      That’s why I’m always hesitant to believe these pressures and wind speed of these typhoons . Is the ocean just that much warmer and more conducive for major 190 mph storms because it rarely happens in the Atlantic, but it seems like the pacific has tons of them consistently

    Any thoughts on Cyclone Kamisy that struck Madagascar in April 1984? If I remember correctly, it was ranked as a Saffir-Simpson Category 3, 100 knots, by the JTWC but I’ve heard some thoughts that it probably reached Category 5 status, and from the satellite images I’ve seen of it it looked very powerful.

    • @SirGregoireGooch
      @SirGregoireGooch Před 7 měsíci

      @StevenWxAny updates on your analysis of Kamisy? I believe it was about 160-170 MPH at its peak east of northern Madagascar based on satellite imagery.

    Honorinina would in all probability be considered a “Very Intense Tropical Cyclone” if it occurred today. It was similar to Geralda in 1994 and Gafilo in 2004. I believe the name is pronounced as “Honorine” with the “-ina” suffix being silent (based on my basic knowledge of Malagasy phonetics).

    That siam cyclone blew my mind. Always wondered if its possible that a cyclone hits Thailand, in theory yes because that only path is little more than 5 degrees north above the Equator. Still amazing what new stuff we discover and that long time ago ..there were also strong storms before 500 years , although not as often as now :(

      @@kylerrabaya5197 The overall track of Typhoon Gay differs a lot from the Siam cyclone. The only similarity is where it hit in Thailand. The Siam Cyclone crossed the northern Philippines and the moved SW, then moved NW and hit the Northern part of the Bay of Bengal. Gay moved west and then continued West into the Southern part of India
