Sand is rarely if ever used here in ireland. Its extra work putting it in and scraping it out and it causes more trouble when its in the slurry pit. Some American farms seem to be sand processing plants with a dairying sideline. Why not use cubicle mats? Scrape them down and give them a handfull of cubicle lime (not ground limestone) Comfort for the cow, convenience for the farmer
Those pieces get into the animals hoof fracjs and nostrils and eyes and ears. How is that safe. And after continued use work it's way into their skin folds and cause abscesses.
