  • This Dewulf Potato4CE [Force] is the successor to the recently unveiled Dewulf Enduro, this unique and rare harvester (one of only three units) is build in 2004 and is still lifting yearly the potatoes at arable farm Lakwijk Agro in the south west of the Netherlands. Harvesting in this video takes place in very wet conditions and on heavy sea clay, that is why the utmost is asked about the cleaning capacity of the harvester.

    That's an impressive piece of equipment. Why were there only 3 ever made? And how did this guy get one? And is it still supported/repairable?

    • @Skorpychan
      @Skorpychan Před 3 lety +5

      Very limited market for very expensive equipment. So, presumably, they only make a handful every year.

    • @surlyogre1476
      @surlyogre1476 Před 3 lety +2

      "Is it still supported/repairable?" It appears to be made from commonly available agricultural/industrial component parts... engine, transmission(s), axles, and etc.
      The biggest part of the machine is the frame. That would have been custom-built, but should be (relatively) easy to repair, or modify, as needed.

    • @antonwoudwijk3448
      @antonwoudwijk3448 Před rokem

      As this is two years later im still gonna respond this machine is the first self propelled 4 row potato harvester made as why theres onlty three made would be doubts and problems that came out the machine wasnt performing to what they wanted, many of the parts from the pull type 2 row variations would be used making it quite easy to get parts for, yes support is still available from dealers and this guy probably bought one new when they brought the idea or first lineup or second hand

    • @antonwoudwijk3448
      @antonwoudwijk3448 Před rokem

    I presume there is a certain amount of soil stuck to the potatoes? Is this replaced in some way either with manure or similar? Over the years it would mean loosing a lot of soil from the field otherwise?? (I know nothing about farming BTW)

    • @Mothana808
      @Mothana808 Před 3 lety +1

      Not loosing as much as u think because the machine throws back the soil but still there is a bit stuck yes and no they dont replace it

    • @gijsvermuntagrifotografie
      @gijsvermuntagrifotografie Před 3 lety +3

      At the end of the day they usually load up dirt that they collect at the farm, and dump it back in the field. Or by spreading manure/compost a little gets added back.

    • @archie_-zv8xc
      @archie_-zv8xc Před 3 lety +1

      you would never keep potatoes on the same field over consecutive years anyway as it increases risk of eel worm (i think) or some disease that lives in the soil for years.

    • @archie_-zv8xc
      @archie_-zv8xc Před 3 lety

      @@gijsvermuntagrifotografie I work for a potato grower. Fairly new to it all but I’m pretty sure I’m correct. Eel worm lives in the soil for upto 6 years and is susceptible to it after 2 years of growing them on one field. I’m talking about the UK so may be different elsewhere. The amount of erosion and nutrient depletion over consecutive years of potatoes wouldn’t do the field much good either!

    Picking nits here, but if this machine (Potato4ce) was built in 2004 and the DeWulf Enduro was only recently introduced... wouldn't that make the Potato4ce the _predecessor_ of the Enduro and the Enduro is the successor of Potato4ce.
