, it's sort of implied here that Madame Hydra/Viper is using her Nazi super science to manipulate this ninja clan and Mr. Yoshida, in order to get a shot at stealing Wolverine's healing powers and immortality for HYDRA, and using Yoshida's wealth and stockpile of adamantium to prepare to build adamantium weapons for HYDRA.
We see that she's CLEARLY pulling the strings here throughout the whole movie, but we never fully understand her motives, unless we just accept that she's simply ONLY working for Yoshida.....despite being SO manipulative and seemingly pulling all the strings.
I find it best to just ASSUME that her role as a leader of HYDRA is intact in this movie, even though Fox couldn't legally refer directly to it.
And Wolverine is part of Captain America's legacy.
All the experiments done to him were in the name of attempting to find alternate ways to replicate the success of Captain America's Super Soldier process.
And the Adamantium that coats his bones was developed as a failed attempt to replicate the Vibranium-Steel alloy that makes up Captain America's shield.
Captain America was essentially created by SHIELD.
It only makes sense that SHIELD's ultimate enemy, HYDRA. would eventually come to haunt Wolverine too.
🤷♂
It's allllll tied together in a complex tapestry.
Great concise and illuminating NON-SPOILER history, @ieyke! It really sheds a ton of light n gives context and how this lady villain figures so largely out of the "green" in the movie! Now I know! And wanna know more! Way to inform smartly! Wish all comments did this! Hail IEYKE!
17:13 He still has his adamantium skeleton, a head shot would bounce off.
25:51 Same thing, steel skeleton, unbreakable bones
But the impact from the bullet would cause a concussion which caused long-term brain damage
Continuity is all over the place: Logan lived in Japan so he can speak Japanese in the comics, dunno how he remembers being in Japan if Striker erased some of his memory. Just go with each movie separately and it kind of fits together (f you ignore or forget some things).
"WHAT are we watching...candy shop?"
No, it's a PACHINKO PPARLOR. Pachinko is a sort of gambling machine with dropping marbles - extremely popular in Japan.
So...the memory thing with Yoshida...He refers to him for the first part as "some guy I saved once who wants to say bye" (along those lines) and then when visits the site where they met (the hole he saved yashida in, now covered) he seems to regain memory like he did in X-men 2 in Alkali Lake, which is also post gunshot wound. It's supposed to be that his memory comes back when he is reminded of things. There's a lot of theories about how Charles looks like himself in this new body...and the theory I like the most is that he just uses his abilities to make everyone within view of him see his old face instead of the new bodies face. So the next one, Days Of Future Past, is my favorite one and you will see why. I can't wait for you both to watch it.
Loved the reaction and as a few others are saying, I highly recommend the Rogue Cut on the next one. It’s the complete version of the film and is just way more satisfying.
DAYS OF FUTURE PAST IS MY FAVORITE ONE, WHAT AN AMAZING MOVIE
Greetings Carly and Cassie
The reason (in theory) why Logan can remember his WWII past is because as he regenerates, he builds up new pathways to "old" memories. In reality (according to most neurology doctors) memories are not really lost, just the pathways or accessibility to them is "broken or lost". It is like hiding a photo album somewhere in your house or property, you might forget where it is, but the photo album does NOT cease to exist where it was stored or buried. So, if another regeneration or 'trauma' causes new pathways to a memory (map), then a 'lost memory' will resurface and be 'remembered' unexpectedly.
The doctor 'poisoned' him in order to sedate him and then take his power to save the old man. She did not put too much in because she did not want to kill or taint his blood enough to affect the "surgery' she was planning. This is why she is video taking him during the funeral fight scene to analyze her 'poison' was affecting him. However, Logan was still healing, just at a slower rate because she introduced a mutant foreign agent in his blood system. Unfortunately, they then switched it to a mechanical 'parasite' much like in the first "Matrix" film.
Without a conscious effort, Stan Lee's creation of Logan / Wolverine is largely the reason X-Men has become so popular. By most statistical metrics, Wolverine is the MOST popular mutant. This is the prime reason most X-Men movies revolve around this character, not only in this franchise, but also in the comics, for the most part.
"...to live forever with no reason to live" is technically, incorrect. Because he is having "memory" problems and he can't foretell the future, he is unaware (to this point) why he is SO IMPORTANT to the survival and victory of the mutant and human existence. This is, in part, because Lee had not yet written / decided how far to take his worth to the overall arc of 'Mutant' history. Unfortunately, we lost him way toooo soon for him determine the final trajectory. Now it is up to present and future illustrators and writers to decide his path and destiny.
One of the problems I have with the "Logan" film (and probably the Deadpool 3" film) is that they continue to age him, which violate both the theory they setup in the previous film and that from the comics. Logan CAN'T (or shouldn't be able) age past a mid 30s age appearance and his abilities [should just] continue to improve.
Katherine Heigl has Brown eyes...those look green, so even with the mask on, I knew it was not Katherine. Also in the comics, not in the movie, Wolverine got his memories back from the Scarlett Witch, who you may know from the Avengers, played by Elizabeth Olsen, younger sister of the Olsen twins.
I had not noticed that this movie and LOGAN were Both directed by James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari) :)
Even if he doesn't have his healing ability to the extent that he normally does, he still heals faster than human and has an indestructible metal skeleton, meaning. Even if he's shot in the head, it will only cause a mild concussion.
Yeah I was one of the dummies that missed the post-credits scene. I did figure it out when Days of Future Past came out. Lol. Respect for keeping Xavier dead for more than six years. That's actually pretty impressive for such a big franchise with one of their iconic characters. And this one had some solid, fast-paced action.
Silver Fox, Mariko and Jean Grey...three loves, three painful memories
viper suppressed logan's healing factor by overwhelming it with enough poison to kill hundreds of people. while logan's healing factor fought off the poison [the immediate threat], the rest of his body became vulnerable. the poison was introduced via the thing attached logan's heart. it was a protein based nanobot. it's why it disintegrated after logan pulled it out, because it was exposed to open air.
for those who's seen wade's movie and wondered: yes, this girl is a variant of THAT girl who likes to say "hi wade!"
Next is "Days of Future's Past".
But please watch the Rouge Cut Version.
The costume in the case on the plane at the end of the movie is a comics accurate suit. Something similar will be in Deadpool 3.
Glad you guys enjoyed this one. Days Of Future Past is great too!
14:50 that's all you can look for in life is the transferred verse.
When she tells Logan how he dies hits different now.
Well, it's a classic "getting his mojo back" kind of movie, so it's easy to enjoy. Plus SAMURAIS and NINJAS!;) Glad you enjoyed it so much.
12:52 THAT IS a good question! I never thought about it, because he shouldn't remeber. I never really thought about that until now. The Xmen timeline is so... fun
While Logan doesn't heal in this movie when the doctor suppressed his healing factor, he still has an adamantium lace on all his bones. That makes his skeleton still virtually unbreakable, and bullets to the head will only break his skin. The greatest danger to him in this state were flesh wounds that would cause him to bleed out.
Days of Future Past is one of the fan favourites in this franchise.
