Always enjoy your videos. You show the beautiful part of Mauritius that others do not show. Will be nice if you can show us the rural and farming areas. masha ALLAH

I’m British-Mauritian and I’m not going to lie, I’m not a big fan of the country. It seems as if I’m related to everyone and for some strange reason, the older generations get quite offended that even though I was born in the U.K., I can speak Mauritian-Creole fluently even if it has a hint of the British accent and, as far as they are concerned we aren’t “Mauritian”, but I don’t pretend to be, I know where I’m from, but they don’t get it, yes I was born outside Mauritius but brought up in the dual Mauritian/British household and culture. They don’t understand that I may hold the same values of a typically Mauritian because both my parents were from Mauritius. We also have a Mauritian community here in the U.K. . My young sister and I always said that our first language wasn’t English until we started school, and that was during the 1970s when racism was truly bad in London. And naturally our parents being Mauritian, they spoke Creole at home, strangely I still think in Creole in my mind and very proud of being a British-Mauritian. Oh, and another point, racism, thankfully in the U.K. attitudes has changed greatly and us people are more tolerant, however, honestly the first time I felt racism aimed at me wasn’t in the U.K., it was in 1991 when my family and I had visited the “family” out in Mauritius, it was my first time as an adult and I actually understood why my parents had left their homeland in the mid 1960s. The family out there are awful, my mum is light-skinned Creole and my dad was dark-skinned Indian, the best parents ever but their family, what can I say, the Indians hated the Creoles and vice-versa, and both side of the families were fighting for our company, and slagging off each ethnic groups, but I’m both and it was horrible. This is probably why I can’t stand the thoughts of going to Mauritius again, and since my parents and younger sister has passed away, I’ve severed ties with families out there. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very proud to be a British-Mauritian but can’t stomach having negative extended families, even with those living around the world because of this deep-seated racism crap

Before the independence thousands flew away to Australia as well. But it was a fear for nothing.
