- How to Plant Grow & Harvest HEALTHY GINGER - Containers soil & Aquaponics
Hi Folks. Ginger would have to be in the top 3 plants I enjoy growing in our patch. Not only is it easy to grow but requires little maintenance and is also one of those spices that always taste so much better when used straight from the patch. Would be great to hear from you if you have a crack at growing some this season.

Wow nice work
Show what you talk.
I don't think one could find a better ginger video on the Internet Bob! Outstanding buddy.
Thanks Brent. đ You ever grown it there ?
Cheers mate.
I have tried it and it wasn't a great result. We don't eat a lot of it however so I'd love to grow it just 'cause, but otherwise, more tomatoes, squash, or beans!
From the UK - THANK YOU! I have never seen something so informative on growing ginger which has also been applied to a far cooler clime like the UK. Just to see the size of the plant and it's natural growing habit is a real eye opener for me. Thank you :)
Hope you get a good harvest if you have a crack at growing some Dormousey. đđ
Excellent and informative. Particularly like the way you cater for those in cooler climates. You told me exactly the details I had been looking for.
Another amazing video. You give so much information in each clip that I usually watch them two or three times and take notes. Thanks for all you do for those of us who are trying to grow our own food and medicine.
Hi Kate & thanks.
Am glad you've found the clip helpful. Do you grow ginger at the moment?
Cheers & all the best.

Valuable info on planting ginger.I really love ginger and want to grow my own..Thank you for sharing.
Am glad it's helped you out some Debra. đI'm working on a new planting clip at the moment that shows last years crop going in & being harvested as well. Hope to have it uploaded this weekend all going well.
Have a great one.
Hi Rob. Harvested my ginger and turmeric today. Planted October in Melbourne, but no warm days till after Christmas so slow growing season. 523gm new ginger root and 260gm turmeric. Galangal survived but didn't grow much (about 50gm). Thanks for the advice earlier.
Hey Russell. 500+ isn't a bad yield. I got around the same amount from a plant we harvested a few weeks back.
Are you going to have another crack this season?
Cheers & have a top one mate.
Thanks for your videos Rob. They have given me the confidence to grow my own crop of ginger. Your videos are very informative and cover alot of relevant information, keep up the good work!
Happy growing CZ. đ±đ±đ±đ±

Rob
I let mine go to a two year growth. I was wondering how to get more from what I'm currently growing, but you answered that. I will leave a peice or two behind and not water it over winter. Great video, covers it all :)
Thank you for the awesome video!
Great information. Ginger's such an amazing source of flavor and so healthy.
I always feel so inspired after watching your videos to someday have a backyard garden, but for now, will try to do some balcony gardening in my small apartment!
Thant's great to hear Van. Did you plant out some ginger?
Cheers.
Rob.
I bought some ginger and thought I was going to eat it... but unlike those that came before it, it desperately wanted to live and started growing in the kitchen cabinet, in a dark and cold basement apartment, without any soil or water, like a boss.
That plant deserves to live a long and happy life, so thanks for a highly informative video!
I'm glad it's helped you out some Lars.
happy growing mate.
@@GravefriHave I'm afraid I don't have an outside space where I can put potted plants for acclimatization in order to eventually move them into the garden I also don't have.
I only have an inside space where I can keep plants, in a basement... So I've given my plant the pet name "Zingiber fudamentum" đ€·
I just couldn't find a latin word that directly translates to basement..
Thanks for an informative video! Iâm in Canada, zone 7/8 and I was able to glean enough info from your tips to help me get an idea what I should do to winter the rhizomes. Thanks so much!
Glad it was helpful SQS.đ
Cheers & happy Growing. đ±đ±
thank you so very much ..been a great help and I greatly appreciate all you have taught me xx

Thank you for sharing this information! I purchased some ginger to grow, and the directions were very vague. I have managed to not kill this plant, and am very excited to finally have a successful harvest! Thank you so much for helping me keep my ginger alive!!!
I hope you get a great harvest Heather. đđ±đ±

Thanks for sharing your kmowledge on growing ginger. You always have very interesting topics. Keep it up.
Thank you Claudette. Am glad you're enjoying the clips.
Cheers & all the best.
Rob.
I grew ginger indoors in the uk, makes an unusual houseplant. I used the leaves for making tea. I just looked in the supermarket for rhyzomes with green growing points, and ones that haven't been recently broken. If plants got too big I put them into larger containers on a sheltered balcony.
Nice one Stephen. Did you get much of a root develop?
Isn't it a gorgeous house plant?
And the flowers fill the room with such a lovely scent. Grow mine in the shower under a skylight on a shelf. One square foot. Small splash curtain and shelf keep it soap free. Candied ginger leaf for sore throats, yum. Loves the steam and moisture and makes it easy to maintain. I add grow lights to extent the day or increase the days natural light. Didn't flower for two years. In the frozen northwest usa.
Am impressed by your very informative vid. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all others out there like myself! May it always go well with you and yours.
Thanks Pierre.
Cheers & all the best.
Rob.
Mr. Beard, just the video I needed! I am planting ginger this season. Never tried before. We live near Chicago, IL and your video has definitely helped. God bless you and your family, Rob!
Mr Beard wishes you all the best with the ginger Adam. đđ
All the best to you & yours as well mate,
Rob.
Just watching this now. Weâre in Chicago, too. How âd it turn out?
Any luck? I'm trying in Northwest Indiana less than 2 hours away from you.
Wow, this was so informative and helpful! Thank you! I want to grow quite a bit of ginger for just being a home gardener. Most videos just give very vague info that would apply to nearly any plant. appreciate the tips!
Hi Christa. Am glad the clip has been able to help you out some & that you grow some spectacular plants.
Cheers & happy growing,
Rob. .đ
Thanks for the very informative video! - I decided to give it a try this year (which was, seeing a fantastic spring and now early summer with temps up to 27-28 C in the day - which is, for end of may, beginning of june, incredible - a great idea). I live in western austria, on 700m above sea level. I started the project with organic ginger from peru in the beginning of february in my heated greenhouse, but they decided to start appearing at least 1,5-2 months later. Now, since nights are not below 12-14 degrees, I planted them out, and I can watch them growing every day - the largest ones are around 35-40cm in height. I cutted the rhizoms in pieces and had around 40 small pots in the end, which resulted in 38 bigger or larger strong plants. I am now cultivating them in my rised bed, in good, rich compost soil, mixed with horse fertilizer pellets plus organic guano with stone flour (??), covered with chopped straw from my last year giant garden reeds. The only not so ideal thing is, that they are getting 70% sun over the day, with a little more shadow in the late afternoon/evening hours - maybe too much sun. So I cross fingers for a long, warm summer!
That's fantastic to hear Alf. đđ Would be great if you could keep me updated and let us know how the harvest goes for you.
Cheers & happy growing Alf. đ±đ±
Thank you for the detailed information on growing ginger
I'm glad you enjoyed it Asha. đ
Great Video. I love how Rob gives great info and in a easy to digest way. Too many hipsters out there only interested in being seen and getting attention, Rob is not one of them :) Keep them videos coming, very very helpful. Thank you.

Cheers & happy growing. đ±đ±
Great video my friend..I just visited Colombia...over in a place they called " El Eje Cafetero " where they grow a lot of coffee plus many delicious fruits. It's about in the heart of Colombia it self. Great climate , we found out how the campesinos grow ginger and many other plants and vegetables, fantastic trip. The ginger has a beautiful flower too.
They do through some spectacular flowers Marcel. đ

Happy growing.
I dehydrate smaller slices then take it to work with me. Any stress related stomach upset and I add it to my tea. It works in minutes so I can get back to work.
At home I store it in a glass container covered with sherry. When I need it I slice it up and add a bit of the ginger sherry for a boost.
Nice on Jody. Bianca uses it in her teas & I've added some of ours to gin just for a bit of added zing.
Cheers & all the best.
Thanks so much for the great info!
No problem Laura & hope it helps you grow a ton of Ginger. đ

Rob Bob's Backyard Farming & Aquaponics yeah cheers Rob nice and plump! still a few months of growing season left to go
Excellent clip on ginger Rob!! Loved the way you you skillfully navigated your way through the topic covering various aspects đđ. I have some growing in a 16 inch wide pot in about an hour of sun ( the least sunny spot in all my 5 windows) since November, around 7 shoots growing . hopefully I'll have a ginger harvest in the next few months.
Hi MBG. Is great that you fond some space to grow some for yourself & hope the rhizome fill out nicely for you. Does it grow all year round there in Mumbai or does it die back during the cooler months ?
Cheers đ
Unfortunately we don't really have cooler months any more , may be 4 to 6 weeks of 20 Celsius weather around December and January. Most folks here harvest their ginger before the monsoons in June and plant fresh rhizomes post monsoons in August. But yes one can grow through the year đ.
Your channel makes me want to do farming which is a satisfying piece of work
Thanks. Am gald you're enjoying the clips.
Have a top one Jenell73
