    Hi John. Here is what I do with an extra wire end that might short. Take the very end of the wire, fold it over about a 1/2 or 3/4 of an inch, and put heat shrink over the looped end, and shrink it down with heat. Easy-schmeasy.

    I really like what you did with the speaker enclosure. Also, that is pretty handy to have the springs on the speakers for the wires. Thats for the beginners perspective to this install, it was very helpful. And I agree, it sounds very good!

    • @tsgmultimedia
      @tsgmultimedia  Před 6 lety +2

      It was funny - the first time I used one of those 50321 speakers I didn't notice what the springs were for. Then I examined it more closely and figured it out. They are exceptionally handy for hooking up the wires without having to solder. The only drawback is that they poke up making the thickness of the enclosure assembly an extra 5mm tall. That really matters in tight spaces.

    I like your homemade cradle. For a long time I used my miter box with some foam folded over as a homemade cradle.

    I would reccomend Scale Sound Systems which has great speakers

    Ive found that ESU + Suger Cube speakers have static. Best way to remedy is put on a good sound file and make sure the speaker is oriented just like you had it....using the shell as a secondary baffle produces amazing results. You can even tell the diffrence by cuping a hand around the speaker before fully installing.

      Thanks - that is the intention. At some point I am planning to add things like the time it takes and a "fun" rating, as suggested by a viewer recently. I am still trying to figure out how to have it all make sense.

    Enjoyed this one John. I agree with your rationale of getting it running, and then revisit as your skill set improves. It appears to me that there is quite a bit of space for a larger speaker under the cab.....

      I think Ken told me his HO run was 12 feet (at least at one point in time) and he has used a small crane on his podcast programs. I'd be surprised if he didn't use the same crane for some of his outdoor shots.

    good job you did. Good decision 👏👍 to go with ESU Loksound you will never regret it. The sugar cube speaker is a good decision too. They often sound 🔊 much better than bigger speakers. The sound of your loco is crisp and loud enough. There is no need to improve it, for my opinion. 🙏

    I just used the very same parts to install sound in one of my Australian locos this week. (My first attempt to install sound.) I wish it was as easy as this installation! I also wish I had waited a week, because I didn't know about those spring things on the speaker, so I soldered mine. But after all is said and done, I'm a big fan of LocSound decoders and sugar cube speakers. Nice video. PS The decoder comes at 180 on CV63, and I find 75 or 80 is loud enough.

      I am planning to do an install into an Athearn F59PHI at some point and those things have quite a bit of space. Right now I plan to install one speaker with a big enclosure. I have heard multiple speakers and it sounds really neat!

  • @budgetwebsiteservice
    @budgetwebsiteservice Před 6 lety +1

    Although the sugar cube speakers produce a good sound if mounted correctly, the best sound will always come from fitting the largest speaker you can in any particular loco. You should have just got a correctly sized speaker to fit the aperture.. Speakers cost peanuts compared to the cost of sound decoders...

    • @tsgmultimedia
      @tsgmultimedia  Před 6 lety +1

      I am thinking about opening the model back up sometime and mounting the cube with some foam tape. Just having it stuck to something might help it sound a little better too.

    OK I see what you where doing. IT's nice that it work out good .But for me with this kind of stuff easy is better. And after the programming it did sound real good. I would leave it alone .Sent's it sound's so good .When I mess with loco's I think i might brake sum thing. so I try to say away from working on them if i can. Nice job on the install.

    This might’ve been overlooked but there’s a 21 pin plug located in the bottom of the motherboard. Additionally there’s speaker leads on the motherboard for wiring to there instead of the decoder. Just sayin…

    So is the speaker just laying on the styrene sheet with 'gravity' holding it in place? Seems like some loss of frequency if the speaker is not mounted rigid. Remember 'For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction'. Each voice coil response to move the speaker you have a counter action unless the cube is batten down and restricted from moving. My 2 cents.

    • @tsgmultimedia
      @tsgmultimedia  Před 6 lety +2

      Yes! I mentioned in another comment that I'm going to open that loco back up and secure the speaker with a piece of foam tape.

      One of my current themes is modeling on a budget. I used what I had to get the job done and it wasn't a big deal. That way I didn't have to spend any extra money, go out searching for the part, or wait for something to arrive. The result was the goal, not necessarily conforming to my OCD tendencies to make it perfect. :D

    • @tsgmultimedia
      @tsgmultimedia  Před rokem +1

      He is mistaken. This model was "DCC Ready" and when this video was made, it sold for about 120 bucks. If you are referring to the product reviews we did a number of years ago, keep in mind that the prices quoted in that series are MSRP. No one ever paid $280 for an Atlas MP15DC. If they did, it was heavily modified or they got overcharged.
