    Ah, yes, my old stomping grounds. 😌. I grew up on the west side of town, and spent almost every month of May as a kid hanging out at IMS.
    It may look like the biggest grandstands on any other race course, but at Indy the 4th turn, here, has an almost intimate feel, compared to the towering, shadowy awesomeness of the stands along the main straight and first turn.
    The Indianapolis Motor Speedway remains by far the most awesome and historically spooky race course I’ve ever been in, and I’ve experienced a bunch of great ones. Like others have mentioned here, there’s a lot that can’t be captured in a picture or a video - it’s the vibe, the deep history, the sense of mortality, the SIZE... it’s to race courses what the Grand Canyon is to ravines.
    One of a kind.

    I had the privilege of being a season ticket holder for the Indy 500 from 1988 through the mid 1990's when the engines were still (normally aspirated ?) and (turbo charged ?). I quit going after the CART / IRL split of 1995 (?) All I know is the engines of that era were much louder and faster. Our seats were in the old Tower Terrace at the end of the pit lane which were removed for the remodeling prior to the 1st F-1 race which I did attend. The Indy cars in the early 90's would hit 240 MPH at the end of the front stretch. I believe it was 40 seconds to lap the 2.5 mile track at the time. Watching on T.V. doesn't do justice, you have to go at least once. The F-1 cars of the day had a very high pitched scream sound. Extremely high revving.

    • @richarddobson3138
      @richarddobson3138 Před 2 lety

      @T C. The IndyCars were faster then but not by much...236 then at Indy, 233 now.. But the racing today is far superior now as well as the reliability
      Back then you were lucky to have 10 cars finish the race..And only 1-3 maybe on the lead lap..Today over 25 finish the race with many on the lead lap...Regardless of what the corporate media has told you, the split was not caused by Tony George..The split was caused by CART which always sought complete control of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and even Roger Penske admits this now...Tony George created his own series in order to maintain control of his property and the Indy500
      25/8 was created to help guarantee his new series success..If you owned your own property which happened to house the World's biggest 1 day Attended Sporting Event you better believe you would be on the defensive in protecting your interests if someone came in and tried to TAKEOVER the entire event..By the way, IndyCars are going hybrid in 2023 and there will be a huge increase in horsepower.
      34% increase I believe I read...This may result in new speed records depending on the cars configuration

      @@justincase8037 f1 cars have more horsepower than indy cars. They don't do oval tracks like indy does. The clearest view on the speed of cars between f1 and indy is the US grand prix. F1 cars are 7 seconds faster around that circuit than indy cars. F1 is more about aerodynamics and the development race between different manufacturers. Where indy is one package. If you put an f1 car around a track that's meant for oval, it will beat an indy car. I'm not biased, as I do like indy racing. It's just facts.

    • @richarddobson3138

      @Mike B. No sir you're wrong.. As configured no F1 car comes close to the top speed of IndyCars...Indycars hold a huge speed record over F1 with the highest official speed every recorded being 257 for Indy and 232 for F1..The entire Indy 500 field
      qualified at over 227 mph in 2021 with the top speed this year at 233.
      No where in any part of any F1 race do they come close to that speed.

    • @mikeb7835
      @mikeb7835 Před 2 lety +1

      @@richarddobson3138 ugh, you kinda proved my point in your own response... ''as configured'' As of right now the indy car uses a 2.2L TTV6 producing 500-700 HP depending on downforce. F1 engines are over 1000HP using a 1.6L Turbo HybridV6. F1 if they wanted to configure their cars for the Indy 500, could develop packages bringing their HP to around 850HP bringing their HP DOWN to only 150 MORE than indy cars. F1 cars with so much more downforce ''as configured'' could not go as fast around the indy 500, you're correct. but also remember around the mexican grand prix during the current engine era in F1, the highest speed on a street circuit is 231.6 MPH. Give the F1 teams a chance to create an indy 500 spec car, bringing horsepower down, and aero packages specific for ovals, the speeds would be much different. Indy cars around the circuit of the americas, in Austin, TX is 14 seconds slower than an F1 car, both on straights and turns. Indy cars around street circuits are actually closer to the feeder league of F1, F2. Also, the record for Indy cars is not 257.. i'm not sure where you got that from. Its actually just 239.260mph. 8mph faster than an F1 car around the mexican street circuit.. eesh. Like i said, i'm a huge fan of indy cars, been going to races for many years, i'm also an F1 fan, and understand the motorsport very well. very different cars, both fun motorsports!

But on any large Oval , F1 has no chance either..Because of their much superior acceleration they could have a good chance on a short oval....

    Not very loud at all. Now if it was Nascar then it would feel like your head is inside a factory engine.

      HerrBauer96 - At 235-240 mph, Indy cars are NO ONE’s “bootleg”, dude. And even at that mega-speed, the racing is far closer and more exciting than f1, has a far better and more colorful variety of competitors, a far more congenial attitude among them, and they race on BOTH ovals and road courses.
      So put that in your pipe and smoke it. 😆
      (And PS, this is coming from someone who actually LIKES F1.)

      @YaBoiSenna You sure? The first ever F1 race was held in 1950, while the first Indycar race was held in 1911.
