Such a delicate video, the music, the filming. I have never understoon how people can be so thoughtless and keep fish in a small container. Bought a betta in a cup last week, let it go in my pond. Haven't seen him since, hope he is having fun in the new enormous space.

Hopefully you add some hides and ledges for this guy to rest on.! It would of helped with him acclimating to the tank and relieved a lot of stress from a new tank that’s a lot of open space could cause over stress in some fish. Jus be aware and careful when rehabilitating the fishes

I rescued a Betta once...his water was half evaporated in the cup. I asked them politely to add water and took him home. He lived out his life in a ten gallon aquarium!

The other day I was at a new pet store in my area (I don’t remember its name) and I saw a beta that looked terrible but unfortunately I wasn’t able to save it because I don’t have the skills or experience so I knew it would have just ended up dying, plus my parents definitely wouldn’t have let me but it’s great you were able to save this one!

Pet smart always gets labels wrong. That fish is actually a white opal plakat. I appreciate what you did saving a betta from abuse but just wanted to say that the fish you have wasn’t terribly sick and dying, just a little stunned.

Thanks for saving him. I personally think that grass on the bottom is way to thick. Bettas are known for exploring & I think he could get easily get trapped in the grass & drown.

Betas don't need to be drip acclimated, they're pretty tough. Just for futher reference. And he's not a blue mustard gas. Still a very pretty fish though and lucky to have gotten out of that bowl. I'd be careful how much flake food you give. I lost all my girls because I went on vacation with auto feeder on. When I got back most were already gone and the last one had bloat so bad I couldn't save her. For some reason Bettas just don't do well with flakes. Everyone else was fine in the tank. Only the bettas didn't make it.

@Mark Ulis But every other fish in the tank was fine. I had a bunch of ember tetras, white clouds, khil loaches, and Otto's. If it were bacteria it should have effected everyone.

Really cool thing to save a fish like this, if you can afford it, you should give him a hiding place, like a hollow rock or a plastic ship, or even better some long leaf plants in the back of the tank to hide among, not being able to hide, even if they don’t need to, can stress fish out a lot and detract from their health, but that’s all I can add, great job otherwise!

Its not rescuing, no more than buying a puppy from a puppy farm/mill is 'rescuing'. You are merely lining their pockets and opening a space for yet another poor, unfortunate animal to fill, completing the cycle.
If people broke this cycle by NOT 'rescuing' then there would be no demand, and supply would dry up.

I tried this twice with two bettas both over 20$ and they both died so I’m gana say my local has a bad selection my tank was cycled with other fish in it doing fine

You need to treat them first actually. They can be infected with many things, like parasite, fin rot, pop eye. So we need to keep them in a quarantine tank and treat them. Few days of salt treatment with good heating system will make them better in no time. Unless they are way sick.

You are doing the fish no favours here. You have just caused the shop to order in more fish to replace it. If you care about saving the fish you need to complain to the shop managers and owners about how they are keeping them... and get some public awareness. Contact some animal charities or make you tube videos showing the state of the fish in the shop. All you did here is encourage other people to guy and buy betta fish from these shops to 'rescue' them... making the problem worse.
