"Everyday in your indigo eyes I watch the sunset but I don't see it rise Moonlight and stars in your strawberry wine You'd take the world but you won't take the time >" It's about a girl always looking for happiness, but never being patient enough to find it. She can't see the forest for all the trees...
I am willing to bet that the vast majority of the listening public have never heard this full version and it is a crime! The radio versions do not include this section and it really changes the song.
This song was originally a darker story about a drug dealer but the lyrics were changed. The Ozarks first three albums are criminally underated, they had three different vocalists in the band at the same time and they were all multi instrumentalists.
This song is about a woman who is in pursuit of happiness but never gives anything a long enough time to make her happy. She gets bored too easily she's flighty, or indifferent. This was written by band members Steve Cash and Larry Lee. Great song by a great group this song is from the album "it'll shine when it shines".
From the lyric "Every day in your indigo eyes"..... that was part was never played on the radio. The shorter the song the better for radio airplay. I was around 30 years old (1997) before hearing the longer version.
"Moonlight and stars and your strawberry wine, you'd take the world but you won't take the time". The extra lyrics in the album version make the song so much better. Thank you for the reaction!
This song is literally lightning in a bottle. This was their biggest hit and received the most radio play, they never could duplicate the success of this song.
She’s trying to find happiness dishonestly, so she’ll never find it. Love requires lowering your defenses. You can’t keep a part of yourself hidden. I remember this song very well. They played it all summer when I was 10 years old.
Check out this hidden gem - radio broadcast from 1970's - it has Jackie Blue, and many other hits at the time, including commercials and all ⬇️⬇️⬇️ czcams.com/video/x0vLeUjikYI/video.html
Cheryl Reichart It's actually about a drug dealer that the drummer Larry Lee knew. 'Jackie Blue', was used as a metaphor, I guess to conceal his identity.
Have a sorority sister who loved this song so we heard it a lot, it is a fun song to dance to and go out to a bar and hear so just brings up good memories now. Ozark was a good band back in the day. She's always trying to get something she can't find or want, it's like she's flighty and doesn't know what she wants and doesn't recognize it when she sees it. Most everything is in her mind and can't be manifested into her getting it. She sabotages herself before she can get anything.
I've always loved this song. It just reminds me of someone who's never satisfied with life because they're afraid to really try, out of fear of getting hurt. Great reaction as always Jamel!
Unique song. The verse is actually the hook and the B section just takes it to such a cool place. Jackie Blue is never satisfied. She only wants what she cant have.
Hey Jamel. Thank you for taking the time to do a few music reactions. I absolutely love this song. One of my all-time favorites from my childhood, up until this day. It's one of those songs I can never get tired of. Thanks, again. Peace out! ☮️
The story I've heard is that the band wrote the song about their dope dealer, and then changed the lyrics to make it sound like a love song in order to get airplay. The lead singer on this track is drummer Larry Lee, who (as you can hear) has a high voice - the top comment I've seen on CZcams videos of this song (especially the live 1976 version) is "I thought it was a chick singing!" Actually, if you watch the live version, Larry's drum kit has a sign on it that says "Cannabis", and during the jam section at the end, he's intently watching his drumstick hitting the ride cymbal over and over to the point that it appears to be tripping him out.....
This is another song bringing me back to listening to music on my pocket transistor radio...and the radio was AM only...and the AM radio band was full of music stations.
I worked with a girl named Jackie back when this song was released. We would sing it every time she walked into the building. She hated this song because of that. LOL!
I had a friend who was her own worst enemy. Every time she was worked up and you got the story as to what happen. She started something on one path and over thought it and setup something else to derail it.
Jackie Blue is about a young man drug dealer in 1970s rural Missouri, and sung to by Larry Lee (drummer), as a woman character, Jackie Blue, with a similar soul, in the song. OMD have lots of great music...Jackie Blue....If I Only Knew....Within Without....Thin Ice....Better Days....If You Wanna Get To Heaven....You Know Like I Know....Kansas You Fooler....Noah....Givin It All To the Wind....Take You Tonight....It's How You Think....Tidal Wave....Homemade Wine....Following the Way That I Feel...Southern Cross...Spaceship Orion...Roscoe's Rule...What's Happened Along In My Life...(more)
This song was recorded in 1974. It was released as a single February 1975, even though the album it's on was released October 1, 1974. The B-side of the 45 record single is Better Days
I've been requesting OMD for two years now, so glad you are getting to them, they are the best unknown band in the US! That said, try Look Away, Homemade Wine, Walking Down the Road, Fly Away Home, Noah, EE Lawson, Fools Gold etc. I grew up near these guys and have been to like 5 of their concerts, great, great group
As great as this song is- and it IS great- it became an albatross for the Daredevils. They were primarily a country-rock band, in the vein of "If You Want to Get to Heaven", but the record label wanted more "Jackie Blues". Their follow up album "The Car Over the Lake Album" was great in it's own right, but signaled the decline of the Daredevils' popularity, because they stuck to their guns. Even so, music critics skewered them, claiming they were trying to replicate the sound of Jackie. So many great bands from that era suffered a similar fate as record label executives tried to wring commercial success out of bands vs. focusing on what drew them to the bands in the first place.
Jackie Blue was a MALE drug dealer. The band hung around with him when they were working in Wales. Check out It Couldn't Be Better (Than it is Right Now). Love them Daredevils! Many thanks.
I was in High school when this came out. My friend had a car at 16 and was working after school so they had money to buy the music and gas to run us around town. We would drive country roads so we could play it loud. Fall was best because the cool air really made the music crisp.
I have been listening to the Ozark Mountain Daredevils album "It'll Shines When It Shines" since I was a wee lad. This song was more of a rocker but I would describe the rest of the album as Western music. My favorite songs are "Kansas You Fooler" and "What's Happened Along in My Life".
That guitar is haunting and catchy. I'd never heard of this band before, now my interest is piqued. Continuing to keep great music alive. Very few can spread that gospel like our man Jamel.
This one is so different from the Daredevils "get to heaven" that it was years before I found out they played it. As God is my witness, I honestly thought a woman was singing the lyrics. A few years ago I saw them in a video. Something new learned.
Can't go wrong with Ozark Mountain Daredevils.... Someone else suggested Black Oak Arkansas.... If you check them out look at the California Jam 1974 and BOA doing Dixie then check out Jim Dandy doing a cover of Desperado
For what it's worth, my high school German teacher back in 1976 was personal friends with the band. When we were talking about this song, she told me the band told her that the song is about a girl, Jackie, who is strung out on heroin.
I think you will like the music from The Brothers Johnson. Listen to their songs, "I'll Be Good to You" and "Get the Funk Outta' Ma Face". They were a band of the late 70's early 80's.
Our high school biology teacher played in various bands. Came in to class one day to a hi-fi and huge speakers up on the tables. This is the song he played for us that day. It was cool to have a teacher that listened to the same music we did. This was about 1976. He played in several different bands his whole life from his own school days until just before he passed.
It’s what they call “going through the motions.” Not really committing to anything or anyone and wondering why things don’t work out then wants sympathy.
Jamel you have such a big soul and spirit. I suggest you take a deep dive yon the Daredevils and check out these songs Lowlands, Spaceship Orion, Look Away, It’s How You Think, it’ll Shine When It Shines and for fun Arroyo
She sounds like a taker, not a giver. Never satisfied, never happy, never enough. She used people like stepping stones to get to wherever, whatever or whoever was the next, better thing, at least in her mind. I do with agree with what someone else wrote. She may have lived her life in fear - fear of abandonment from letting people get close; or, in fear of failure from giving her all to accomplish something, anything..
Larry Lee singing and drumming. One of my favorite voices. There are even better songs by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Quilt album does not have a bad song.
How did I miss these? I’m a huge Daredevils fan, having grown up seeing them locally. I’m just not getting your stuff lately even though I’ve subscribed to your channel. You’d think any thing posted with Daredevil’s songs would pop into my feed.
Great that you are reacting to some Ozark.. I know I had requested over a year ago.. Their first 3 albums are chock full of excellent tunes.. "Standing On the Rock", "Beauty In the River", "E.E. Lawson", and "Country Girl" are all great. Thanks.

"Everyday in your indigo eyes

Moonlight and stars in your strawberry wine
You'd take the world but you won't take the time >" It's about a girl always looking for happiness, but never being patient enough to find it. She can't see the forest for all the trees...
Such a good verse. It's a shame that's the one that gets omitted in the short version of the song.
I am willing to bet that the vast majority of the listening public have never heard this full version and it is a crime! The radio versions do not include this section and it really changes the song.
Takes me back to my early teen years when everyone I loved was still alive.
This song was originally a darker story about a drug dealer but the lyrics were changed. The Ozarks first three albums are criminally underated, they had three different vocalists in the band at the same time and they were all multi instrumentalists.
I agree. They were / are.
[ John and Mike still around].
📻🙂
Yes, the song was originally about a male and their record company wanted the song to be about a female so the lyrics were changed.
I always thought it was about Jacqueline (Kennedy) Onassis
The drummer sang this one! Such a good concert too! 😍
I sing and play drums! Did not know this, thanks!
Yep, Larry Lee. Beautiful voice.

I played this song over and over when it came out. I was 8 in 1975. Still a great track.
They were and still are great live. They have a huge and loyal fan base.
She’s trying to find happiness dishonestly, so she’ll never find it. Love requires lowering your defenses. You can’t keep a part of yourself hidden. I remember this song very well. They played it all summer when I was 10 years old.
This and Angie Baby by Helen Reddy are always good back to back.
Angie Baby absolutely!!!
I was only ten years old. This song sounds as incredible now as it did back then. I just always thought she was very unhappy.

Old man here. I was 12 ;-)

I almost had forgotten how great this song was, I never thought she was happy just going through her life with little satisfaction 💔
This song was stuck in my head since I was 7 years old and I still listen to it great music 🎶 and song lyrics
Unique song. The verse is actually the hook and the B section just takes it to such a cool place.
Jackie Blue is never satisfied. She only wants what she cant have.

Yes! Thank you so much again Jamel! And you were pretty spot on with your analogy-🙂💜✨
I love the way you break it down ❤ this is my generation ✌️
Vintage song that personifies that era! Darker song but a lot of melody with superior vocals and instrumental brushstrokes.
Omg I always loved this song. I was 4 years old when it came out! Thank you for reacting to this masterpiece!!❤❤ I just love your reaction ❤❤❤

Ozark Mountain Daredevils we’re big. They had a number of songs on the radio.
Great t see this reaction.

Back in the saddle!! Happy to see more reaction videos from you Jamel!!
One of the first singles I bought when I was in elementary school! I still have it.
A big hit in its day. I remember my dad singing along to this song on the radio as we drove around in our monstrous 70s car.
kept great music alive jamal you are a master at this
This is a classic Southern Rock song that is being played here 😁👌💯
This is one of those songs that has a very specific reference point in my youth. Always liked it a lot.
This song was recorded in 1974. It was released as a single February 1975, even though the album it's on was released October 1, 1974.
The B-side of the 45 record single is Better Days
Spaceship Orion is another great song from them

Roger that. They started here in my hometown and still do shows here once in a blue moon. I think the last one was at the Gillioz downtown.
They’ve been playing a ton this year, even outside of the home stomping grounds and yes Gillioz shows are something special!
Good song. I have always liked this one 👍

1975 am radio all day song rock 40 years later still bump this on my phone
Watching reaction videos you make is like hanging out with one of your best friends. Thank you, friend.

Steve Cash & Larry Lee were two of the greatest singer/songwriters of the 70’s

Southern Rock sound, and some straight-up “Hillbilly “ music. ‘Chicken Train’ ,
featuring an Ozark Mouth Bow.
📻😁
I always thought "Jackie" was living in her own world, pretending to be something she's not...
Glad to see you do this tune! One of my favorite bands from my teen years. Next you should do "Chicken Train".
Love that 70’s guitar sound
Just love this song
Man you are playing all the right songs ! good job 👏
That guitar is haunting and catchy. I'd never heard of this band before, now my interest is piqued. Continuing to keep great music alive. Very few can spread that gospel like our man Jamel.
Hillbilly rock n roll
EE Lawson & chicken train are a couple of good songs from them among a lot more
Chicken Train 🤣❗️
Totally silly but fun song.

ahhh... reminds me of FM radio- when tunes like this were so common I thought it was another ELO song, tunes for the head.
Ya. I love the lyrics.
For what it's worth, my high school German teacher back in 1976 was personal friends with the band. When we were talking about this song, she told me the band told her that the song is about a girl, Jackie, who is strung out on heroin.

I always appreciate your music reactions!
Music is such a treat with you.
These guys are from around Springfield, MO. A couple members are on local talk radio here.
Classic song!
Keep great music alive!

"Spaceship Orion" PLEEEAASE. I love OMD!!!
This is an all time JAM
Whatever happened to the days when artists could be "seasoned" and still get a chance? They often make the best music...
Jamel you have such a big soul and spirit. I suggest you take a deep dive yon the Daredevils and check out these songs Lowlands, Spaceship Orion, Look Away, It’s How You Think, it’ll Shine When It Shines and for fun Arroyo
Always like this song. Smashing Pumpkins did a cover of it as well.
😳
I had no idea!
I will check it out
Good to know. Just listened to SP new track, Beguiled. Really excellent song and video by Billy and the boys.
She sounds like a taker, not a giver. Never satisfied, never happy, never enough. Loveee this SONG 🎵 👌
They called themselves this name because back in the day, in the Ozarks, it was dangerous to leave your hair grow long and look different
Slow and mellow.....love it!
Chicken Train used an instrument that had been around for a long time. But I can't remember what it was.
Wonderful nostalgia.
Larry Lee singing and drumming. One of my favorite voices. There are even better songs by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. Quilt album does not have a bad song.
There are a few songs that take me back to the 70s... this and Fleetwood Mac's Dreams are at the top of that list...
Such a great track and so much more a very typical-sounding 70's pop rock song than their Southern-fried rock sound.
Great band. Check out "Beauty in the River" from the first album, The Quilt Album.
There is a video of them playing this song live, very nice, you should check it out. Thanks for the reaction.
First heard this song on That 70s Show
How did I miss these? I’m a huge Daredevils fan, having grown up seeing them locally. I’m just not getting your stuff lately even though I’ve subscribed to your channel. You’d think any thing posted with Daredevil’s songs would pop into my feed.
awesome to see you do music again
One of my faves!
These guys are from near Springfield Missouri...near where I grew up in the Arkansas
1974. I was 15 yup I am old lol
I was 13
I never get tired of this song!
Haven't heard this one in years. 💕
Always liked it very much. 😊
Oh wow, definitely have not heard this in a long while
Great that you are reacting to some Ozark.. I know I had requested over a year ago.. Their first 3 albums are chock full of excellent tunes.. "Standing On the Rock", "Beauty In the River", "E.E. Lawson", and "Country Girl" are all great. Thanks.
Still love this, I had forgotten this, thank you!
75 like a fine bottle of wine open it up after all this time and it's even better and sweeter than day it was made
Some good guitar work in the middle of this song.
The Kentucky Headhunters- The ghost of Hank Williams ( Off of the Rave On cd )
