As a white South African - Elon Musk being, "African American" had me fucking rolling.
In highschool we had a kid, Johan, who was white South African and had immigrated to the US as a kid and became a citizen. When they would call all the African American students over the intercom to come to the conference room (usually to discuss college scholarships or something) he would stand up to go. When the teacher asked what he was doing he'd say "Where am I from? South Africa. What does one of my passports say? America. What does that make me? African American." And walk out. To this day Im not sure how anyone should have responded to that. Also never found out how it went down when he showed up to those meetings lol.

@@StummerVogel Yes, there are scholarships that are specifically for black students. It's a bit complicated but because of US history many POC have been deliberatly denied educational and financial opportunities and ethnicity based scholarships and schools attempt to rectify that situation.
