- First time in Sequoia National Park since I was a little kid! I head to Sequoia National Park to take a day to see the park with a stop at Tunnel Log (not rock), Sherman Tree Trail, Giant Forest Museum area! After a long day traveling around the park I took a Forest Service Road near Big Meadows.

You are doing more and more beautiful videos! 👌🎥 keep going
Thanks so much Anthony! I really appreciate you saying that. I’m really trying.
Duane great channel & videos, mother nature soothes the soul !
You know Dan it really does. I’m thinking of taking some time during the thanksgiving holiday to explore some more. Thanks for watching!
“Ice cream, which wasn’t a good idea.”😂😂😂 I know!😳
It sure seemed likens good idea at the time!!! Lol
Yessir!
Awesome!!!
Thanks for watching! 👍🏻
Great video! The next hack for Google maps is to label Points of interest. So long as you download the map section your POI is on it will work offline.
I use these to mark campsites and waypoints for hikes.
Outstanding! I’ll out that to use this weekend - we’ll depending on the fires. One just popped up on my side 👎🏻. Thanks for checking it out! Had I brought and used the GoPro I probably would’ve had your trailer in the video!
just got back from crescent city CA. those trees are frigg'n huge!!!!
Yeah, I was really hoping to head back out there last week but was a bit too far for us to head out. I would LOVE to spend a week or two in that area!
This video brings back some great memories of our vacation to Sequoia.
It really is a beautiful place I just wish I was closer to it! I hope you and your family can get out on a great adventure soon! 🏕
Love chilling with you on your adventures! 🍻
Thanks so much Philip I really appreciate you checking it out!
another gem! It’s been years since I was up to sequoia via the 198. Beautiful! Thank for posting and taking us with you.
Thanks so much I really appreciate you checking it out. Honestly I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to go up there. My pass is still valid for a couple weeks so been trying to pack some last minute trips. But after that they’ve opened up the military passes to veterans so I’ll get that one.
@@dustyroaddestinations get it! Kings canyon is my favorite, and if you have not been, I highly recommend.
Well I got almost there and panicked because I wasn’t sure I had the gas to make it there and back. So I turned around and headed to Hume Lake for gas. Then I was out of time and started the long trek home. I will definitely head back up there though.
Wow so beautiful . Your on a traveling spree Duane 😄
Thanks! Yeah I’m trying to get out there more and be more creative! Thanks for watching!
It is so beautiful! Thank u for taking us along with you! ♥️ If I had wheels I would want to go somewhere just as beautiful if I were able.
Well I’m glad I can take you virtually along then. Hopefully you can get mobile in the future and have your own adventure. Fortunately with the national Parks they are really easy to drive.
Hey Duane!! My first time at sequoia park was this year around March. Spent a good amount of time at the general Sherman tree. What a beautiful tree it is. Took my wife and 2 teenage kids. They loved it. What an experience. It's a shame that we had the fire here in Sequoia. Stay safe friend. Happy camping!!
Greetings Tommie! I'm so glad I made it over there this summer - I haven't been since I was a little kid. I didn't even think about a fire ripping through there. I wish I would have spent more time. I thought I'd head over there again with my youngest and it just didn't happen and then it caught on fire. General Sherman tree was REALLY cool and I hope they were able to save it - well most of the park.
Lovely. Thanks, Duane. Those trees remind me of the huge mountain ash trees in the area of my childhood. Great memories.
That wonderful! Those giant trees are just surreal. They almost seem like a movie prop or something like that.
How did you download google maps to your canyon truck
Hi William, depends on what you're asking but let me see if I can cover all the potentials. First, my truck the basic radio BUT it supports Apple Car Play - so when I run Google Maps on my phone it displays it, and I can control it, on the head unit. Then I download the areas I want to go on my phone when I'm in/on coverage/wifi. It's kind of a pain and most of the time I have to look it up but I think this is how to do it. In google maps, click on your icon in the top right near the search bar. The click "offline maps", then "select your own map", and from there draw the box around the area you want. Offline maps are awesome. Oh if you have Android my truck has support for that as well. Let me know if that covers what you were looking for William!
Any wild animals like bears?
The only wild animals I've seen are deer and squirrels. I've been keeping an eye out on bear though and trying to make sure I store the food properly. Fortunately out here we only have black/brown bears and they are not very aggressive - grizzly bears are a different story altogether!
You might like to know about this. It's a rather long blog post, but if you scroll down to the map you'll see a forest road IN the park where you can camp for free legally.. The road is highlighted in yellow. I've looked at it a million times on Google Earth and hope to to try it in the fall: www.oldwomaninavan.com/free-camping-near-sequoia-national-park/
Thanks so much Vicky that was a good read! The funny thing that is exactly where I camped. Near Big Meadows. It was really nice and amazingly that was the first spot I had cell coverage. I hope you can check it out yourself! 👍🏻
@@dustyroaddestinations From your video, I didn't realize that. When you said at one point, you had four-hour drive, I figured you left the park through one of the main exit points. Now, I have more evidence it's a good spot. Thank you.
Oh that’s a great point! Initially I thought I was going to drive back to the parts of sequoia that I was familiar with and camped at before. But as it turned out I came across that other place as I was heading out. I definitely should’ve clarified that in the video….
Common mistake. The road highlighted is actually OUTSIDE the park in Sequoia National FOREST. Still a good place to camp, however.
Hi Duane, do you record on dslr or iphone? Are you using external mic?
Hi Filip, most of this was shot on a Sony a6600 with a Deity D4 Duo. There were about 6 clips shot on an iPhone. Buy the phones work really well nowadays and there are a lot of people that have done their entire channels with iPhones with maybe a drone and GoPro.
@@dustyroaddestinations Thank you.
Are you thinking of starting to film stuff Filip???
@@dustyroaddestinations Yeah, I love outdoor life as much as you do, I have some old a6000 and external zoom h5 mic.
Sony sure does make some great stuff! I used to use an external recorder but it just got to complicated. Getting out is great therapy for the soul! Hope you can get one and maybe even record some stuff!
