  • A quick video of how to make a canoe carrying yoke. The wood is pine and sealed with boiled linseed oil. It is bolted into my old Mad River Explorer 16.
Next big project will be an other knife making video, so subscribe for more video's.

very nice yoke. i like it! i have to make one for a solo canoe. i may use two cedar boards that run length ways between the thwarts. i love linseed oil. i just refinished a paddle, hand made in the early 60's. hand sanded then buffed with steel wool then sealed with linseed oil.

where is the best placement on a 16ft canoe? I'm all over this project thanks for the video work.

Depends on the canoe. Asymmetric canoes have a different weigh balance. My tip would be to make the yoke stick out, lay it on the gunnel and then try to find the balance point. I hope this is clear, but just keep playing until you find the best point for you. You can temporarily fix the yoke to the gunnel with a glueing clamp
