To anyone considering watching, this one is a diamond in the rough. To the creator, thank you very much for sharing this articulate and concise analysis. Your exceptional work provides an astounding amount of insight into the processes occurring within the PS5 power supply, and switch mode power supplies in general, to anyone possessing only a basic understanding of the properties of the various individual components involved. And it does so within only a couple of hours. For me this was, both figuratively and literally, a game changer. Very much appreciated.
Infinite thanks for this analysis. This content is priceless. I've been studying SMPS the last month and you dropping this video is just amazing for me. As a tip for anyone watching, I realized it's much better to follow the video pausing to read everything and then play the video and stop reading. Otherwise, at least for me, it's much harder to follow what you say. I'm amazed that you'd share these great guides for free, what an amazing job. It's also funny how toltecmerc really nailed much of his reverse engineering, as pretty much all he says and does matches with this video. Thankfully now I'll start to understand more deeply what he was saying and what he was seeing, as for a newbye like me in electronics, it gets complicated.
Explained very well. Thank you very much. It's very well done and well explained, with a clear flowchart. I've just subscribed to the channel. Bravo!!!!
That really was a deep and clear dive into the power supply for sure. The list of tools is useful but I actually think many workshops don´t even have all of them, I have everything and more except an electronic load or discharge tweezer, I just use other methods for that. as a mention it is also important to note that you are not really safe when you have an isolation transformer, if you manage to touch phase to neutral within that circuit or even ground to live if your tranny has a center tapped isolated ground you can get a shock anyway. But it provides more safety to get a shock from the mains voltage supply to ground. But many trust it too much I think
Thank you for your nice feedback and extra information about the isolation transformer. Thats why we have to take all safety tips seriously and not assume that it is safe. Gr. Jim

Awesome video teaching people how the PS5 power supply works 👍 Definitely deserve more subscribers I just hit that subscribe button Keep the good videos coming
It was much better in the old days where you had simple linear transformer with a fuse and a capacitor, it requires master degree to understand smps circuitry
Excellent video. I have one PS5 psu that i am working on. the APFC moset and APFC diode tested ok. I have equally replace dap053t ic but PFC not working. I don't know what to do next.
Hi i would check if there is a PWM signal present dat drives the gate of the APCS mosfet, check with an oscilloscope if present then the problem could be on a different place in the circuit. Gr. Jim
Gr. Jim
Hi i don't really know but power supply has to be very stable for the microprocessors or else it will go in a reset state. 30ms seems to be too long. Gr. Jim
What an AMAZING explanation!!!! all thanks and love from a fellow hobbiest :> But i was wondering do i solder TEA2016AAT and it works automatically or is there some mods i have to do for it to work like the original ic ?
Hi, so you have a lower output voltage. There can be multiple causes. First check if the main filter capacitor has +- 390V. Check if PWM driver IC is working Check Optoisolator and the feedback loop Check the voltage reference diode Check the health of the main and secundary capacitors Gr. jim
@@fixmyappjim It's my pleasure to meet you, I've already saved the pdf that the video shows, if you can get the schematic for the PS3, Ps4, just post it, I'd appreciate it
Hi, i don't know you can get it from a donor board or some other power supply as long as the current draw of the wire is not to low for the power supply. Gr. Jim
Hi, this capacitor also filter out noise from the incoming power source. There are different filtering methods and layout of these capacitors but all has the same function to filter out noise and voltage spikes. Gr. jim
The best video repair of power supply PS5 in the world ! you is a Angel, please dont stop. Good Bless you. I big hug fron Brazil. DO you have instagram ?
This is 1st class tutorial/class/explanation i've seen. My PS5 is stuck at PS Logo and i get black screen after that. Could that be PSU issue since PS is getting more voltage after that phase? It turns on well. I can go to Safe Mode too. When i turn it on, i see PS logo and black screen following that. 30-60 seconds later, it turns off.
This could be anything. Overheating issue, bad NAND flash, SSD controller, Software corruption, bad power supply that fails under load, maybe reinstalling the firmware can help, a bad RAM memory. Beause the console does turn on and you see a picture all the standby and power on voltages are generated. Thank you for your reply. Gr. Jim

Hi, whats the Hold-Up time of PS5 PSU? can it handle 30ms power switch from AC power to battery backup without turning off/restart?
Hi i don't really know but power supply has to be very stable for the microprocessors or else it will go in a reset state. 30ms seems to be too long. Gr. Jim

Hi I would compare the pinout if possible but i think you could try it you have nothing to lose. Gr. Jim
You know what might be broken? Does my power supply output 8V?
Hi if you have 8V at the output i would check the adp chip that fails alot or else check feedback circuit fault can be in many places. Gr. Jim
HI. I'm watching your video. I disassembled the PS5 power supply and I find 8.8 V DC at the output. Could you give me some advice?

Check if PWM driver IC is working
Check Optoisolator and the feedback loop
