You're close! :) So he got invited to the 2017 The Singer Competition as a "wild card" they expected him to only be there for a few episodes. His mother said in an Interview Dimash himself never expected to make it past 1/2 way. In fact he didn't even pack enough clothes for the entire show (13 episodes) so they had to ship more to him. Anyway he was the first "foreigner" and the youngest to ever compete in this show. Everyone that competes is already a professional. The judges are the 500 member audience! So he had to impress an entire 500 chinese audience as a foreigner (who did not speak chinese and had to have a translator the entire time). He took 1st place for this episode and won the Chinese hearts! They had the biggest viewing the night this aired and that is when literally overnight he became known!! He was runner up to Sandy Lam (who is very good and a 50 yr old national treasure). In reality he DID WIN as his Fandom is International and in the millions basically due to this show. Now in 2018 he was invited back as a guest and sang "Hello" (Lionel Ritchies). He has been in music school since he was 5 yrs old. He has continued his education and last year earned his Masters Degree and is currently working on his PHd in composition. He has a natural gift that he has worked his butt off for 22 yrs to continue to perfect. 💙🤗💙🤗💙

Dimash says that if you cut open his heart, you would find music. If you cut open his head, you would find music. He lives and breathes music. He is music. He literally sings all day long.

In live performances he's gone from C2 to D8 :)
A little backstory on this performance - he was a 22 year old relative unknown (outside Kazahkstan and the slavic region) who joined this show in China as the first non-Chinese performer the show had ever had. The other performers are all well known, successful Chinese singers. Producers hated the idea he would do a French song that was not upbeat and told him the audience would hate it. Dimash very politely refused to change his choice. This was the 1st episode of the season and producers would put the "weakest" singer first, then gear up to the strongest performer for the end. Dimash was sent out first.
Can you imagine the amount of pressure on this young man in a country where he doesn't speak the language, going first because you know the producers think you are the weakest, and also not having a chance to see at least one performance first to get a feel for the space and audience? He was the winner for that night. He also won the hearts of millions of new fans in China.

In interviews on Kazakh TV Dimash stated, that he wakes up at 5:00 AM, by 5:30 AM he has began doing 3 hours of vocal exercises (scales, arpeggios, lip bubbles etc.) That it before he even begins his workday in the studio, or at rehearsals for a concert. To improve lung capacity and breath control, he will either swim laps in a pool for 1 hour uninterrupted or hit the treadmill for a 5 km run. Sometimes, he will substitute that for a full-on 90 minute soccer match with his mates and their team (he has good ball skills). He doesn't drink, either! He will often works 12-14 hour days. He says he hates vacations. Dimash is the real deal, when it comes to showing how hard work and dedication will make you succeed! Dimash is a perfectionist and a workaholic.)

Lucas asked if Dimash likes what he does. He said in a livestream last year, "I am endlessly in love with music. If you open my heart you will find music. If you open my brain you will find music." There's plenty of video footage backstage before and after concerts, photo shoots and other behind the scenes moments where he sings little tunes that he improvises, or phrases from music he loves (Michael Jackson's music shows up a lot, and Pavarotti is another favorite). Igor Krutoy described him the following way: "Dimash literally breathes music. He never stops thinking about it." Dimash has consistently said that from as early as he could remember thinking about what he wanted to be when he grew up, he has wanted to be a professional singer--from as young as age 2-3 years old. He would have known that was possible as soon as he could understand the concept, because his parents are professional singers.
I'm so glad to hear that Lucas will be appearing often. As a professional musician myself, I really appreciate his perspective and insight!

When Dimash was just a toddler he carried cassette tapes with him everywhere, even into bed at night. His grandmother said that they would try to take them out of his hands once he fell asleep but he would start to cry, so they just let him sleep with them. I don't think he ever needed to be pushed to practice anything.... he does it because it's part of him. An interviewer asked him what he would do if he didn't sing and he said he never even considered any other profession. He also said that he's just as comfortable on stage as he is at home with his family. DIMASH = MUSIC!

Dimash, definitely wasn't forced to do this. He showed in early interest in all things music and his parents and grandparents helped him be the best in that area and if/when he wanted to do something else they would of helped him the best they could in that area.
Like his little sister, she doesn't want to do singing anymore. She wants to do dancing and to be a doctor I believe. And they are giving her they best they can in those areas.
That is why Dimash has so much passion, because it is his passion and not for anyone else.

There's a quote where he says very seriously "If you cut open my heart, you will see music. If you open my brain, you will also find music." It seems like in almost every casual video I've seen of him when he's standing around waiting to do something, he's humming, singing, beating on a table or desk like it's a drum, conducting music in his head...I really do believe that he lives for music.
I think that his respect for his elders, his stated desire to be the best he can be and an example for others has been shaped by his upbringing and the culture in which he lives, but there is no question in my mind but that those external influences struck a chord deep within his heart.
    Fun reaction, you two.

When you go triple platinum on your first release after the show, you don't complain about the hidden pre-conditions or bias in the show.
Kazakhstan is the northernmost -stan pinched between the other -stans and India to the south, Russia to the northwest and China to the northwest.
The other thing to remember is that he was the first act on the first night of the 2017 Singer series. The audience reaction is his score. He is in China and barely knows some traveling language. He is going up against established Chinese pros and he is the only amateur. He is singing in French to a Chinese audience.
This is such a high pressure situation and he comes through clean.

When he was about 3 yrs old, Dimash drew a picture from a dream he'd had. The drawing was of himself... on a stage with a mic, amps, pre-amps, and a gold record on the wall. All the details of a successful career in music. His favorite toy was a box of cassette tapes. He even slept with them. It's all he's ever wanted, so much so that he never even considered that he'd be anything else. I think that answers your question about whether he wanted this or someone else wanted it for him. 😊 It's who he is, through and through. ❤

Dimash definitely seems to enjoy singing and music. There are a bunch of clips of him backstage either singing or playing whatever instrument he can gets his hands on. In some of them he eventually even gets scolded to please be quiet lol. He doesn't really seem to enjoy the showbusiness stuff (like interviews and photoshoots), but I think he sees it as a necessary part of pursuing music as a career.

  • @laurentsalomonoriginals3438

He sings in French language here. The song, from French singer Daniel Balavoine, is about the search for the meaning of life. An Earthling is desperate to understand why he lives, why he dies, why he loughs, why he cries, and is attracted upward, higher and higher. The melody expresses these lyrics pretty well. Dimash is just incredible in sharing that emotion. Thanks for the reaction!

Dimash fame started at Slavianski Bazaar, in Vitebsk. (Dimash recently performed and acted as Jury Member at the 2021 Slavic Bazaar). Dimash won the Grand Prix of the Slavic Bazaar on 13 July 2015, with a score of 175 points out of 180. From this win and other notable performances, Dimash went on to participate in the I Am Singer in 2017. Dimash has stated recently and in the past, that it is the Slavic Bazaar that started his career on the current path.
During the three days of the Slavic Bazaar contest, he was the clear favorite of both the jury and audience. With his original renditions of the Kazakh folk song "Daididau", the Russian singer Alla Pugacheva's "Blizzard Again" (Russian: Опять Метель) and the French singer Daniel Balavoine’s "SOS d'un terrien en détresse", he gained wide recognition from the jury and Worldwide International Media from his Slavic Bazaar Grand Prix Win.

Might be interesting for you both to compare that version of SOS with the 2021 version, which demonstrates just how he continues to push his delivery of a song. By the way, it’s a very important song to him, partly because his performance of it in The Singer made him hugely famous literally overnight (they gave him bodyguards the following day), and partly because it’s associated with a close friend who tragically died in 2018.

    • @lolawants2008

He also chose to sing it differently, more intensity & power throughout in Slavic Bazaar, more vulnerability/delicacy on Singer. Probably 100 other varied choices music experts could tell me, but that’s the difference I feel. He himself is more vulnerable on Singer. Then his other SOS renditions from Tokyo Jazz, digital show, inauguration- he does something different with it each time. @@LoveDimashali It was my second favorite version even before I learned the performance was manipulated post production with pitch correction (which it probably didn't need). Although admittedly when I found that out it did knock it down a few pegs for me but leave it to Russian producers to not leave well enough alone. You don't need to be precisely on pitch for the human ear to perceive it as perfect. Many of Dimash's performances are not technically in perfect pitch all the way thru the song, but to the listener it practically undetectable (unless it's very sharp or flat or you are viewing the performance thru an audio analyzer). I'm sure Dimash would prefer audio engineers would just leave his performances alone, but depending on where he is it's not always under his control.

His mother is an operatic soprano, his father more of a pop/folk singer but the whole family sings together. He sang from being a toddler and started formal training aged 5.

Thank you 🙏. I have loved Dimash for years now. At first my family thought I was crazy, he was all I could talk about. So thanks….. His love and respect for all he comes in contact with, is a shining example for us all. Not sure if you know about when he was first in New York. There was a man that made him a very nice jewelry box. It was from a very important peace of wood. But the Man wanted to give it to him in person. The story is so cool and the out come was just as cool 😎💜💜💜💜💜

His vocal range is so wide... from baritone (even a bass in Stranger) to soprano. His low tones are so beautiful! And he can sing all kind of styles... ópera, pop, rock, folk, rap, ballades, metal... and all totally really enjoyable.

I enjoy you're reactions to Dimash, both of you. I've watched and read plenty on Dimash. His mom in and interview said she knew what he was going to be doing at age 4. He used to get on stage at the age when his parents performed and would bow and wave at the audience. He doesn't speak most of the languages he he sings in but he will be up all night to perfect singing in whatever language he's singing in. And he used to swim 3 hours a day in his youth to improve his lung capacity. He's dedicated and has been since young.

👉 This was a historic moment and the song of the songs for Dimash and us, his Dears (This is what Dimash calls us fans.) This song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' 1978, well known in French-speaking countries) and is one of the most difficult songs to sing and made Dimash a mega-star overnight.
In 2017 Dimash received a wild-card for the competition “The Singer” in China. He was the youngest participant of all time (22 years) and the first non-Chinese. Only professional, award-winning singers take part. Nobody knew or hear Dimash before and he also had to start first... and after this song Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 millions of viewers over night. The next day, bodyguards stood at his door.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds, over 4 months. The jury consists of 500 spectators. With up to 1 billion people see this tv-program, that's generated international interest. The performances were uploaded to CZcams... and so, we became Dimash’s Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned that Dimash would survive two episodes of the competition and go home again. They didn't really believe in him. But Dimash came, sang and stayed... for the next 3 years in China... but he only finished second in the competition because he's not Chinese (conditions have changed: The next year, Jessie J. won).
👉 In January 2021 Dimash was one of the few foreigners who has been asked to attend the live online show marking the inauguration of the President of U.S.A. Joe Biden. He is here as a representative of his country Kazakhstan and he is also here for his Dears from all over the world. This is the first time in the 67-year history of the Sister Cities and the first time since relations between the United States and the concentration camp began (almost 30 years ago) that an artist from Kazakhstan has attended such an event.
    Dimash performed:
    S.O.S. - czcams.com/video/sE-9fQTFyas/video.html and
    Samaltau - czcams.com/video/OLrFs0WRxgY/video.html
    👉 S.O.S (2012-2019) VOICE EVOLUTION (FULL PERFORMANCES) - czcams.com/video/uFbV_FeSwc8/video.html
    S.O.S (2012-2019) (short version) - czcams.com/video/m2uR35xRRJU/video.html 🌼🇩🇪
👉 SOS from an earthling in distress
Why do I live, why do I die?
Why do I laugh, why do I cry?
    This is the SOS
    of an earthling in distress
    I was never well-grounded
I would rather be a bird
    I feel ill with myself
I would like to see the world upside down
if by any chance it were nicer from above
    from above
    I always mixed-up life
    with cartoons
Sometimes, I do have like a need to metamorphose
    I feel something
    attracting me
    attracting me
    attracting me upwards
at the lottery of the universe,
I didn't get the right number
    I feel ill with myself
    Ohhh
if by any chance it were nicer
    I feel ill with myself
    from above
Why do I live, why do I die?
Why do I laugh, why do I cry?
    I think I receive waves
    coming from another world
    I was never well-grounded
if by any chance it were nicer
    nicer from above
if by any chance it were nicer
    sleep child, sleep

Loving this double reaction. Just one thing, and maybe someone else has already commented, but he applied to be on The Singer, which as you said, is a Chinese singing competition. The difference between this competition and The Voice/American Idol/etc, is that this is a singing competition for already established artists (for example, Jessie J was on this, can't remember which year). Dimash was I believe the first non-Chinese singer to be "allowed" on the show, and his life basically changed after the very first song (SOS), he was the first contestant on the first episode. It was after that, that he became famous in China practically overnight. And

Thank you! This is very enjoyable to watch :) Love hearing your thoughts and observations. This is the 1st song & performance for the majority of Dears. This is what introduced most of us to Dimash. He has continued from his late teens to work on this song and he improves with each performance. This is from 2017 and he was just 23yrs old. This one is gold for all of us though. :) On this show, Dimash was invited in as a wild card contestant. He was the only one that was not Chinese and he was the youngest. And this performance of S.O.S. was the very 1st performance of that seasons show!!! Dimash became known world wide after this performance. It is epic.

You must show him one of Dimash's traditional Kazakh songs. Daididau from the Bastau concert was extremely emotional and you will notice near the start of his singing, he has only one ear piece in, then he removes the second and he is pointing at it trying to alert that it is not working. He tries one more time to insert the in ear piece but takes it out again and continues to sing the entire song without either and does it to perfection. At the end you will see he is almost overwhelmed with emotion as he is singing in front of his countrymen and it is a very very large crowd.

You're absolutely correct my friend he pulls from a ton of different music genres Michael Jackson is also one of his favorite artists of all time and you will hear different style flavors in his songs because that's how he displays his emotions through his songs and you're right he did sound like an 80s rock legend when he did that yell absolutely correct well said brother. I absolutely enjoyed this reaction better than any other channel reaction to SOS I've ever seen including my own reaction by the way...lol Fantastical I love the gleam on your faces as you see this man at the apex of near perfection in his music.

SOS, is a song from Starmania, a Canadian-French cyberpunk rock opera written in 1976. This is a song about depression & thoughts of suicide. Enjoy the journey, you've only just begun. .

S.O.S. of a Soul in Distress
Why do I live, why do I die?
Why do I laugh, why do I cry?
Here is the SOS of a man in distress

I've never had both feet upon the ground
    I'd rather be a bird
I don't fit into this skin
I'd like to see the world turned upside down
    If ever it were beautiful
It's lovelier from above, from above
    I've always confused life
    with the comic strips
    Even wished I could transform
    I feel something
    That draws me
    That draws me
    That draws me up

Into the great lotto of the universe
I don't have the right numbers
I don't fit into this skin
    I don't want to be a robot
    Eating, working, sleeping

Why do I live, why do I die
Why do I live, why do I cry
    I think I'm catching waves
    From another world
I've never had both feet upon the ground
    I'd rather be a bird
I'd like to see the world turned upside down
    I'd rather be a bird

Dimash is the ONLY singer on the planet that gives me tears, shivers, goosebumps, heart and breath stopping everytime I listen to him, he must be an angel as NO singer ever did that to me, he deserves a Grammy, Oscar and many more..

I like to call him a quad combos. He's gifted + it's genetic + formal educations + hardwork. Who can beat that?

I really liked your reaction and especially your discussion. Good questions, wise insights. Thank you! Yes, Dimash is enjoying what he's doing, he often speaks about that. I've seen his old interviews and I think working hard is natural to him since very young. Not only he is a workaholic, he is a perfectionist too... First of all, he loves what he's doing, in many ways. He loves making music - all kind of music. Dimash is an independent artist just to keep his creative freedom. So he can do what he's really interested in. He loves his family which always supports him. Dimash's father is his producer and takes care for practical issues so Dimash can focus to the creative work. Dimash is a patriot who loves his country. He has set one of his goals to bring his country Kazakhstan, its music and culture, to the world. Other goal is to promote peace... Dimash loves to perform and connect to his audience. He has said that he rests on stage - it charges him. He truly is a passionate performer. He seems to live his songs, even those he likely has practiced carefully. He transforms on stage - so much so that his mother told she can't sometimes recognize him. And when it comes to the content of his songs... You are right - Dimash can convey the emotions of the song, even when a listener can't understand the words. The stage and his acting help a lot in this. But it's always worth knowing the actual lyrics. Often they are deep and poetic, and they also explain why he sang as he did. As an artist and a person, Dimash has so much substance. He does everything sincerely, from his heart and with a 100% effort. Nothing is superfluous but deep, meaningful, even spiritual... I love that.
