    Just bought a used car and check engine lite went on. It was one of the codes you mentioned and sure enough, the gas cap clicked but didn't tighten. Bought new one, problem solved! Thank you Sir!

    this is EXACTLY why my light came on ...also a strange little icon came on as well on the dash panel of my 2019 Challenger SXT. thank you for letting me know I have to drive it quite a ways before the light goes off!

      If no one mentioned you can unhook your negative battery cable a few seconds and that will turn off the engine light.

      Yep. When my oil gets down a bit engine light comes on. I take battery cable off and then back on. Safety feature but annoying if you have older car using oil.

    Not always…but sometimes. Yes it’s the first thing to eliminate but keep in mind the EVAP system is a bit more complex than just the gas cap.

    Thank you for posting this. My light just came on, went to Auto Zone to do a ready out and P0456 code came up. I'm going to run downstairs and check this right now. I may have been in a rush after my last fill up, because I don't remember clicking the cap down. I hope that's all that is. Either way THANK YOU for this! 🙏🏾

    Thank you! I had this issue with my Lexus RX 300. Bought a new gas cap & it still triggered the check engine light & the codes you mentioned. I’m going to lube the cap & wipe the residue on opening to the tank like you mentioned. I hope that works.

      If the gas cap is the problem the check engine light will usually turn off by itself after driving 0 to 100 miles.

    Hi Liberty, I have a 2011 Toyota Prius Hybrid that won't stay running. There is a DTC P3190. Check Hybrid System appears on the screen. What kind of problem causes this?

    Well, I just got a P0441 code on my 2013 Camry! Cleaned the gas cap and filler neck with some WD 40. The WD 40 should lube the gasket inside the cap. I have never thought of cleaning the cap, neck or gasket. I cleared the code with my scanner, let see how she goes! Thank you for the tip! I know gas caps are cheep, but so am I! I am so cheep, I look over the top of my glasses so i wont wear them out!!!

      So any update on your engine light on ?mine show up Code of P0441 but it's says purge valve took to the mechanic he replaces new gas cap it disappeared after 1 week it come on again do you have any idea ??thanks

    Ok so the “service engine soon” light should go off after about 100 miles, I thought it was going to go off immediately. You eases my mind a bit. My gas crap was broken but still clicking, the light came on and I went to autozone for the code and it was p0440

    Thank you Paul, but I used petrolium jelly and not teflon. I was afraid it would clog a fuel injector. So far the problem hasn't come back.

I'm having the same problem I just bought this Chrysler Sebring 2005 I put in gas within hours of buying it and then I turned on my car and boom my engine light popped up I got freaked out so I turned to this video I tightened it up so I'm hoping that my engine light will disappear I was about to cry I was like I did not just buy this car for $2,800 and having might like to pop up like that like seriously dude 😩 but here's to hoping that the engine light disappears I'm hoping it does the same to you. And also is your light still on?

    What if replacing the gas cap doesn't fix the "gas cap loose' error?

      Then you have to be checking more of the evap system. It goes from the back all the way to the front. Could be a crack in a hose, a crack in the gas tank itself, an actuator that sticky, etc.

    I went to get my oil changed and the check engine light has been on. 🤔 Hmmm I checked my gas cap and sure enough the rubber ring is missing. I did notice a few days ago it didn't make that clicking sound. There's no way I'm going back to ask someone to help me. I will take care of this myself. I wonder if this was a lame attempt to get me back in the shop? I watch too many crime channels lol 😂 Thanks

    Need some help. When I tighten my gas cap and hear the "click", my gas cap does not stay close/lock. It gets loosened right away. I bought a new gas cap and it does not stay locked. Does anyone know why this happens?

      Is it an OEM gas cap for your specific year, make and model vehicle? If it’s not then that could be the problem.

      @@proclaimliberty2000 It's the original gas cap. It became loose recently and my engine lights came on. My mechanic told me the gas cap might be bad. Bought a new one and same thing, I can't keep the gas cap on tight after clicking sound.

    I followed this and got great results, but my check engine light still comes back on after about a week of driving. What's so strange is that it only comes back on when the tank is less than 1/4 full. 😳

      @@ms.vicious1872 If after driving it over 100 miles the check engine light still will not turn off, then take it to an auto parts store and have them check it with a diagnostic scanner which they will perform for free. This will give some clues as to the problem.

      @@ms.vicious1872 Don’t sweat this. The car will still run fine. It still might turn off if you purchase an OEM gas cap. The AC Delco may not work.
