I wonder how VAR would've dealt with this situation. Would they have rescinded the red card because of the offside, or does the offside only matter if a goal was scored?
As a Uruguayan I now can answer to the calls of unfair goal ... but it went so fast I had not spotted it either. Very hard call to make. Can't blame the referee on this one.
Referee was perfectly positioned before, with the first header , with two Ghanaians clearly offside, twice. He was also who called foul when fucile was dramatically away like for about two meters from the Ghanaian who dived in front of him. There was an obvious intention to kick Uruguay out of the worldcup.
yep the video is right. to clarify: the first line is the 2nd to last defender (near the top) and the second line is the furthest non-arm body part (in this case the foot) of the offsides attacker. but like you said hard call to spot
This is not offside. The keeper touched the ball last and the angle is so close that even if the striker touched it, VAR would give the goal because he's on side regardless. Suarez kept him onside
The video shows it is a clear offside. Pause it at 0:05. You can see that #10 is closer to goal than Suarez (2nd last defender) is, and it is at the moment the offensive player plays the ball to him. It is IRRELEVANT if ball is touched by defense.
From FIFA's Law11: The Offside. Please pay attention to the very last part of the rule, which applies to the Uruguayan goalkeeper in the video above: "A player in an offside position receiving the ball from an opponent who deliberately plays the ball, including by deliberate handball, is not considered to have gained an advantage, unless it was a deliberate save by any opponent. "
Kinda levels out the hand ball, so I can't really bitch about that now

Offside would have overruled. Red cards only stand if it was a dangerous tackle or other things like that
The red card obviously would have been deleted since it was given for annalihating a goal occasion but if there is offside no goal occasion
Not only this, but Uruguay was robbed by a clear penalty in the first half of extra time.

The ball did not touch Ghana player n°5, so the offside is even more obvious

Exactly, Africans crying as usual turns out they were the ones to blame

Suarez was the last men there, check out the offside rule, if the GK move forward
