when she says "the more conversations i have about my ocd, the less power i feel my ocd have over me". i loved it so much, it really shows the importance of the diagnosis and to name what we feel to learn how to cope

The academic anxiety and intense germaphobia is unfortunately so relatable. I have also developed orthorexia. I just wish I could wake up one day and be normal again.

This interview was excellent. personally, i think people who cope with this disorder explain it much better than scientists/psychotherapists. Marie, thank you so much for sharing about your case. The only con i see is that people often assume ocd is ONLY compulsive (only the visible behaviours). I have Pure ocd, this one is not visible to others, but the mind is constantly worrying/reviewing/questioning and seeing things i dont want to think about. Its really exhausting, it changes my personality and affects my socialization and functional capacity so much. People dont know much about this type, not even therapists...

I’ve been diagnosed for about 3 years now. I wish you the best and I really recommend learning about ocd and the types and etc. Cause that helped me a lot understanding why I do things, and helped me realize what I can be doing to help myself besides therapy ofc. I hope you stay strong and remember it’s okay to have bad days, where you just can’t ignore something. That anxiety is not easy to deal with. Just stay strong and keep up w the therapy :]

This is what people really don't understand about OCD. Also, how the compulsions can take on a different form and come out of nowhere. My earliest memories of having OCD are when I was only six years old. Throughout the years, the compulsions have taken on different forms for me, like excessive hand washing and cleaning my electronics (not like cleaning how you're supposed to clean them, but cleaning them with household cleaners). The rational mind knew this would ruin them, but the compulsion was so overwhelming that I did it anyway. If I ruined something, like a phone or tablet, I would feel so much regret afterwards. But then I'd do it again. Then last year, out of nowhere my OCD took on a strange new form. I became terrified that I would hit someone with my car and not know it. So I would get back in my car and drive for hours checking the routes I took. It was a waste of gas and time and everytime I would feel stupid and regret it after the initial relief period of having done the compulsion. But then I'd just do it again the next day...it's hard to explain to anyone. You really don't want to do it, but the compulsion overpowers your mind.

Definitely relatable. In terms of the excessive cleaning and sanitizing, I feel like Covid started making me even crazier about it, since it suddenly became acceptable...though most people still are not wiping down their groceries besides me...

I am going to share your story with him and just hope and pray that he will see that he can still have a life while coping with his OCD with the support of those who love him and therapy and other coping strategies!!😭😭😭

Im not diagnosed with ocd. But i do think about all the germs. When im cleaning i feel really dirty as i feel contaminated with all the dirty things im engaging with. For example when i hoover the front door matt i have pick it up and i immediately feel my hands are infected with germs. Bins, mop bucket, hoover and sink are the things i feel are most contaminated. Its stressful as i need to change into clean clothes afterwards then i feel better. But then after that i look at things and think oh my tv isn't straight then i cant enjoy any gaming then. Because i still live with my parents i get stressed out when they put something dirty on the side then i have to remember that. My slippers feel dirty and was thinking i need a cleaner pair but i know that would make my symptoms worse so i dont bother
