Before I go any further in this video let me just say that the conversation about carnies, and ending it off with the Dumb And Dumber line "so you're saying there's a chance" is one of my new favorite things in the world.
I would love to see a sequel to this event in which the Grandmaster brings them all together again and is monologueing and there's a literal "dun, dun, dun!" And then the next page is like Spidey playing ring toss with Wolverine, and like Deadpool's riding the bumper cars with Cap and Punisher, etc. And at the end of the day Grandmaster seems really happy and asks if they all had fun, and when they say yes he says "Good. Because tomorrow we start the death matches!"

Fuckboi Studios Boomer, it's okay. I know that you want them to only be dreams, but people get these things. Nowadays, though, there is plenty of medication and professionals who deal with these "problems". You'll get the help that you need. I'm sure of it. Just, don't sit anywhere without at least two layers of clothing between you and the surface.
Here's an idea for making a Contest of Champions like story that could possibly work: It's for charity. Someone set up a tournament between superheroes, where proceeds from he ticket sales go to the charity of the winner's choice. And maybe having there be some evil pot or something in the background so it isn't just superhero fight scenes, but you do you guys think?
That's a great idea. Maybe make Arcade the villain. Make him have a weird Murderworld scheme plan against the heroes.

Yeah CoC was very weak but man, when i was 8 years old and we saw this, our minds were blown at the sheer concept.
Funny thing about Shamrock...I think Scott Lobdell's first story for Marvel was a Shamrock story in an issue of Marvel Comics Presents. In an interview online, he credits pitching such an obscure character made editorial approval easy on the overworked editor of the bi-monthly title and got him his foot in the door. Funny.

As I recall Contest Of Champions was originally going to coincide with the 1980 Olympics in Russia but was changed when the USA decided to not participate. That's why you had all the mostly forgettable non USA heroes created. The series was held up and redone.

So, Secret Wars with every single hero? :D I somehow forget about this event!!
Cool show, but there was a contest of the dead in a giant sized Avengers. Ware Grand Master had tricked death. And with the collectors help. Captured death. And set a new contest. And had the Legan of dead. Fight the Avengers. Till only Hawkeye and Cap were left. Till Hawk eye tricks the Grand master into a shell game and save the day. Turns out he cheated. But, death frees them and puts all the Avengers back to life. Though the Green Goblin was one of the dead that the Avenger Moon Night fought. Cap fought Baron Blood. Thor fought the Executioner. So it was in the 80s, but after the Simons run on Thor. Thor had the Beard and armor in the fight. Well the beard not the armor yet so he was cursed by Hela, but hadn't fought the Midgard Serpent yet. So in the middle of the Simons run. Surfer was in it too and he Korvek.
I actually went to Wild West City as a kid, it's where I ended up buying myself one of those good old-fashioned plastic cowboy katanas.

Well actually (to be that guy) depending on which half of Ireland Shamrock is from she'd have different relations with Britain as Southern is Ireland, Northern is still subject to British rule sort of. That' why the IRA is still around cause the north isn't "free" which seeing an IRA based superhero would be cool. I'm studying Irish history. I'd love to see an updated Shamrock

Personally I enjoyed this book. True it was kinda pointless in the grand scheme of things but still a fun read. Much better than the DD/Deadpool fight in CoC 2.

For off the rack, you guys should do 'True Believers: Deadpool #1'. It reprints New Mutants #98 and is $1 U.S. That way it's topical since the Deadpool movie comes out in February and this issue is his first appearance. Plus, the story is ridiculous and the art is pretty bad (no body has eyes)!

sorry, guys, but sal is wrong. both vanguard and talisman were pretty existing characters before contest of champions. Vanguard was in the Soviet super soldiers, who appeared in avengers and captain America, and talisman was a member of alpha flight, introduced in x men. i love the show, but sometimes sal's knowledge isn't quite that deep.
+aaron stark You're half right, Vanguard was created for Iron Man. But Talisman was, in fact, created in Contest of Champions.
+ComicPOP! are you sure? because the character shaman was a member of alpha flight in their first appearance, and talisman is his daughter, who started in beta flight, the training program. if they started her in CoC, then at least it is a good example of a character being used elsewhere. and sorry for the multiple posts. my phone hates mythumbs.

Talisman from Contest of Champions is a guy. We say there's a female version, but the Talisman in CoC is a dude created for the event. We even talk about why that's weird, when they already had a female Talisman.
