  • We told the folks at Temple Square that Doug Wright Show has "live from the Salt Lake Tabernacle" on his broadcast bucket list, and they not only gave him the go-ahead to host his show there, they gave him a personal, behind-the-scenes tour - complete with the opportunity to play the organ!

I am an organist and still taking lessons and now have been taking lessons every week from my 2nd instructor Blaine Gale for 43 and appreciate all the things that he has taught me. This is an amazing clip of the organ at the Conference Ctr and the SL tabernacle with the history behind pipes and also how it works all organists and music lovers should see this clip IT'S AWESOME and gets a thumbs up!

I got to sing in a choir in the tabernacle once as part of a multi-stake conference. (There were 3 Stakes when the meeting started and 5 Stakes by the end!) The organ was amazing! From the choir seats, you can totally tell what pipe each sound is coming from.

I have always loved this organ. Still prefer it over the Conference Center organ.

I think the Conference Center instrument suffers from inferior acoustics compared to the Tabernacle. Of course, any room suffers from inferior acoustics compared to the Tabernacle.

@@bobareebop I believe the Conference organ also has fewer ranks, but the ranks it does have are likely scaled larger.

32 foot pipes are known as "expensive drafts" and are a joy to any organist's heart,

ForHow nice to see Robert Poll in this video. Many years we worked together on the standard LDS church organ we supplied all over the world. A very skilled curator of the organs in SLC.

The organ looks like The Count’s Pipe Organ in “The Number of The Day” segments on Sesame Street. The pipe organ has 20 pipes and The Count plays on his organ to get to the number of the day. The odd number pipes have male voices and the even number pipes have female voices. If the number of the day is 0 then the organ disappears in a puff of smoke.

An exact duplicate of that console that's either built by Allan or Rodgers Organs that have taken sampled acoustic sounds from the Mormon Tabernacle conference center pipe organ console with the exact same dimensions and specifications would look great in my living room ☺️

If the Great Tabernacle Organist (Alexander Schreiner) was the king, then the Great Conference Center Organist (Richard Elliott) is the Prince. Mr. Elliott! Please do not retire until the Lord wants you to. You will be sorely missed.

When I began listening to The Choir, Richard Evans was the narrator, and Frank Asper was one of the organists, along with Alexander Schreiner. Probably back in the 1950's and 1960's. Lots of memories.
