- "Silent Night" (German: "Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht") is a popular Christmas carol, composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber to lyrics by Joseph Mohr in the small town of Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria. It was declared an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2011. The song was first recorded in 1905 and has remained a popular success, appearing in films and multiple successful recordings, as well as being quoted in other musical compositions.

Beautiful. I was dreading what was to come, due to the word ‘jazziest’ in the header, but delighted that there was nothing to justify that. While some of the harmonies weren’t Gruber’s, I doubt if he would have resented them.
Jazziest in use of special chilling harmonies. It even adds to peaceful atmosphere.
Among many other things, Primož is an expert on Jazz from Jango Reinhardt/Hot Club de Paris to Oscar Peterson to Dudley Moore. For the most part, it is not my cup-a-tea but I can hear the jazz harmonies .... the harmonies that "weren't Gruber's" ARE jazz harmonies. Thank you, Primož. And also to you and your family in Kranj. I have recently received some beautiful photos from there sent by Mateja. There is no snow here, of course, but we do have lots of Christmas lights. And we even have a volcano lighting up the night skies on the Big Island right now. 🙄🌋
