  • “The Cultural and Artistic Importance of the 19th and Early 20th Century French, Scottish and English Stained Glass Windows of the Ecclesiastical District National Historic Site“
By: PHD Candidate - Megan Donghue Standford, York University, Toronto
In association with the other Churches in the District, St. Andrew’s Church will be hosting a public (free) talk by York University’s PhD candidate, Megan Donoghue-Stanford, about the cultural and artistic importance of the stained glass windows of the historic Churches of the St. John’s Ecclesiastical District National Historic Site of Canada.
These windows were designed by some of the most important English, Scottish, Irish and French stained glass firms of the day, including Kempe, Ballantine, Lavers Barraud and Westlake, Earley, Warrington, and Lévêque.
The work of the artists can also be found in some of Europe’s finest historic buildings including Westminster Abbey and the House of Lords in London, St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, Edinburgh Castle, St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, Church of St. Columba, County Clare, Ennis and Chapelle Saint Joseph de Cluny in France.
