  • Hope you guys are doing great, it's finally summer.
Sorry i have been so quiet, haven't fished that much in the last 3 months, and couldn't film because of my broken Go Pro, but it gave me some time to focus on the athletics and winter training a little.
On this trip we targeted Kob, specifically bigger size Kob and we are still on the hunt.
Although casting a cast net seems simple there is some tricks and timing to it, and once you learn how to cast the net, it's easy.
There's a huge expectation on bait that you collected yourself.
I learned to throw the cast net when I was 11 years old, a Kleinmond Local, Kokkie De Kok use to come every afternoon and cast his net and I would run down to the Lagoon to look for him. I was always amazed by how easily he catches fish. That Christmas my grandpa bought me my first net!
Today i still catch fish on the same spot by this technique I was taught. Although a lot of people can throw the net, I know there is a lot of guys that don't get it right..so i hope this helps.
Once we had our live bait we headed of to the water and looked for the right spot to place it. The water was a bit too clean, but we still gave it a go knowing that the Kob is around.
Tip, when the water is clean on the day.. a live bait is a good natural bait to throw on the edges of the sandbanks, but it will definitely work better if there is some colour in the water, (that brown ginger beer, dirty water)
Kob feeds on vibrations, so in dirty water it can quickly pickup that live bait's panicking signals
Hope you enjoy the video, and we will see you next week!
