I love this hymn. I learned this hymn as a small child in a Pentecostal church in Parma, Idaho. Praise God. We have a new name written down in heaven. In glory.

I'm not legalistic about musical styles...but when I compare this to contemporary church music...these old hymns are often superior. Why? The old hymns have a theological impetus. Many worship songs today run off emotion without foundation. It's fluff designed to make you feel positive. Songs like this convey emotion based on truth known both objectively through the Word and personally through the work of the Spirit.

Love this old song written over 100 years ago but still such a message. The old songs had something to say. I was baptized in the Holy Ghost while our congregation sang this song in a Sunday night service. I have never heard it one time when it did not touch my spirit with blessings and encouragement.

I LOVE the old hymns SOOO MUCH!!! They were written in times of TRUE turmoil, heartache and trials. The writers actually FELT and KNEW what suffering was, so they displayed their gratitude, praise and worship from an honest place...the depths of their HEARTS. There is MEANING in the lyrics. THAT'S why we FEEL "something" each time we hear these old hymns. Unlike much of today's music, which is written just to gain notoriety, and not from heartfelt experience. I PRAISE GOD that my name is written down in Glory! THAT IS SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE INDEED!!!

I love the old Hymns. I love contemporary Christian music too. There are some artists out there today that God has His hand on no doubt. All Christian songs were at some point contemporary. It does seem the old hymns had more content and spiritual depth than SOME of today’s 7/11 music. You know... seven verses and 11 words.
I agree. I love a handful of newer songs too. But to be honest, these old hymns give a beautifully clear message. They actually make me feel better than a lot of these new songs.
