In Persona 3 The movie #4: Winter of Rebirth, maybe stabbin' Nyx Avatar in the forehead was like Ocarina of Time Link stabbin' Ganon in the head. It's just done differently. The main character stabbin' the giant's forehead, it's like the final blow to the giant boar in Ocarina of Time 3D, but more like the final blow in The Wind Waker. That ring a bell? Havin' the sword in the left hand, it's like most Links in The Legend of Zelda series. It's like the way the final blow was executed in The Wind Waker, too. Nyx Avatar had a giant sword. In the movie, it's got the blade with the hexagonal cross-section, like the Master Sword.

Note that every quote is a "lesson" on the UPRIGHT meaning of the arcana, but what Nyx does is channel the powers of the shadows of that arcana - which represent the REVERSE meaning.
This is better seen in the movie, though.
...however, there is one exception to this, because Nyx's quote on Death is equal parts Upright and Reversed. The Death Arcana doesn't necessarily mean literal death, the way Nyx talks about it, but instead, change. Death is a card that signals great, sweeping changes in one's life and/or soul - essentially, a kind of "death" of what things used to be. In terms of fight/narrative mechanics, Nyx's arcana is Death, and they can be considered the "reversed" Death - where "Upright" Death signals change and the willingness to move on in spite of it, as well as (in this setting) acceptance of the reality of death but not letting it be the end-all be-all of your existence, the "Reversed" death is the rejection of change - the desire to simply end as you are, with no need to progress into the future - because you're all gonna die, so what's the point?
This is shown by how Nyx doesn't progress past Death, in terms of their Phases. Not only is the arcana-switching a sort of countdown to Nyx's true descent, but the fact that it stops at Death shows that Nyx can't conceive of anything beyond Death - but anyone who's played the game knows there's still Temperance, The Devil, The Star, The Sun, etc. Hell, Judgement is a mandatory Social Link, and that's way after Death in the "sequence" of the arcana.
Yes, Death is an undeniable fact of life. But there's more to life than just the fact that we're going to die.

It's almost mocking lmao, "beyond the beaten path lies the absolute end." into "It is the path of your choosing." Just highlighting the futility of their resistance.
The terror the first line filled me with (just played it last summer for the first time). Mass Effeft's Sovereign was the only other time fighting genuinely felt pointless.

I like how in the movie they incorporated the different full moon bosses in the fight and how for each Arcana phase Makoto uses a persona of that Arcana to fight Nyx (I think the ultimate persona of each one too). Really clever imo.

José Sousa probably the psp couldn’t handle the animation? I mean I remember fps drops on the ps2 version happening in my game and the psp is a handheld so it should be even less powerful to handle the animations

There's still something kinda chilling about Nyx's speech before the Death arcana. Throughout the whole fight, Nyx is expressing the joys of living, being strong enough to make it through life, etc. And yet none of it matters at the end. The hardships endured and achievements made means nothing in the face of Death. It's neither positive nor negative in the way Nyx states it, just a matter of fact that Death comes for all.
I get the feeling these 'Arcana' things are important.

This quotes hit harder and harder and you appreciate them as you grow older and experience multiple failures and disappoints, meeting and knowing a lot of people and encountering unexpected things in your life such as me collapsing in work . I played this game at 15 years old for the first time and several times in between and now I'm waiting for the remake and play it at age 31. Nyx is one of the most haunting bosses I've ever encountered.

Huh. I know this isn't the focal point of the video, but I noticed that the original Japanese version of the game plays a different version of Battle for Everyone's Souls. The electric guitar is a little quieter and more muddled than in all later iterations, and the iconic piano accompaniment early on was apparently *all* vocal, originally.
I definitely prefer the newer versions of the track, myself. Glad Meguro changed it.

Something I've never seen anybody talk about is how the Achievement/Trophy for defeating Nyx in the P3P re-release echoes its most damning line.
Nyx: "You cannot avoid death. To live is to die; they are one and the same..."
Achievement: "To live is to oppose death -- defeat Nyx"
It feels so perfectly in line with Persona 3. To live is to die; as soon as you are born, the one constant of your existence is that you will eventually die.
But also, to live is to oppose death; living is doing your best with what you are given, to make the world a better place as long as you can while you live here on it, so that when your time comes you can be happy with what you did with your life.
It's almost a beautiful paradox. To live is to die, but to live is also to oppose death.

you know what ? Nyx's avatar quote is a million times better than those Fate/GO 's characters and boss when they perform their skill , they try to sound smart but damn it's fucking cringe to hear those bullshit line
I recommend to those who haven't seen it to also watch Persona 3: Weird Masquerade. It isn't fully subbed in English, but the Nyx performance for both protagonists was really nicely done with the limitations they had. It's honestly one of my favorite versions of the fight.

Persona evolving naturally through the story needs to be brought back. If anything the third tier persona should be a reward for completing their link
I played this game in Easy though I have already played it before, I simply wanted to play for the story. However, I was foolish to fight Nyx with only 2 Chewing Souls and those does not help at all. And all my teamates (Akihiko, Mitsuru, and Yukari) was big on use of SP, so I was literally screwed. On the last arcana, Death, there I was hoping that I would die and be saved by the given ten Plume of Dusk. By dying and getting saved by it, restores all your party's HP as well as SP, if I only had carried SP healing items, then maybe I wouldn't fight Nyx for 30 minutes. 😂😂
Despite the prettier visuals, I just feel this one absolutely stomps all over the Reload version of the fight.
The Nyx boss fight is amazing. It doesn't feel like enemies fighting to the death at all. Its more like a teacher and the students. It feels like Nyx doesn't even want to be doing what it's doing but has to anyway.
Damn after playing every persona i still believe that Nyx is the final boss (˘･_･˘)

What bothers me most is that, for the P3 Animation, is the use of Mother Harlot (since Scathach feasibly solos both attacks). Coulda utilized light banter (with Makoto knowing that his former friend is his enemy) over a literal throw-away persona not even needed.
The point was that for every Arcana Nyx used Makoto countered it with that Arcana's Last/Ultimate Persona.
But also you're right, just like in P4 Animation it doesn't make sense gameplay wise XD.
And banter? It wouldn't have worked anyway since Erebus' arrival IS inevitable.

How I done this fight: Max out protagonist’s level and have Messiah, Helel, and Satan. Have Akihiko do debuffs and Aigis do buffs. Have Yukari do whatever unless wind and/or pierce attacks don’t work. Equip Messiah and spam God’s hand for all Arcana phases besides death. Then switch to helel or satan and finish it off with armageddon. You saved yourself both time and patience.

Sometimes I hear that little bit of Ryoji's voice (or sometimes my brain confuses it for Yosuke Persona 4's voice) and it throws me off.
LOL The English voice makes me think of the FFT colab raid on XIV, with Argath "You will be judged" lol. The Japanese voice, makes me think of the people of Amaurot lol.
