    Neil has been the soundtrack of my life and I've seen him in so many variations, backing musicians and even solo acoustic, he's not the best singer, not the best guitar player nor has he ever tried to be, but when I hear his music I know it's going to be real and honest, warts and all. I've talked to one of his sons about model trains (H.O.R.D.E. Festival) seen his son Ben and his daughter Amber (Greendale and other shows) and he's a real person that's lived a real life...

    Good music, lyrics utter nonsense. "Hate was just a legend/And war was never known." The Aztecs made war upon their own people with human sacrifices to their gods. In 1487, when about 80,400 prisoners were killed over four days. Young's simplistic, childlike lyrics in the song depict a world that never was.

    • @bookhouseboy280
      @bookhouseboy280 Před 8 měsíci +2

      In Jimmy McDonough’s biography of Young, Shakey, he asked the Canadian troubadour if any of his songs were autobiographical, to which Young responded: “What the fuck am I doing writing about Aztecs in ‘Cortez the Killer’ like I was there, wandering around? ‘Cause I only read about it in a few books. A lotta shit I just made up because it came to me.” ... you could argue that the song is almost certainly an allegory for the end of Young and Snodgress’s relationship... - Far Out Magazine

    PLEASE don’t believe the bullshit you find online, as most of it is pure deceit. This is a GREAT sounding song. The pace, melody, guitars-everything-is wonderful . . . Except the horrifically childish and silly lyrics. Cortez may have been a conqueror, but thank God for him in this instance. The people who settled Central and South America certainly had their own way of life, but know that the culture promoted the torture and wholesale slaughter of children. Please understand that this was a culture of death. Cortez, far from some kind of monster, was actually a hero in bringing some semblance of reason and good sense to a people who killed their own children for a Sun god. Neil You g is a great pop-rock-folk musician, but his music is often sidetracked by deceitful politics. It’s nonsense.
