I usually let them soak overnight. You want to make sure that you remove the cloths before turning it back on, otherwise it will hit them when it turns on and can potentially scratch the head. Once they are removed you can just turn it back on and let it do its normal boot up cleanings, it may take one or two auto cleanings to get the ink flowing through again after soaking to get a good nozzle check.
